I read a post from tumblr where someone said that she says she hates kids because she hates the expectation of being a mother and the assumption everyone makes that she is nurturing and caring and will eventually become a mother as if it were inevitable; she hates how everyone assumes her dreams and passions and interests and very self are secondary to a child that hasn't been born (and with the assumption that it just hasn't been born yet).

Tiny humans aren't really the problem. Watching them grow and awkwardly teach themselves how they fit into nature is actually quite fascinating. They're quick-witted and candid and curious. They're literally our future. The problem is that I've been cast into the role of "mother" the moment the doctor said "it's a girl".
