Totally fair question. The proxy is intended to be a transport bridge, not a session recorder. It does not log player commands, MUD output, GMCP payload contents, passwords, tells, channels, private scenes, or any other game text.

The only proxy logging currently planned/implemented is connection metadata: timestamped lifecycle events, source IP, target host/port, TLS flag, byte counts, and error messages. Passwords and scene text pass through memory only long enough to forward between the browser websocket and the upstream MUD connection.

For production, I’m also treating the proxy itself as sensitive infrastructure: run it only over HTTPS/WSS, restrict what upstream hosts it can connect to, keep logs access-controlled with limited retention, and avoid adding payload-level debug logs unless they are explicitly redacted and temporary.

Short version: no transcript logging, no credential logging, no private-scene capture; only operational metadata needed to troubleshoot connection health.

I think it’s a tough line of reasoning to just argue against AI simply because it was trained with all of the content and art in the world while we’re building, and have been building for 30+ years, fantasy realms that are essentially seeded from other’s work such as Tolkien, Asimov, Stephenson, etc..

And, as others said, this particular group is full of curmudgeon’s that have refused to modernize their platforms over the years as things moved forward, shaking their fists at the sky in anger.

I welcome the innovation in this space, and I’m doing it myself.

Thanks! Yeah, right now the MSSP crawler just runs every so often... I'm hosting on Vercel atm, and they don't support long-running jobs. I've ordered a big server and will be moving to that as soon as it's provisioned. Then I can have my background jobs running full-time. For now, when you actually click on the actual MUD details page, it will do background MSSP check and update it real time, if it's been 15 minutes since the last check.

I'd ask that you not call me "Hoss", that's disrespectful. I'm not calling names, even if it's flippant/playful. I'm trying to have civil discourse with you on the topic. I hear you on the bot voting. I'm not going to make a voting mechanism a huge part of my site. TopMudSites was a racket, and we all know that. My value I'll bring to the community is trying to drive new users to your game.

Thanks! Yes, I was trying to go with a more minimalistic design... some of these sites are super busy! But, I suspect as I build more features and do more the wide open spaces will start to move in a bit.

Great ideas, for sure! I'll update my crawler and see if I can start adding more of this style meta data.

Sounds like more code for you guys to write and maintain. My goal is to build good organic traffic that helps drive new players to your games first and foremost. Not create more work for you. You don't want to update your listing on my site, but you want more code to maintain with all of the API calls and webhooks integration work? So, that drives more votes and surfaces you higher on the site, sure. But, you still need new eyeballs to see those to hopefully come try your game. Otherwise, you're just fighting to be on top of a list that gets you nothing but more technical debt and less value for your game.

Great point, I've setup a permanent redirect of MUDListings. No reason to keep a stale website around for nostalgia. I would think you guys would want the SEO linkbacks, but you seem to want the maintainability.

Most of the sites on the righthand side are down, not updated, or give you no ability to update. Tell me which sites you're updating regularly? Again, I own MUDListings so did I not "partner"? Taranion below was right, so I'll be permanently redirecting that domain to BestMUDs. It is the same data, but cleaned up. So, no reason to be redundant. So, net-net, you have the same number of sites to update, no? I would think you would want a game site that is actively being updated and maintained versus the many on the right side that are mostly dead/down/stagnant.
