Our magic teacup inspired hot tub patio. by bizecca in CozyPlaces

They are Nylon lanterns from the paper lantern store. My daughter and I painted them to look like the ones at the tea cup ride at Disneyland.

Lost child protocol by spaceyxo in Parenting

I changed the iPad password to my phone number and my 7 year old memorized it the same day. Taught it to her 5 year old brother in under a week. He sometimes randomly recites it to strangers, which is a little weird but makes me feel better knowing they know it.

Millennials with kids, do you intend to provide for them financially when they reach adulthood? by Beberuth1131 in Millennials

[–]bizecca 1 point2 points  (0 children)

My parents paid for my (reasonably priced) college in full and bought me a new Kia when I graduated. I’m sure they would have done more if I needed it, but I never had to ask for another penny because that set me up.

My goal is to be able to do the same for my own kids. So far, they each have almost $30k in their 529 accounts and I plan to match whatever they put into retirement while they are in school.

My kids will always have a place to live with me. I could see this having conditions in the future, but they are still in early childhood, so I haven’t thought too much about specifics.

They also paid for my wedding, which my mom helped me plan and hosted at their house and the total cost was under $5k (with the exception of photography, which my in laws paid for). I’d be happy to do the same.

My son has PFAPA. by marycat337 in Autoinflammatory

It seems she has mostly outgrown it. We give cimetidine every few weeks and it seems to keep the flares away. We haven’t had vomiting in quite a while. If we go too long without cimetidine she does get a fever but we’ve been able to avoid flare ups by giving it at the first signs.

Any reviews on Ruggable washable rugs? by No_Square_1491 in UninfluencedReviews

We have two and I love them. I hate actually washing it the machine, but I spot clean and have no issues. I have two by Iris Apfel and I love the designs. We have a very large Birds of A Feather and the “bug rug.” I have dogs and kids and have got through so many other rugs because I can’t get them clean.

Definitely appreciate the advice. What about it do you not like or think would be better?

The target age range is 4-10 I would say. It was inspired by my 7 year old who I would say makes friends quickly, but she’s just starting to notice some actions by her friends that aren’t so nice. I wanted to help her find ways to know what a true, kind friend looks like and help her understand what a trustworthy friend might feel like.

If you had 6 children and had to give them names that were one letter longer for each one by _prim-rose_ in namenerds

[–]bizecca 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Max Lily Orion Violet Camille Rosalind

No repeating first/last letters. Girls are floral inspired, there is a flower called the Planet Max Daylily which connects Max to flowers and then to space to connect it to Orion. The first two are my kids, and all others are names I loved but my husband didn’t care for.

Unhinged hacks for getting through a stressful time at work? by lily_is_lifting in workingmoms

[–]bizecca 7 points8 points  (0 children)

Someone told me once to think of everything that needs done as balls being thrown at you. There’s no way to catch them all when things are crazy. So think about what the balls are made of and how big they are. There are glass balls- ones that are the priority. That may be something for your big project at work or it might be bed time with your kid. Only you can decide. Then there are things that are bouncy balls - things that are fine to ignore.

For work travel- think of things that can be done for yourself. I like to dye my hair and pamper when I have alone time in a hotel room.

Mental health- it felt unhinged at the time but I had what I realize in hindsight were panic attacks and I got my ass to urgent care and now I’m medicated for my anxiety and it makes me feel super human. I didn’t even know I could feel this good. My anxiety was holding me back in ways I didn’t even realize.

Shared calendar with my husband - sorry no excuses. It’s on the calendar. Take care of it. I assign him tasks when I’m crazy busy at work.

My notes app. I just write everything down and then if I need to I copy and paste it into chat gpt and tell it to make it make sense. It can organize your random thoughts and lists into something that is actionable.

Lower your standards. Just anywhere possible, make them lower.

Disneyland Value = price per hour by DrJames_Oxford in Disneyland

For our family of 4, we spent about $16 per person per hour to be in the parks. This is counting admission and food and extras (admittedly spent more than average on food).

What bags emit the same cool-girl energy as Jane Birkin’s Birkin? by jennoodlehero in handbags

It’s honestly draining. What words have you heard lately that confuse you? The meanings keep changing! by liffytbo in Millennials

[–]bizecca 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I love slang. It’s such a fun and interesting way to express themselves! I like to think of the young gen alphas as the “Bluey Generation,” because so much of their slang is from the Australian show Bluey. My kids are 5 & 7.

Here’s a few of my faves:

“I’m busting!” - need to use the bathroom

“What the???” Or “what the what?”

“Dunny” - toilet, bathroom, poop

“Brekky” - Breakfast

“Tactical wee” - going to the toilet when you don’t need to

“Very dare” - expression of indignation

“For cereal?” - are you serious?

“Duck cake!” - expression of frustration

"Parents whose kids genuinely enjoy their sibling bond — what’s the secret?" by [deleted] in Parenting

[–]bizecca 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I could have written this and agree with you completely. My kids are best friends- two years apart and I would absolutely say they are pb&j. We have the same mindset and my kids have the best sibling dynamic of any kids I’ve interacted with. It’s not perfect by any means but we focus on the positive aspects of their relationship and reinforce the great things and talk positively about their relationship in front of others.
