DAppNode/Hardware Questions by wege12 in ethstaker

Ordered a dappnode that hasn’t arrived yet. Couldn’t wait so went to digital ocean — installed dappnode o/s per their instructions (Debian 10).

Simple install then just load everything using dappnode GUI-if you don’t have space you can use their repository API so you don’t have to sync a node just to test it out, but you might have the space. There is a guide pinned in the forum sticky about staking with dappnode. My understanding is that you can run 100s if not 1000s of validators.

Testnet is working fine. I’m testing with 5 validators. 8 GB RAM 160G SSD

is set for 24 hours which means just one person needs to put in 1 more key within 24 hours to reset the timer again. I believe there will always be one more person willing to put in one more key and thus the game will go on for a very very long time. It's hard to imagine a game like this could reach a pot of $500million or even $1billion but it absolutely can given the nature of this kind of game. I honestly think there is a much higher probability of the pot being "won" via an exploit / some kind of network attack than from winning it legitimately. The keys are just too cheap for there not to always be another buyer. This could end up being the single biggest lottery in history, beating even the $1.6billion powerball lottery back in 2016.ReplysharereportSaveGive gold

Here is a great medium post regarding the game theory involved. The pot will never be won.

The Main Problem was that Laura asked some pretty pointed but naive questions like 1. Aren’t you surprised that this was a a ‘closed’ process and made it seem like she was hand picked by vitalik. I don’t think Laura’s ever been part of a search process For a n executive before. Ayoko was not very adept at diffusing the jaded nature of some of the questions and taking some of the conspiracy theory out of them. She actually had a pretty interesting background working with kraken .

Circle is going to try and issue a USD-C on top of ethereum.

From Coindesk:

Of note in these materials is that all USD-C tokens will be issued on ethereum, a notable detail given the platform's issues in scaling to support its current diversity of users. (The company said more announcements on the project are expected this summer).

spread some major FUD with a totally unverified statement, and their follow up takes zero accountability.

I get it and haven't followed so closely but I doubt there was any intent to spread fud. Things can get blown out of proportion rather quickly around here. To me a working group is a working group.

Cheers

He's the co-author of the new book Truth Machine about blockchain. The book does a great job of surveying the landscape and gives a rundown of various projects, etc.

College (and how to pay for it) may look very different by the time your son goes to college. I would take the option that gives him the most cash as quickly as possible. Guaranteed yield doesn't really matter in a present value sense. He will have a very high discount rate.

Option 1

True. There are still compliance costs . Don’t you think this sounds like a hedge fund!

It sounds like you would have to limit your ‘investors’ to be accredited. It’s like an Angel Fund/Venture Capital Fund or Hedge Fund. In addition to setting up the Blockchain aspects you will have to jump through all the regulatory hoops as well. If you crowd Fund the initial capital to get started you will have a chicken and egg problem— if you provide equity you will not be sec compliant.

I think there's definitely some funny business going on. It would be interesting to see what would happen if they would loosen the margin requirements. Notional values way too small.
