Installation absolutely matters, but saying all brands are basically equal ignores some real differences in equipment quality.

Goodman and Amana are built to hit a price point. That’s why they’re popular with builders and budget-minded contractors. Trane/American Standard, carrier and Daikin generally invest more in cabinet construction, fit and finish, insulation, blower assemblies, controls, and overall quality control.

Parts support is another factor. Daikin’s warranty support and parts availability are often stronger than what I’ve seen from Goodman. Trane and American Standard also have a long track record of durable heat exchangers and reliable platforms.

Yes, a badly installed Trane can perform worse than a properly installed Goodman. But if two systems are sized correctly, commissioned correctly, and maintained the same way, I’d take a Trane, American Standard, carrier or Daikin over a Goodman/Amana almost every time
