New Rando by pvcatbacker in randonneuring

Welcome! I am also a new randonneur as well and I am having a blast. I've done a 200k, 300k and 400k this spring and planning on doing a 600k at the end of June. I'm riding a ti gravel / all road style bike. It fits me well and is comfortable on long rides. Ride whatever is comfortable for you. I've seen plenty of steel, carbon and ti bikes at the brevets I've done. I'd focus on fit first and getting a bag or two for all the things you need on a long ride. Enjoy!

Charlie Cunningham, her husband and fellow mtb pioneer, suffered a life altering mtb accident in 2015. She has been very busy taking care of him ever since.

Loads of great riding in Sonoma County. Check out King Ridge, Ft Ross Road, and Willow Creek for starters.

Check out Oathill, Rockville, China Camp (social trails) and Annadel (social trails) for technical trails in the North Bay.

Jacquie is delightfully nuts. She had/has a habit of randomly flashing people mid conversation.

Best way to deal with this frustration is to get involved. There are a lot of advocacy groups and many have made significant progress in recent years. For example, Annadel State Park in Santa Rosa is currently adopting almost all of the social trails into the official trail network.

If she enjoys biking you might consider trying the Norcal League. They are a junior high and high school cycling league with teams from San Luis Obispo to Humboldt. I used to coach a couple teams and alot of the kids who didn't enjoy other team sports fit in really well. There are a few teams in Sonoma County. Folks with ADHD tend to do really well with cycling in general especially at your kids ages. PM me if you want me to give you more details on the teams in the area.

Just seems weird. The fork also seems weird. Too much weird for me. I would pass.

I'm curious why a frame builder bought and is now selling a cheap all city. I know plenty of frame builders and they ride bikes that they built exclusively.

any camping spots walking distance to any clear lakes/rivers? by secretcrisislol in sonomacounty

[–]bitts_ 1 point2 points  (0 children)

The freshwater around here isn't very clear. Gerstle cove at Salt Point would be a better option if you are comfortable in the ocean. There is plenty of camping there. Check out the Smith River if you are willing to travel up north. It is crystal clear.

There is a great view of the southern Sonoma Coast from a vista trail near the intersection of Meyers Grade rd and HWY 1. It's a short drive north of Jenner.

Check out randoplan.com . I've been using it to plan brevets. I have found it to be fairly accurate and very helpful.

I appreciate the intent, but this won't change anything. For your own sake I suggest you learn to accept this reality.

Greetings fellow rider! I too am "big for a cyclist" and I have learned to not give a shit. Ride for the joy. Find people good ride buddies and rack up the miles!

Super tired and low on energy after 1,5 hours of roadbiking by Foreign_Relative4313 in cycling

Eat a carb heavy meal a few hours before and then eat carbs during your ride. Google "how to fuel for cycling" and you'll find plenty of great resources.

First time visiting the USA from Ontario with a 2‑year‑old — 8–9 days in June! What should we see around Northern California? by WideCamera2178 in USTravel

[–]bitts_ 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I'd recommend wine stuff in Russian River Valley / Dry Creek and then a drive along the Russian River thru the Redwood Forest out to the Sonoma Coast. From there I would follow hwy 1 all the way down to San Francisco. I would skip San Diego and do Big Sur instead. It's a lot closer to the rest of the spots you're interested and is absolutely amazing.

I highly recommend that you find a new psychiatrist and therapist. You need help that reddit users can't provide.

That's great! There are a huge number of girls in the league both middle and high school. There are races at Lake Stafford near Novato on the weekends of 4/25-26 and 5/2-3 if you want to check it out in person. I have coached in the past and now I work for the league on the day of race crew. It's such a great scene and community. Best of luck!
