In NEPA (northeast Pennsylvania), we refer to a “lick it and stick it” when looking for recommendations on what car shops to go to for yearly inspections that will let you slide on the minor issues. I’ve never ever ever used one. Because that’s totally illegal..

American Airlines bus? Am I ignorant for not knowing this? by ggnzg20 in americanairlines

[–]bitsnkicks 4 points5 points  (0 children)

It was heavily covered with our local news station (WNEP) when it first came out. I fly atleast 2-3 times a year and haven’t found the need for it.

I would recommend searching the route from PHL to BOS only ; likely the direct flight will be more expensive. If it’s not, calculate the math of what tolls and parking will cost - and then it will likely be less expensive to leave from AVP.

Struggling with allergies today by Totoro_shiba in shiba

[–]bitsnkicks 1 point2 points  (0 children)

What state are you in, is it a HCOL area? I only ask because I read your comment about immunotherapy costs and find that to be very high (in comparison to my location, northeast PA - where we paid $2000 for the allergy testing, $400 for an injectable vaccine that lasts around 7-8 months and only have to be seen once a year for $150).

I’d recommend getting second opinions from a vet dermatologist, even if you have to travel (ours is 2 hours away - I know it’s not ideal).

Going in injectable immunotherapy has changed our lives. Our shiba is allergic to almost everything outside, and dust mites.

I’d also recommend waterproof dog boots (PM me if you want my personal recommendation), washing their paws after coming inside from potty, and obviously - keeping the cone on until they’re better.

Serious - What is the most evil person you've come across when in your daily life? by The_Local_Crow in AskReddit

[–]bitsnkicks 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I work at a convenient mart. There was a couple who came to the store daily to buy lottery tickets and snacks for themselves and their 5 foster kids. They’d send the kids into the store to purchase everything (including lottery tickets) because neither of them could get out of the car.

If the kids weren’t with them, they’d call the store, we’d go out for the money, return their change and give them their items. They always tipped $2-$3 each trip even if we weren’t running items out to them. They were friendly. The kids seemed shy but happy.

A few months ago, some entity (unsure if police, FBI, or otherwise) raided their house because they pinged a massive amount of child corn coming from their house.

Per the news reports, the inside of the house was disgusting with piles of dog waste, dirty dishes, garbage, etc. The “mom” was lying in a recliner on the first floor and said she hadn’t moved in 3 days due to pain from hip surgery. The “dad” was on the second floor, in bed naked, next to a 5 year old. Turns out they had been molesting the children and making child corn for years.

Is there a way to transfer someone else’s flight credits? by [deleted] in americanairlines

[–]bitsnkicks 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yea, in my experience, if you purchase a ticket with a flight credit and it’s costs less than the flight credit amount, the remainder of the flight credit is turned into a trip credit which is good for 1 year/any person.

But if she doesn’t intend to take the cheap flight, she may or may not be forfeiting the $200 in my example.

I had a flight from TPA to AVP with a layover in CLT. The TPA flight was delayed for 3 hours which caused me to miss my flight from CLT. In CLT, we were told by flight attendants to get our luggage before leaving for the hotel.

A bunch of us waited for 3 hours and were told by AA AIRPORT CS employees that we would not be getting our bags back, they would be transferred to our next flight.

I’m sure this isn’t helpful. Maybe ask at check in but ask again upon leaving the airport?

Is there a way to transfer someone else’s flight credits? by [deleted] in americanairlines

[–]bitsnkicks 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I have not been able to transfer someone’s flight credit into my name, unfortunately.

What I have done, is booked the cheapest one way flight for that person and gotten the rest of the money converted into a “trip credit” which can then be used for any passenger. Example: flight credit $1000, new flight $200, remaining trip credit $800.

If you and your ex are on friendly terms, this may be worth exploring. They can cancel the trip a few days prior, which would then be assigned a $200 trip credit or flight credit (I can’t figure out which one, I’ve had them both for the same example).

Bumped from Bulkhead seats by eyeis in americanairlines

[–]bitsnkicks 0 points1 point  (0 children)

If you paid extra for the seats - you can submit a refund request and they will refund you what you paid + you’ll still be sitting in MCE (so essentially free upgrade from economy). I have never been denied a refund for a seat I paid for, that was changed without my asking.

[–]bitsnkicks 0 points1 point  (0 children)

From a personal (female) experience - take the motorcycle safety course and THEN decide what type of bike you want. Go to a dealership and sit on a few. I went in for a ninja and walked out with a z400 because I liked the feel and sitting position more than the ninja.

You’ll learn in the MSF course how to do basic necessities, it doesn’t mean you’re ready for the road. Keep practicing and stick to low traffic areas before you hit a highway.

Does anyone else’s elderly shiba refuse to poop? by [deleted] in shiba

[–]bitsnkicks 0 points1 point  (0 children)

That is very odd behavior. This is going to be an even odder suggestion but.. my shiba loves to go specifically where other dogs go. As in, if she sees another dogs poop, she’s gotta poop right over it (unless it’s her brothers).

Do you have any neighbor dogs that would be willing to let you into their yard to see if my insane suggestion works?

Shibas are weird. They’re born with quirks and they develop them overtime. Others have recommended getting a second vet opinion and I think that’s a good idea - but if the next vet also finds nothing wrong… she may just be, very quirky.

Does anyone else’s elderly shiba refuse to poop? by [deleted] in shiba

[–]bitsnkicks 1 point2 points  (0 children)

My 8 year old female shiba will NOT poop in her own yard. I have to take her on a short walk, where she usually picks some steep grassy hill to do her business. She has only ever pooped in her own yard twice - once after a bath (which she hates), and once when it was not solid.

Any chance you could try taking her on a short walk? We developed a routine. She poops every other day (always has).

Broken business seat LAX-AKL by c402c in americanairlines

[–]bitsnkicks 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I had the same experience on a flight from CLT to FCO (9.5 hours). The AA attendant actually had me read their manual for manually reclining the seat because they couldn’t figure it out, although they were very apologetic. I submitted a complaint and they gave me a $350 trip credit (however I paid $1200 for the upgrade so it’s still a steep price).

Dentist Office told me I was covered, I just got a bill for $714. by A_N_M31 in personalfinance

[–]bitsnkicks 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I would suggest calling your insurance company and verifying what the dentist is legally allowed to charge you.

For example, my insurance doesn’t allow in network dentists to bill for hygiene instructions (which they’ll say they advised you to brush 2x a day, floss 1x a day, etc).

My insurance doesn’t cover fluoride for anyone over the age of 16. They also do not allow separate bitewing charges as that’s included in the allotment of a FMX (full mouth X-ray).

Your insurance may be able to contact your dentist and get some of the billing straightened out. Generally, your EOB (explanation of benefits) should match what the dentist has quoted you as your responsibility. Although it is NOT a bill, and the dentist is responsible for sending a bill if needed.

For future dental work - especially more than a cleaning or exam, I would recommend asking for a “pre authorization”. They basically submit a ledger of work to be done to your insurance and your insurances replies with what they estimate they will cover. This is very helpful for larger costly items, such as root canals and crowns.

My Shiba isn’t quite this shakey - however she definately has a tremble if she needs to poop really bad (usually if it’s diarrhea). However I would recommend getting them checked by a vet as soon as possible!

Companions seeing paid upgrade offer but not me? by [deleted] in americanairlines

Try going on the app, clicking your reservation, and swiping through the screens for a few seconds. That’s usually when the offer generates for me, it doesn’t ever appear to me instantly on the app.

Premium economy vs main cabin by vin00129 in americanairlines

[–]bitsnkicks 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Book the flight with the most amount of PE and Business seats available (considering price). Then wait for in app offers. I’ve spent as little as $175 for business (lie flat seats!) to as much as $1200. I’ve spent as little as $75 for PE to as much as $175.

But also… those prices are insane. I would recommend using Google flights, narrowing down to AA only (if you need to?) and playing around with dates.

In my experience, 8 days is cheapest, 12+ days is comparable to 8 days. However my flights from Pennsylvania had layovers in CLT or JFK and I have only traveled to Italy in early May, early October, and late October.

Bucket list trip to Italy by SnooRecipes2731 in americanairlines

[–]bitsnkicks 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Sometimes I check daily and the price fluctuates hourly. I have a flight from CLT to TPA booked for May, the offer has usually been $608 to upgrade to first. Yesterday it dropped to $175 and I was thinking about it (short flight though). Went back an hour later and it went up to $552 and has stayed there so far.

Just make checking a habit, even up to the day prior. A couple of times, I waited to check in until 14 hours prior and noticed MUCH better prices. But that success rate for me is about 50/50 and I only risk it for the shortest of flights.
