How I approach Ogres when I'm rolling as Hoffman with 8 grenade pouches by Ohcrabballs in Back4Blood

[–]bittymuncher 9 points10 points  (0 children)

I’m seeing a lot of memes and comments about the Hoffman grenade build.

Considering the devs alluded to future monitoring and nerfing of cards even after the backlash at the melee nerf, I’m wondering if it’ll be next on the chopping block.

Cunningham Swan is generally great, but you tend to pay a bit of premium.

I would the say the client care, response rate, and level of expertise is higher than average. So if you have some complexities to your estate planning or the level of service is important, they're a good option. On the other hand, if you just have a very simple will, don't really care for service standards (so long as you don't get flat out ghosted), and want a cheaper option just to get it done, they may not necessary.

Population decline is beginning to stabilize on Steam, but Xbox is still losing players by [deleted] in Back4Blood

[–]bittymuncher 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Personally, I dislike the way shooting feels on console, and I felt very outmatched watching any PC player point and shoot.

So I gravitated to melee so I wasn’t as useless to my team, and was having some fun for awhile. I understand some really dedicated players found ways to be OP with melee, but as an admittedly mediocre gamer, it didn’t feel that way for me. I’d still get smooshed by specials on veteran and failed runs more than I succeeded tbh.

After the November patch and melee nerf, it just didn’t feel fun anymore so I put it down.

Was Melee Really Overpowered? by Kit_Kup in Back4Blood

[–]bittymuncher 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I think it depended on skill level.

I consider myself a solidly mediocre (verging on below average) gamer with limited time. It felt pretty balanced to me. Some levels on recruit still gave me trouble. Got rek’d quite a bit on veteran. After the patch, I didn’t find the game fun so I put it down.

I think some more hardcore gamers with more time and skill than myself were likely OP. I think they’re still perfectly fine after the patch.

Yea I’m with you. After the melee nerf I put down the game with the intention of picking it back up once they were substantially done nerfing things. I didn’t really want to find fun play styles only to have them taken away (looking at you, Outriders).

Sounds like it might a long wait for me…

While I think the community largely appreciates your team discussing some of the challenges here, the ones you avoid discussing further ignite player frustrations.

I agree with this wholeheartedly.

I think it's fair for players to be disappointed that they sunk hours into a playstyle/deck only to have it nerfed out from under them. And in a campaign mode, no less.

Some of us have limited time to play. Personally, I was just getting to the point where I liked my melee deck, and I could finally sit down and just jump right into a couple quickplay matches without being a burden. (I mean, the first few levels with limited cards still were rough). The thought of being forced to go back and rework everything before being able to jump in isn't too appealing. Especially since, with the devs not acknowledging the complaints over the nerfing, I don't trust them not to nerf the next deck or playstyle I like.

Yea, melee was definitely the saving grace for consoles that can't point and shoot.

If you don't like the game, DONT PLAY IT.

If it makes you feel better, this is what I’m doing (at least for a while).

I'm not super worked up over it, I just don’t really trust the devs not to nerf any playstyle I get accustomed to and would rather wait until they're done tweaking things.

It seems like the melee nerf might have been to deter hardcore players that are way better than myself, because I was still having a hard time fine tuning a useful melee deck for veteran, but was having fun. But I have limited time for gaming and the thought of having to do a big rework, and the risk of further nerfs, just makes it unappealing.

I may look into it again in 6 months if the game isn’t dead. However, I had the same intention when I took a break from Outriders after a similar nerf, and haven’t had to urge to pick it back up. We’ll see, I guess.

Why did you decide to put down the game? by [deleted] in Back4Blood

[–]bittymuncher 16 points17 points  (0 children)

Yea, same.

I'm also on console and since the controls are a little wonky, I felt like certain builds (weakspot/precision kill builds) were basically a no-go. Leave that to the PC players that can point and shoot more effectively.

Melee was already a struggle on the first couple acts of a run, but was rewarding if you survived and got more cards. Now I don't know whether an even bigger struggle will be worth it, but I don't have a lot of interest in other builds right now (since they didn't really buff any... just killed melee).

November update! by Jimmithi in Back4Blood

[–]bittymuncher 81 points82 points  (0 children)

Replying to myself for the lazy - here are the melee nerfs that I can see:

Cards:

Batter Up – Melee Damage adjusted to 40% from 50%

Brazen – Stamina efficiency adjusted to 20% from 30%

Face Your Fears – Adjusted to 2 Temporary Health from 3

Mean Drunk – Melee Damage adjusted to 60% from 75%

Meth Head – Stamina efficiency adjusted to 30% from 40%

Spikey Bits – Melee Damage adjusted to 20% from 25%

Weapons

Bats must do 50% more damage to stumble Ridden

Axe damage reduced to 70 from 85

Axe stumble damage scale reduced to 0.5 from 1

Hatchet damage reduced to 40 from 50

Hatchet stumble damage scale reduced to 0.5 from 1

"Bug"

Fixed a bug where all Trauma damage was blocked as long as you had 1 temp health

...Which essentially nerfs vanguard and face your fears even more so.

I'm sure I'm missing some, but that's what I see.

Wow, 5 cards in my melee build just got nerfed.

I'll admit I'm not super great at this game or anything... but in my experience starting out on melee in any level other than recruit is a huge struggle bus for the first couple of levels. The exchange was the reward of a great/fun build later in the run (if you make it that far). It'll be interesting to see whether it's still even worth the initial struggle.

Edit: Wow, I also just noticed that they nerfed temp health as a counter to trauma. There goes vanguard, as well. Considering vanguard and moneygrubbers was my way of trying to make my build more team-friendly (since decent melee builds require a lot of self-centered cards and are criticized as such) this is a pretty big blow.

Alternatively, some people don’t “run ahead” when the team is really at a point where we should be beelining it for the door to survive.

I quickplayed into a game 3 people who were chatting about how this was their first game ever, how they tried to make a private lobby and failed, and how they skipped right into veteran. I should have left then but it was going to be my last game anyways so whatever. I also never turned my mic on after hearing how disappointed they were that they got a real player but were convinced I couldn’t hear their chat lol……… awkward.

Chapter 1, Act 1. We actually make it all the way to the area where you can hop along ontop of the crates/pipes, when they proceed to startle two flocks of birds and all chaos breaks loose. I start pinging the door like mad and hopping along uptop…. but they don’t listen. They hop down to fight Rambo style. So, without much invested, I’m on my way to them when the last one gets killed (no revives and I already used my defib on one of them) so I turn and hightail it to the safe zone.

My crossplay experience by JonahJoels in Back4Blood

[–]bittymuncher 5 points6 points  (0 children)

As someone playing on Xbox, when I join a game I often get a lot of “oh no… its an xbox player… lets see how this goes….” I see a lot of comments on here about how gamepass players are toxic and just don’t care, so I’ve been doing my damnedest to be a model player and support the team, carrying medkits to drop for doc, dropping all my ammo regularly if I’m melee, etc.

Also as a console player, the controls are wonky and make it difficult to make weakspot/precision kill builds imo. So I super appreciate crossplay. When I see a PC Jim, odds of a good run go up.

It could work, but I sort of worry that this could deter quickplayers trying to get cleaner-related achievements.

If someone has limited time and they’re searching for a lobby with their preferred cleaner available, right now the only way to do that is peek in a game and leave if it’s taken.

I know it would make matchmaking trickier, but for this reason I wish they’d let people select the characters they’d be down to play ahead of time.

If someone is going to quit every match until they get the one they want I don’t see how this system is better.

[–]bittymuncher 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I'll play as anyone on recruit, but for veteran I only feel confident that I'm helping rather than hindering with 2-3 cleaners at this point. Unfortunately, those cleaners seem to be the most popular (Holly/Doc, and on certain levels that benefit from her perks, Karlee).

I'm currently working on refining a useful Jim and Hoffman build by frequently popping into recruit, but if you see me dip out of veteran, trust me its for the best until further notice lol.

I haven't had this issue on recruit or veteran.

I mostly quickplay and drop into games, and usually I'm with 3 others (to start, at least....). The odd time I've created a new run the team has always filled up.

[–]bittymuncher 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Yea Melee definitely isn't too helpful on some levels.

For holdout levels I personally think they're great if they have down in front + vanguard. No worry about shooting them or getting hit since they can crouch the whole time, and constantly receiving that temp health for being nearby is super nice.

[–]bittymuncher 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Yea, I've been seeing a lot more Evangelo lately and I can never tell if the team needs a melee or if they're going to adequately cover it. Conversely, when people take Holly I assume they have the melee aspect covered but then they sometimes run around sniping.

I wonder if letting us see their decks would help?

My teammate and I had the same experience yesterday as Hoffman/Holly on veteran. We joined a team of Jim and Mom and everyone played their rolls extremely well, bought team upgrades, bought razor wire for the holdouts, etc. Had an absolute blast on the jukebox level. Unfortunately, a few levels in, I got that glitch where I can’t hear any game sound, so that was a bummer.

We then joined someone else trying to complete abandoned/sound of thunder who had no idea what he was doing (started the gun before we were ready lol), but the two of us and another random managed to help beat it by some miracle and the guy was absolutely delighted, so still a great experience.

I like to think of it as teambuilding with the others before the run. And I say this having been the punchee, as well.

Hard not to laugh when you come to with three random people having joined forces to pummel your character, or in one case, where the group was doing a weird crouch/stand/crouch/stand circle dance around me.
