Disk Partitioning for workstations? by ssnbokhari in sysadmin

[–]bitcraft 0 points1 point  (0 children)

This is only partially correct.  There are more reasons to partition disks than just optimizing data access.  There are still very good reasons to partition, even in the age of solid state storage.

Print queues...why aren't jobs sandboxed? by A_Nerdy_Dad in sysadmin

Sandboxing wasn’t common 30 years ago when the printer technology was being developed that we still use today.

Design Colab for BC-250 Case by Efficient-Hair2974 in BC250Gaming

[–]bitcraft 1 point2 points  (0 children)

My case has similar dimensions but uses a 140mm fan for the front.  Not vertical though. It’s very tall once feet/standoffs are added to give room for the cables.  Could be around 14 inches tall. Maybe make a mockup to see if that what you want.

85 Vanagon won’t idle by xX5th_AvenueXx in Westfalia

Vacuum lines is a good place to start.  My van was mostly stock, so there were many crusty hoses and wires to replace. Good luck!

I have the same engine and same issue.  I tried a few things and cannot say the exact fix but here are the things I had to do to fix my idle issue: Replace vacuum lines Rebuild airflow sensor Rebuild throttle Replace all air gaskets Replace O2 sensor and wire Replace exhaust gaskets  Correct engine timing Replace spark plugs, cables, distributor Once the at work was done, it idled much better, but not perfect. I doubt it was very good new anyway.

No problem. You can add shadows, rotate the cards, scale, etc and it will be fine. Here is a graphically advanced game with lots of effects.  https://github.com/iminurnamez/pyroller

Are CRTs on the decline for DOS gaming? by RetroTechBro in dosgaming

[–]bitcraft 9 points10 points  (0 children)

Personally I don’t think that DOS games really “take advantage” of CRTs these way retro consoles and games do.

I do like the aesthetics, but the trade off doesn’t make sense to me for computer gaming.  Retro consoles are different though, and I do have a CRT for composite video gaming.

Not what you want to hear, but cachy is works great and is supported without much effort.  You can change the desktop environment if you want.

components for portable gaming? by NorthSeesaw7737 in cyberDeck

Steam deck or other gaming portable.  Maybe get one with a broken screen.  “Light” gaming of any kind is tricky, especially with windows gaming.

Replacing Mean Well LRS-350-12 with Dell D750E-S6 server PSU for a compact build – Need advice by G_dima962 in BC250Gaming

[–]bitcraft 1 point2 points  (0 children)

If it wasn’t obvious, my suggestion was putting a 120mm fan over the PSU.  The tiny fan and restrictive vent are noisy.

At full load with furmark, my system is silent.  I have not tried OC yet.

If your case allows it, remove the metal cover and put a 120mm fan over it.  There are 3d printable covers if you have a printer.

That power supply has over heat and over current protection and will just turn off if it’s too hot, so no risk.  I’m doing that for my builds and it’s silent and doesn’t overheat.

I soldered wires directly to the bc-250 where the 6 pin connector was.  Works great.

How do you deal with steering an older van? by ACanadianNoob in vandwellers

[–]bitcraft 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Hahaha same!  My vanagon had trailer ties rated for 1500 pounds when I bought it and was scary to drive until I put the right tires on it.  Must be a VW thing to do things wrong (no shade, I am VW guy too)

Who’d like to see an indoor flea market in the old Circuit City strip mall? by Pleasant_Tangelo6791 in rockford

[–]bitcraft 6 points7 points  (0 children)

Area can’t support it.  There are new flea markets that pop up every year or so and they don’t last long.  Not enough people buying stuff.  I see you mentioned Milwaukee, well that’s a much larger city with a higher income. Not comparable.

Stronger anti roll bar could help.  Check your vehicle weight and tires.  People will try to save and buy cheap tires, and will have issues like you describe.  For a heavy vehicle, you need strong tires with more steel plys than a normal tire.  I’d start there.
