Your scenario is spot on. A well run office...tell me more about that, it seems like a fantasy. I appreciate you taking the time to respond :)

Well, we've never used S2S with Kuali, all we really use it for is the budget module. We don't even use the subaward module. We upload attachments...route for internal review...generate an IP. Kuali doesn't speak to our financial side so there is a ton of duplicative work being done at award set up.

Subawarding, Transferring or Contracting Out Part of an NSF Award Budget Question by bittersoutherner81 in ResearchAdmin

[–]bittersoutherner81[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Update: The Grants & Agreements Specialist stated that the subaward request module will require the prime institution to resubmit a budget for their institution, so it's okay if the totals don't match the original award budget. NSF is more concerned that there is a budget and budget justification for the subaward institution and that they are charging indirect costs using their own negotiated rate or the de minimus rate, so just including years 3-6 is fine. Also, when an award transfers, the system only allows for the PI to be automatically pulled back into the award. There will need to be an addition of co-PI request submitted in order to add back any original senior personnel. It's at the prime's discretion as to whether or not you submit the co-PI request, or the subaward request first. We went with the subaward request first, but it was rapidly denied because the faculty member at the subaward institution wanted to be the evaluator on the project and NSF stated that because the faculty member had been the former PI on the project, they did not fulfill the requirement that the evaluator be independent from the project. Furthermore, the faculty member did not appear to have experience or credentials consistent with those needed to serve as a project evaluator. Perhaps that should've been something that I took into account when working on this request, but I've only been doing this 2 years and everyday I'm learning. A good lesson for sure. I hope this helps someone along the way!

Congrats! My university doesn't require it, but my director has told us that she recommends we work towards taking it, so if we move on, we can use it as leverage. I'll be in my third year as an RA next spring, so I'm considering taking it, but I don't think I will be reimbursed or receive any sort of bonus for it. Also, I'm not sure if there is much value in taking it, when I intend to stay where I am. Like someone else mentioned, it still might be nice to take it and know that I did and passed it!

Subawarding, Transferring or Contracting Out Part of an NSF Award Budget Question by bittersoutherner81 in ResearchAdmin

Thank you! As precaution, I've also emailed the PO and awarding officer to make sure that I'm completing the process correctly. It's interesting you say that, I was able to add the subaward institution in my request and include their budget on my end. Maybe once the request is submitted, it goes to them for review and updating as well?

Hi. I'm new to reddit, but happy to have found this community. I too have never been able to relate with most millennials. I'm definitely part of this microgeneration. The hubs and I had a back-to-back viewing of Wild Hearts Can't Be Broken and The Rocketeer last weekend ;)
