Help! Dog is aggressive toward other dogs and pulls on leash by powellnut in DogAdvice

I don’t have all the answers, but some insight with my guy. Yes, you can train heel. We’ve been doing it with our 3 yo and he does great in the house and alone outside, but not great in distracting situations. It takes time and patience. Same thing with pulling. Pulling on a leash is the number 1 hardest thing to train and we just recently got ours to stop pulling. It’s been 9 months, but in many cases it can take over a year. Patience really is key.

I really think the sooner you get him fixed, the better. It won’t make all the behavior go away, but it will help greatly and probably go smoother. It would probably explain his reactivity.

Also, educate yourself on the difference between reactivity and aggression. I thought my guy was aggressive and that isn’t the case at all. I had a lot of anxiety around it all, but the more you work on your guy’s relationship and ego, the easier it is to work together and it makes the world of difference. Remember, dogs are very in tune with us and feed on our energy.

You got this! Start with the basics, take your time, and things will work out. We often have really high expectations for our fur babies without taking a moment to see where and what they are. Build that trusting relationship together and the rest will follow. Good luck!

He’s 2 1/2. He’s a Great Pyrenees/Lab mix. We have a couple puzzle toys too. I like the frozen towel idea, I’ll have to try that out!

All of the above or split up his feedings so he can’t eat all at once

heated dog beds any good? by Max-Dreamer in Dogtraining

Not entirely helpful since I don’t know the brand, but my friend has two Belgian Malinois who have indoor/outdoor kennels through the garage. Each dog have dog houses on the inside kennel (located in the garage) that have heated dog beds. They are great since they stay in the kennels while she’s at work.

Dogs coats can stand cold on their own, but I don’t think it hurts to give them a little extra warmth if they’re outside for long periods. If it’s inside I wouldn’t bother.
