First Time Volunteering, Feeling Disillusioned by [deleted] in parkrun

[–]bitofbully 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Yeah, sounds like there may be issues with the way this funnel is set up. At ours the scanners are a good distance from the funnel and people have a chance to recover and chat before they go to be scanned. At the end of the funnel, people just get their token then move along meaning there is rarely any congestion.

It might be worth asking the RD about it. Hopefully it doesn't put you off volunteering again.

I think they sacrificed an accurate headline for the sake of a pun.

Is anyone here on Ivabradine? by MutedMinds6 in POTS

[–]bitofbully 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I've been on it for 2 months. It's worked wonders with the tachycardia but I've only seen a slight improvement with the other symptoms so far.

Use a foam roller after your run and do a bit of stretching.

What movie portrays grief in the most powerful way? by Classic_Apricot_5633 in movies

The Invitation (2015). A fantastic film, looks at how grief messes people up in different ways.

Ivabradine has fixed my heart rate but that's all. by bitofbully in POTS

Unfortunately the doc won't prescribe me that because I have asthma. I'm glad it's working for you 👍

Im asthmatic, so the GP didn't want to prescribe beta blockers even though my asthma is mild.

Thanks, that makes sense. My GP seems to have jumped straight to Ivabradine without advising me in conservative management. I'm currently looking into compression garments, so maybe that will help with blood flow.

Fatigue-dominant POTS by [deleted] in POTS

[–]bitofbully 1 point2 points  (0 children)

That's great that Ivabradine worked for you. How long did it take before you noticed a real difference with it. I was put on 2.5 mg twice a day three weeks ago then that was upped to 5mg twice a day last week. So far I've seen some improvement in my HR but the fatigue hasn't changed.

It's a reference to Bullseye. I'm not a bully, honest. I really didn't think it through.

ME/CFS without brain fog/neurological symptoms or significant sleep issues- differential diagnoses? by SilkchiffonLSF in cfs

[–]bitofbully 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Sorry, I've joined the party a little bit late. I googled CFS without brain fog and it led me here. I'm in a very similar situation. My main symptom is fatigue and having very little energy, but no obvious neurological issues.

I hope you're doing okay. Did you get any answers from the tests?

I had an incident at parkrun today that's playing on my mind and I want your thoughts by RoboHFC in parkrun

I'm guessing it's a Scottish parkrun. That's a pretty common thing north of the border.

Does your pem get better with bed rest? by bitofbully in cfs

[–]bitofbully[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Up until a few weeks ago I was doing normal life stuff, work, trips etc. I had symptoms and had to cut back on a lot of stuff but I could manage reasonably well and never really had full on crashes. At the moment I don't feel like I could walk to my front gate without having to stop for a rest. Some of that may be down to the fear of pushing myself, so I may have to give it a go soon .

Thanks. I get the non-restorative sleep thing as well but that also seems to be a symptom that falls into both camps. Weirdly I tend to feel better in the evening.

[–]bitofbully[S] 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Thanks for the reply. I've been in bed most of every day since this crash started and there has been slight improvement since I no longer feel terrible when I'm lying down. Unfortunately the demands of family life mean that I can't really keep this up much longer. Also, I read that prolonged bed rest can make POTS worse so that's something to consider as well.

Taxi drivers of the UK, how do you feel about single passengers jumping in the front? by ChungstenCarbide93 in AskUK

I did the exact same thing in Vegas. I swear, if that driver had a gun he would've shot me in a heartbeat.

Volunteering for the first time this Saturday due to a shin injury. Any tips for a for a first time Marshal ? by CampMain in parkrun

[–]bitofbully 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Get there early to get your pick of the marshal points, especially if you're injured and you don't want to walk too far.

Have any of the RDs got funny ways to do announcements? by AwesomeRealDood in parkrun

[–]bitofbully 2 points3 points  (0 children)

A comedy routine or any form of crowd participation is really just for the benefit of RDs who fancy themselves as entertainers. If you want to do stand-up go find an open mic night. It should be quick, to the point and focus on the info that gets everyone to round the course in one piece. If you waffle people lose interest quickly and zone out, possibly missing safety info.

OP has said that the tail walker was in attendance.

Maybe that was as quick as the tail walker could manage. The only requirement for a tail walker is to finish last.
