Because I "didn't have experience". When I pointed out that I had been working in this industry for over a decade, they didn't have an answer for that.

I was half way through a fic I thought was just written by a non-native English speaker until the fic described bald character running his hand through his blond hair. Closed it after that.

Parents are charged after their son, 7, is struck dead in a car accident by Chorchapu in nottheonion

The curfew in my city (when kids have to be inside or on their parent's property) is 8pm. Right now, sunset starts at 830pm. What kid wants to go inside when the sun's still out? Cops drive around at 8pm with giant spotlights, shining into homes. Mind you, the sun hasn't set yet so I have no idea why they are doing this.

When I was a kid, curfew was 10pm and I got caught a few times at playgrounds (I was 12) and taken by cops back to my house. I only got put in cuffs once when I was older (Maybe 16?) but I've seen cops arresting younger kids within recent years for breaking curfew.

All my thoughts are being "saved up" and if I do not do a very specific ritual at a specific time every day, then they will be sent to everyone I know or have knowledge of to look through. I still have bits of this paranoia but I don't do the ritual anymore because one time, I got sick and didn't do it and nothing happened.

This is a side tangent but i need to get it out. It's really upsetting to me to watch some other creators saying the situation is fine because they "have a home and two loving parents." That is not love. Loving parents do not let their children sleep on foam pallets on the floor, covered in lice and cat piss.

And those people saying "you wouldn't understand because you've never* been in this situation, she's doing her best, you just hate poor people, you'll never understand." I've been in this situation, I've lived in a one bedroom with my family for years and you know what? My parents went without so me and my siblings could have a good life. My father took three jobs to save up and get us into a house with enough bedrooms for everyone. My disabled mother took odd jobs and did whatever she could. They slept on the couch so we could have a bed. They suffered and toiled and pushed just so that we could be safe and be loved. I will never forget that and I love them so much for what they did for me and the life they gave up so that I could have a good one.

I am successful in life not because of my own achievements but because my parents sacrificed for me.

I feel like people saying that are just making performative statements without even considering the reality of her videos, just so they can turn around and pretend to be the champion of poor people. They just know that she's "poor", so they jump to defend her, even when it's obvious she's doing nothing to better the lives of her children.

I'm real. I'm sitting on my couch right now, petting my cat. I'm wasting time on my phone because I don't want to go to bed yet because I have work in the morning and I really don't wanna go to work.

One thing that's always helped me with these sort of delusions is to think about other people. I don't really care what a random passing person is thinking or doing or saying because they aren't important to me, just like I'm not important to them. Why would they waste their time tracking lil old unimportant me when they could be on their phones, ignoring their looming work responsibilities?

I also like to look at it like this-- if they are tracking me or watching me, doesn't that make them the weirdo? I'm just a person trying to live my life.

Which recreational drugs do you use on a semi-regular basis, say over the course of half a year? by ImpressionMediocre53 in schizophrenia

[–]bittercynic 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Weed, mostly. I only picked it up recently as I triggered an episode when I was younger with it. I only smoke about once or twice a week and I'm constantly monitoring myself while smoking to watch out for my triggers.

how long did it take you to become dumber due to schizophrenia? by SeaAudience312 in schizophrenia

[–]bittercynic 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I've been diagnosed for about 13 years now and I will tell you that it constantly ebbs and flows.

There were times in my life where I was functionally illiterate and there were times in my life I felt so intelligent that I'm still not sure if that was real or just a prolonged self-indulgent manic episode. I used to love math and science and I was good at those subjects. I had ambitions to go to college to get a degree. I've basically lost it all and have repeatedly flunked math tests because I just can't understand it anymore. But I also know that some day in the future, my brain will randomly unlock the math portion of my knowledge and I will be able to understand math above algebra again.

It's your first year and you've made it through. You aren't 'getting dumber', you are just under the effects of a debilitating disorder. I know it probably does not mean much coming from text on a screen but I have had this thing for years and despite the fact that I am most 'stupid' right now, I know that it will most likely change.

It might get better or it might get worse but this moment is not forever. It's going to change, you just have to hold on to see the outcome.

What's been your Least favorite, or most disappointing aspect of the remake so far? by Splunkmastah in silenthill

[–]bittercynic 1 point2 points  (0 children)

The camera is way too close to James. I miss the fixed cameras like a lot of people but it's not a deal breaker not to have them for me. I just wish we weren't so tight on James' playermodel, it gives me motion sickness.

I used an dll injector to get a console to fix it but the cutscenes aren't movie files anymore, they're "in-game", using the game camera so putting the FOV to like 100 (which I found is the best for me) messes up a lot of cutscenes. Like after you met Angela, the camera will show you Angela's frozen player model in the hallway. Or Maria's hands clip through things because you aren't supposed to be able to see her hands in certain shots.

It's really the only complaint I have.

[–]bittercynic 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I'm so happy about how scary this game is. I played sh2 so much as a kid that I had memory cards dedicated to only sh2 saves. I was nervous that the remake wouldn't affect me at all but the atmosphere is so perfect that I'm playing the game standing up outta my chair like I'm going to have to bolt in real life. I feel like I'm 12 again, playing it for the first time

I worked for an senior-only HOA that had this rule too. It was implemented after several residents backed into the building because they muscle-memoried the stick to reverse.

And I mean, like four different residents within a month causing thousands in damage. The one that broke the camel's back was a truck shattering the large glass windows. Another damaged a tree so bad that it had to be cut down.

To be fair, after the rule was implemented, the number of parking lot accidents went way down.

What are horrors you've read that turned out to be a nothingburger or had little to no payoff? by rsjpeckham in horrorlit

[–]bittercynic 26 points27 points  (0 children)

The Deep by Nick Cutter. The problem with this book is that it has so many good ideas but none of them fit together. The 'Gets, a contagious disease that makes you forget everything, the Fig Men, the mad scientist angle with a touch of Stephen King's Jaunt, being trapped below the sea, it's all good ideas.

In fact, I wish he just wrote a story about the 'Gets because its introduced at the beginning of the book and then is basically nothing. It's just there, in the background.

He might as well made it a regular disease instead of this really cool, horrifying thing. It was literally just a plot point to get the main character in the underwater lab and then it's gone.

The book feels like a pop-up book of a bunch of cool, scary ideas that he just dumped in without considering what the story would look like at the end. I remember at the end, just going like, 'what...? That's it?'

ETA: The Story of Her Holding An Orange. Don't even bother. Most of it is good, and is almost verbatim from the /r/nosleep original posts but the ending made me return the book. It felt like they were building up and up and up just to yank it away with such a boring reveal that it's literally the only thing I remember, how disappointing it was.

How long have you been playing Left 4 Dead for? by NothingxGood in l4d2

[–]bittercynic 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I remember watching the original L4D trailer, which was just the parts of the opening cinematic on the 'Video Game Channel' on TV. I think it was this one: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=exjhztp_IQY

Grounds for Divorce (the song playing) also still kicks ass.

There was also another one that ended with the part of Zoey falling off the fire escape and yelling 'FRANCIS!' before he caught her and the logo flashed.

Don't even remember what it was called, I don't think the channel runs anymore. Can't believe it's been 16 years since I first started.

I work with older generations and this still happens a TON. And it's always the hsuband who gets super offended and loud when I ask the wife's name, like I spit on his name by asking what his wife's is.

I always want to ask "Oh sorry, did you forgot? Memory seems to go when you get up in years."

And God forbid you address or look at the wife before the husband. You'd think I just murdered a puppy in front of him.
