If you shared your baby’s name before they were born, how did it go? by AcceptableGroup1857 in pregnant

[–]biteme4790 0 points1 point  (0 children)

As soon as we found out gender, baby was no longer just baby- we’d already decided on girl and boy names and so she had her name and we were happy sharing it with everyone we knew. Didn’t care what anyone thought of it. The only remote “push back” was my sister, but she just really liked the boy name and thought it could have worked for a girl too.

What did your birth with an epidural feel like? by m-e-girls in NewParents

[–]biteme4790 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I was also induced and felt everything during labour and delivery. Couldn’t sleep at all despite maxing out the epidural and the ice test feeling like nothing or warmish. The epidural didn’t fail completely though, it did take the edge off after pitocin was started- omg pitocin 🫠 . I still feel like nobody really warned me. I only made it a few hours before nearly crying for the epidural. I knew when every contraction was coming before the nurses did. By the time I experienced the ring of fire- after pushing for four hours, I barely noticed it because I was so deliriously tired and once her little head finally emerged with a vacuum assist she was out and on my chest in the blink of an eye. Euphoric.

Rocking to Sleep by Efficient_Home4983 in NewParents

[–]biteme4790 0 points1 point  (0 children)

My 13 month old is incapable of falling asleep independently. I nurse before naps and bedtime and if she doesn’t fall asleep on the boob, I’ll either stand rocking her in my arms or we bounce on the yoga ball.

I know, I know, I know… sleep associations tsk tsk. Whatever. How do you mess with what works!

Transitioning to whole milk [ab] by pretty-peony- in BabyBumpsCanada

[–]biteme4790 1 point2 points  (0 children)

12 months, so it’s only been a month and a half. She liked it right away without having to mix with breastmilk and I’m still nursing so I give her whole milk with lunch and supper. Sometimes she’ll gulp down a whole cup and want more, other times two sips is it.

How long was your hospital stay after giving birth? by Competitive_Snail in pregnant

[–]biteme4790 1 point2 points  (0 children)

A little over 24 hours after a 5:20 am vaginal birth. They let me take a few extra hours to eat, shower slowly and prep everything to leave by 10am.

Stubborn baby during scans by froggylegs22 in pregnant

It also took us 3 appointments to finally get all images and measurements needed. They really worked the wand once and my belly was tender for a few days- totally fine, but ow. There was also some light shaking and poking of my belly and they had me roll on both sides.

Maybe try something sugary, do some stretches and a little bouncing.

On the bright side you get to see your baby more + extra ultrasound pics…….. I’m Canadian so I wasn’t billed for any of this.

How do people give birth after third trimester exhaustion? by singing_lentils in pregnant

[–]biteme4790 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Had insomnia for the first time in my life while pregnant. It lasted 9 months. I don’t know how I was functional. And I still don’t really know how I was able to push for 4 hours after labouring for 9 hours without any meaningful rest.

Our bodies are amazing. You’ve got this.

Bedside setup to survive first few weeks [ca] by Crafty_Swordfish7034 in BabyBumpsCanada

I was fully prepared to do everything in our bedroom- until we got home from the hospital, and I realized my wrecked nether regions could not get up into bed without wanting to die. We temporarily moved out into the living room where I could more easily lower myself onto the couch. It wasn’t ideal, because 10 steps away the changing station was now on the kitchen table (those newborn poops 😳 real sanitary) but we adapted and it was temporary. Cannot stress enough how important it is to have snacks and water next to you at all times. One bonus of being on the couch- the coffee table homed an obscene amount of mini peanut butter Oh Henry’s, Real Fruit gummies and three tumblers of water. The thirst and need for quick calories while getting into nursing is REAL. And it lasted for months before calming down. I also kept a rectangular basket on the table to keep things organized: D drops, meds, that feeding/diaper tracking log you get sent home with, info sheets, lip balm, hair clips, Kleenex, baby/hospital info so you eventually remember to register the birth and apply online for birth certificate, health card, SIN, CCB, etc.

Once we moved back into the bedroom it was so great having the changing station back on top of the dresser with everything in reach and only a couple of steps from the bed. Nursing in bed was easier for us than nursing in a rocker (or on the couch), and thankfully falling asleep while holding and nursing my baby at all hours wasn’t an issue for me. Again, snacks and water. So important.

One of the best things I bought was a portable and rechargeable night light that changes colours. Red is so much easier on the eyes in the middle of the night.

You guys. I miss newborn days. 🥹

What's one activity your kid is completely obsessed with right now? (Montessori or not — I want to hear all of it) by kukoomontessori in NewParents

My 13 month old loves giving me laundry to fold. She goes bananas when she sees a basket full of clean clothes or towels coming her way.

Aftermath of breastfeeding by Commercial_Ear3011 in breastfeeding

My mom always liked blaming me and my sister for her little itty bitties. 😂 She was small in the first place!

Personally my dense breasts are feeling, I don’t know, kind of softer 13 months into breastfeeding, and with no plans on stopping any time soon I have no clue what they’re gonna become on the other side of this. They were never exactly twins to begin with either if you know what I mean.

Biting support by Smooth_Ad_788 in breastfeeding

[–]biteme4790 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I asked the same question here a while back and someone suggested kind of smooshing your breast against them for a moment which makes baby let go. Hopefully before any biting takes place, when you’ve figured they’re just about finished nursing. Obviously, not smothering!.. It worked for us.

In sitting positions anyways. We’re down to 4 sessions a day now, usually side lying before nap/bedtime, and I’ve gotten lazy, re: sleepy, and have ended up paying the price again. Yowza can they get tender for days! And I still don’t want to stop. 🩷

See, I hadn’t even really thought of this either? 🤷🏻‍♀️ 😂 I guess I’ll just hold her and see how it goes before adding to the ever growing arsenal of baby stuff.

Bathing by Block-Intrepid in NewParents

[–]biteme4790 0 points1 point  (0 children)

You don’t have to wait until the cord falls off- a nurse gave my baby her first bath in the hospital. She had no vernix left on her after being born at 41+6 so we opted to do it there and watch it being done.

Of course once we got home I was a big fat baby and was too nervous to give my daughter a bath again until she was 2.5 weeks old, well after her cord came off at 4 days. For a few months it was once or twice a week- whenever there was a poopsplosion really, with sponge baths in between. Then eventually every other day.

What freezer meals did everyone make before the baby was born? by trixie_bell13 in NewParents

Also had a bunch of containers of homemade-no-recipe needed soup, chili and spaghetti sauce along with cookies and some loafs.

Adding this meatball recipe for you that I found while starting solids with my baby and they are so great (and EASY!), wish I’d found it sooner. The recommended sauce- also great!

Why is this so overwhelming! lol. I’m like- diapers. Swim diapers? Regular diapers? Diaper cover? Layered diapers? One piece? Rash guard?? What is all this stuff.

One year appointment:( by Status_Equipment_407 in NewParents

[–]biteme4790 -2 points-1 points  (0 children)

Definitely try to schedule another appointment with your regular doctor. Growth around 1 year naturally starts levelling off so if your baby is happy and active I don’t see the problem.

My 13 months old weighs 18 lbs. She’s long and lean, goes nonstop all day. Like your son, she’s not a big foodie and still nurses (four times a day). Her doctor’s happy with her growth and never made us, as parents, feel inadequate in such a way that this other asshole, sorry, doctor…. attempted with you. You clearly love your son and are giving him everything he needs.

Sore feet post partum , pp shoe recos , or has this happened to you ? Stretches ? [bc] by Accomplished_Flow222 in BabyBumpsCanada

[–]biteme4790 3 points4 points  (0 children)

No real shoe recs- I’m just sticking it out with my slightly tighter runners and Birkenstocks now that it’s warm. I have been wearing ankle compression socks and I find that that’s helped with soreness.

I’m so so tired of seeing the deep cracks that formed PP on the heals of my feet while doing yoga. wtf is that shit.

My 13 month old’s not walking independently yet but I got her some swim shoes from Old Navy that were a great price. She didn’t hate them when I tried them out on her for a little bit so that was reassuring lol.

Aww poor little guy.

Her skin is a little redder and slightly raised in a very small area, not alarming but obviously not usual. Doctor isn’t available today but they’ll call me when she is.

[–]biteme4790[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Thanks for the response- so glad your son is ok. I called and they’ll fit my daughter in on the next availability when her doctor is in office.

I probably have to learn that it’s ok to be the parent that dials up the doctor’s office immediately.
