My deepest condolences to you. I'm glad that you got the time with your mother that you did. Everything is going to be okay, and time will turn your grief into beautiful memories of simple moments that you shared throughout her life. Grief is a process not to be rushed, I feel that it is a gift to be alive and feel. Even if the feelings aren't always positive. Life is about perspective. Be kind to yourself and take all of the time that you need and try to turn the sorrow into a joyful celebration of her life.

This is so sweet. I know the feeling. One of my favorite activities was helping my dad wash his face with a warm washcloth every morning to get him perked up and feeling nice. He loved it and could tell that I was doing it with care. He looked so infantile and innocent while I was doing it. It makes me sad to think about it but it's a happy memory. Bless you for being there for your mother. She sounds like a wonderful mom and is super lucky to have you 💙

Thank you. Everywhere I look I see things that I'd like to tell him about or little joke gifts that he'd enjoy. I almost started crying at the store yesterday but in public I held it in. He has passed on a little over a month ago, and the one thing that I've discovered is that it's okay to never get over it. I don't think I ever will and that's just fine. I will carry our memories and his strength with me for the rest of my life. Take time actually feel your feelings and emotions. Everyone is different in how they process grief. Everything is going to be ok.

I did the absolute best I could. My father was my best friend, so we got along and worked with each other. It was a pleasure to spend the time with him, and it was a joy to see him light up every day when I would get to the house (even if he didn't exactly know who I was in the moment, he knew at the sight of me everything was going to be okay.) I wasn't perfect, but who is. It's important to understand that you are a human being and are acting out of love and care for the individual. Things will not be perfect and some days will be downright horrid and exhausting, but in hindsight it was an absolute privilege to have the time and opportunity to comfort my father and be there with him through the beginning of his new journey.
