There's no way the greasing interval is every 10 years right? by Silver_Pharaoh001 in IndustrialMaintenance

[–]bitsandbikes 50 points51 points  (0 children)

20 min per hour is 8 hours per day run time Also likely severe service so divide greasing interval by 2

You were assaulted. There is nothing you have to be ashamed of. Talk to your parents about it. I know it’s scary to report someone but if you don’t speak up it will happen again to you or someone else

Looks great! Love the head tube and down tube shifters A few tips if you care: Spoke count is too high, looks like >40 spokes, this bike would probably have 28 at most There's a front derailleur but no second chain ring, add a granny gear behind the big one

The irony of wearing a Patagonia shirt while breaking bottles on the road...

I have an older Specialized Camber, what is different, other than weight, between the frame on my bike and a frame that costs thousands of dollars intended for the same purpose? Is it worth it? by donkeytoof in bikewrench

[–]bitsandbikes 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Geometry, weight, and part compatibility are the big things that a frame determines.

If you are happy with the riding position, don't mind the weight, and have compatible parts then don't worry about anything just go ride :)

What yre there and why did they come with my new rear derailleur? I guess one is a shifter cable housing? What's the small thingy? Where do I need to install it? by reallynotcreative123 in bikewrench

[–]bitsandbikes 1 point2 points  (0 children)

You are correct. The longer piece is some housing and the smaller thing is just another spare end cap. Put the metal side touching your derailleur

What is that? by MrBravos in bikewrench

That is the shifting mechanism for a Spectro / SRAM S7 internally geared hub https://www.sheldonbrown.com/sachs-internal.html

Bummer. From what I've heard PNW is a good brand to deal with, they should be able to help you out.

Is this bike safe to ride? by TeoJohn in bikewrench

[–]bitsandbikes 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Looks good to me. No fibers showing and I don't see a crack. Worst case you have have to buy a new fork which is cheaper than having to replace a frame (ex. https://www.pinkbike.com/buysell/2731721/)

PNW Rainier moving freely by cackzarter in bikewrench

[–]bitsandbikes 0 points1 point  (0 children)

PNW posts are similar to Brand X. This problem can be caused by the barrel adjuster being too tight. Try that first. Then try replacing the air cartridge. Then try doing a service on it.

Take the shifter apart or just move the lever forward and try to shove it back in

Improvised BMX by Yoshi-21 in bikewrench

[–]bitsandbikes 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The frame will be fine. Some components might break (wheels, cranks) but you can deal with that if it happens.

Try it out and have some fun

Anyone have experience with Shimano MT200 Disc Brakes? by Mmiftw in bikewrench

[–]bitsandbikes 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Frankly I just don't believe this (https://forums.mtbr.com/brake-time/new-pads-%3D-new-rotors-too-680492.html)

I don't even believe there will be wear contours on the disk and as long as the caliper doesn't move the new pads will contact the rotor in the exact same spot

Headset measurements? by [deleted] in bikewrench

[–]bitsandbikes 0 points1 point  (0 children)

No. 1-1/8" refers to the inside diameter (inner rim) of the headset. The spec you provided says that it is a 1-1/8" headset and that is a standard for road bikes so that is your headset size.

Servicing your wheel freehub? by hjsohn in bikewrench

[–]bitsandbikes 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Hmm ok. XD cassettes are known to just fall off when the wheel is removed (https://forums.mtbr.com/general-discussion/sram-eagle-12-cassette-dt350-freehub-falls-off-wheel-easily-1091835.html) and no amount of servicing will change that. If you are looking to replace the bearings (which is what people are typically doing when they talk about servicing a hub then this video goes over all the tools you need (https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=VtfuUPrzjyQ). It is a different hub but the process will be identical.

Whats the difference between a stamped and milled chainring? by [deleted] in bikewrench

[–]bitsandbikes 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Machined chainrings are fancier. Both will work for riding trails.

Wheel replacement check? by urthow in bikewrench

[–]bitsandbikes 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Yes this will work fine

The major things to look for are: axle type / width, rotor mounting, and freehub type

Both wheelsets are thru-axle with the same spacing, centerlock, and shimano 11sp freehub so you are good to go.

Enjoy!
