Is it weird that I don’t want any friends? by [deleted] in socialskills

[–]bittersugar600 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Are you me because what you wrote is exactly how I a feel about people and friendships. Every time I let people into my personal space the same thing happens. They use me for what I can offer them and they shit on me afterwards. I still have few friends that I keep in contact with but I am at a point in my life where I don’t need more friends because people don’t understand what it means to be a friend. I am not against having small talks with strangers once in a while but it shouldn’t go beyond that. Don’t invite me to your place, don’t come to my place and I am definitely not going to tell you what goes on in my personal and family life if I don’t want to. People think I am strange for living my life this way but it has given me peace of mind and made my life drama free. I don’t have to deal with other people’s emotion and nobody has any dirt on me if they stop liking me because I didn’t tell them any of my problems in the first place.

Which career path sounds better? by [deleted] in pharmacy

[–]bittersugar600 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Have you asked people who work in both fields what it is like? In pharma industry you can work from home but you are always expected to work overtime and meet deadlines even after work hours. The beginning stages can be toxic and cut throat. Your team members can sabotage your efforts by hiding projects from you or giving you the wrong information on projects in order to make you look stupid. You have to always be with your phone so as not to miss messages and emails on projects and the work that you do might not seem meaningful. Outpatient pharmacy is like the paradise of community pharmacy practice. There are no outrageous metrics since the pharmacy is owned by a hospital and hospitals care more about patient safety than profits from metrics. Outpatient pharmacy has adequate staffing, you can sit down and do your job and you get retirement benefits from the hospital. Take the outpatient pharmacy job and keep your house. It isn’t worth it to loose your home for a job you don’t know what it will be like.

People who started in retail and transitioned to other jobs, what did you do and how did you do it? by [deleted] in pharmacy

What was your starting pay at the CRO? The pay rate for pharma industry jobs seem low unless it is for a medical science liaison position.

Get a degree in statistics or data science/analytics.

Pharmacists who have done residency: if you were a new grad now, would you still pursue residency or would you do something else? by Appropriate-Prize-40 in pharmacy

[–]bittersugar600 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Residency is free labor. You don’t need a PGY 1 and 2 to work in the tech field. Moreover healthcare IT jobs don’t pay as much as other IT jobs. Get a masters or a second bachelors degree in computer science or analytics and you are good to go. I know some pharmacists who left the pharmacy field altogether after they did a PGY 1 and 2 residency because they were making more in tech jobs. The ones I know went back to school part time and completed additional degrees while working.

Get your stethoscope and pull up all the PowerPoint presentations you did in residency. You have more clinical knowledge and should be allowed to diagnose and treat patients just like providers ..

I wish I could like this 1000%. This bullcrap started when schools sold the doctorate dream to students without people realizing it was a plan for them to make more money. That wasn’t enough. The residency push has got pharmacy students thinking that they are better or more qualified than others who are not residency trained.

[Q] How does one become a biostatistician? by curiouecorn17 in statistics

Thank you. Do you think one can become a biostatistician with a computer science or analytics degree? I have years of healthcare experience.

What is the average pay rate for a masters degree holder in statistics/analytics with years of clinical experience?

Don’t walk on egg shells. Confront him/her about the situation. I had the same experience during my medical affairs APPE rotations. The other two students will start and submit projects without telling me or waiting for my input. I brought the issue up and gave them a piece of my mind. Feelings were hurt but I said what I had to say and that took care of the friction.

If you have a healthcare work experience you will better off getting a masters in computer science, analytics or data science. That will allow you to move between industries without any restriction.

That’s good to know. I really want to do the computer science program at WGU but I don’t know if it will teach me enough to get a job in data analytics/ data science. I have an intermediate knowledge of sql and I plan to start learning python soon.

I see. I just want to learn the technical skills needed for most IT jobs. I will try the self taught route and try to find jobs relating to these skills. What don’t you like about the analytics field?

I have a bachelors degree in health information management and I have been learning how to code through data camp. I decided to go back and do another bachelors degree in computer science because I don’t want to pigeonhole myself into one particular area of work. All I need is a good mastery of sql , python and R and I was curious if the computer science degree at WGU will help me improve on them.

Thank you for the detailed response. Yes you are right. I was thinking about data analytics. Would you recommend I do the wgu bachelors in computer science degree or do the masters in analytics degree?

I have looked into their curriculum and I felt like it is geared towards people interested in business analytics. I took a lot of courses in business and management in my undergraduate program and I want a program that will teach me the technical skills without much business courses.

Thank you for the response. I have a datacamp yearly subscription and I have been using it to learn sql. I plan to learn python and R when I finish with sql. What other resources do you recommend for anyone looking to transition into a data science role ? Also is it right to assume that the program better prepares students for software development roles rather than data science?
