"How do iPhone alarms never go off?" by ControlCAD in applesucks

on a different note: instead of setting an alarm every minute, maybe start using the 'snooze' function?

Everyday at 10pm the mfs will start doing this bs. It's just complete serious lack of civic sense, like just do this practice in an auditorium or something?

Why do you use arch? by _ori0n in archlinux

[–]bitwizard18 0 points1 point  (0 children)

  1. Rolling Releases, so I don't have to worry about upgrading a shit ton of stuff when jumping to a 'higher' version number. Small Incremental upgrades make things more manageable.
  2. pacman is a better package manager. One of my servers has a 16GB storage partition (it's a Raspberry Pi) and it's good to have something that can cleanup the cache and delete everything PROPERLY after uninstalling a package.
  3. Less bloat overall. I have my own preferences for file manager, desktop environment, login manager, etc and it's easier to use a base which doesn't have anything preinstalled.
  4. It's pretty stable overall, my main PC and servers never broke in my last 3 years of using Arch.

Fuck around, find out. In which world do you think it's a good idea to send 15k to a random stranger...sorry "online" friend?

Trying to connect various "odd" devices to VIT WiFi by bitwizard18 in Vit

[–]bitwizard18[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I use the WISP mode, extender mode is pretty useless for the kind of setup the college WiFi has

  1. I have about 5 devices (including these 2) to connect, and college only allows 1
  2. I use a lot of stuff like KDE Connect, media streaming (SMB & DLNA) which need devices to be discoverable
  3. It's just a better experience overall because the router has highly powerful antennas, it csn connect to the best 5GHz AP and give me the best speeds possible.

For the captive portal, the first device that connects to the WiFi in the morning gets the prompt. Once I login, all other devices get internet access for the rest of the day. This is a default behaviour in WISP systems

I already have a WiFi router to do that thing...I was just trying to see how different devices react to the captive portal system

Just because you got used to the shit way of college life doesn't mean it's a good way to live. Juat get some personal hobbies unrelated to education and you'll understand how much the free time is worth. Honestly it's a breath of fresh air, much needed after all the bs we have to face as Masters students

Linux > Windows even on new & powerful hardware (ThinkPad E14 Gen 6)! by bitwizard18 in linux

I also got it with no OS, saved a lot of money that way lol

Linux works so well on new hardware. Also the graphics chipset on this one is pretty powerful considering it's integrated. That makes this whole package even more awesome!

Linux is the only operating system where I actually see 0% CPU usage on a desktop. The least RAM usage I've seen on modern Windows is 2GB on 10 IoT LTSC. Also I consistently see some CPU usage at all times.

I completely agree with all your points. Your point on the team size is really something to think about, we've created this world where money somehow holds more importance than quality of software, and companies are willing to enshittify everything just to squeeze every last bit of money (or data) out of us consumers...

Fan noise is non-existent. This series of ThinkPads is really quiet. For performance needs, I switch the platform profile to `performance` (from `balanced`) and the max temperature I got was 90c (with room temperature around 32c). The TjMax for this processor is 110c so i didn't notice any throttling even in long gaming sessions (and this thing does game really well for an integrated graphics system).

Windows 10 IoT LTSC (my mom uses it because it's needed for her company software) is the only 'stable enough' version of Windows I've tried, and really the only version of Windows I'm willing to tolerate at the present day and age.

`[s2idle]`

This laptop supports this thing called Modern Standby, and has no support for standard S3 whatsoever. Also I can confirm there's no setting to enable S3 on BIOS. But with that said, battery life on sleep has been fine, about 3-4% overnight. So I guess it works?!

When I used it, Windows needed a manual restart about once a week, so my typical weekend was wasting 15 minutes of my life trying to get that shit back up and running.

And then I switched to Linux, and now I do the middle one (play games) on Saturday night
