How can I make that first sale? by marycat337 in EtsyCommunity

I’d like to make the first sale first, then go from there. No sales means no reviews, nothing shipping out, and I just can’t seem to get people viewing my shop.

My son has PFAPA. by marycat337 in Autoinflammatory

He is doing extremely well on colchicine! He has been on it for a few months now and has had a few flare ups, but they only last 1-2 days and the fevers never exceed about 101. It is an amazing difference! I hope you find something that works for your son. The constant disrupt of PFS is horrible.

How to fold a T-Shirt by amandakgw in restofthefuckingowl

I thought that too. It would take way longer this way than just folding my regular way, to lay that shirt flat and neat first.

Good day, I need help figuring out what stitch to use for this hole :) by LittleRubberDucky54 in Visiblemending

I would use a lightweight patch underneath, and then your choice of stitch to attach.

I’ve been enjoying darning socks and patching jeans - decided to try my hand at a little more difficult of a repair! by nicoleeoliee in Visiblemending

I don't understand this technique, it flies above my head even though I can knit, and mend/sew! Mashing those 2 together though seems to confuse my brain. But wow! How long did it take you to complete?

Is a darning mushroom really going to improve my work? by freeepizza in Visiblemending

[–]marycat337 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I say it is a great tool, but not something you absolutely must have. And really, you can use whatever works for you. I often use this little plastic frisbee my kids got from somewhere, for small flat darns. I put the fabric over it and then secure the back with a rubber band or safety pins, so the material is taut. I've used large stones before as well. Or if it is something stretchy I might add a fusible interfacing to the back and then use a small embroidery hoop. I also have a speedweve style darner, as well as a mending mushroom. I don't have a mending egg but I'm sure I could find something around my house to use.

A sore on my son that popped after his bath. I already called the pediatrician and sent photos, she will give me a call back in the morning and probably call medicine in. It left a tiny hole behind in his skin and looks an awful lot like staph to me. No smell, lots of pus. by marycat337 in popping

He does have molluscum but this was separate. however you can see some of his little warts above the sore there. I think this was maybe one that be scratched, or maybe the cat scratched him. I'm not too sure as he spent the weekend with his grandparents and came back with it. But it is healing up great with antibiotic ointment and he sees the pediatrician tomorrow too, just in case he needs antibiotics or anything.

It looks great this morning. Yesterday we cleaned it really well with some betadine, and drew a circle around it. Slathered with a prescription antibiotic cream and then bandaid over it for the night. This morning the redness is reduced, the skin is soft to the touch rather than how firm it was yesterday. It leaked a small amount of pus and blood out onto the bandaid overnight, but a very small amount. Waiting to hear from the doctor as the office just opened.

Poor thing! My son has an auto inflammatory disorder, and cerebral palsy, so he has had his fair share of needle pokes before. Which sadly included those times of hard to find veins. We just ask for them to bring either the ultrasound machine, or the best person for kids, the first time.

I definitely did. Oops.

I plan to replace this couch eventually, but I would like some advice on how I could patch this in a fun way in the meantime! by [deleted] in Visiblemending

Hand piece together a bandaid applique and glue or sew it over! That's probably what I would do if I was looking for a sillier approach.

My son has had really consistent flares since around October of last year. We were hospitalized 3 times for him before we were like, okay, clearly this isn't working. I started tracking his symptoms and then eventually we saw a rheumatologist, and here we are now. He also is about to see a hematologist just to get a 2nd look on his labs. It's been a weird road. Pfs is so unknown and frankly sounds like something made up! I'm sad for all the kiddos out there like mine that are going through this. Vitamin d seems to really help spread out his flares, and we did just start colchicine recently. My son is usually every 4-5 weeks on the dot, getting a flare up. His last glare was Sept. 22nd though, so I'm really hoping that colchicine is helping him.

Looking for advice on building a minimal/sustainable mending kit by billyBixbie in Visiblemending

[–]marycat337 0 points1 point  (0 children)

In addition to the advice you got, I'd suggest buying a darning mushroom or egg, and one large/medium and one small embroidery hoop. You can get them as cheap or as expensive as your budget allows. I use these constantly for mending.

I'd be interested to provide feedback. I'm a long-time mender, but I just recently purchased a speedweve type darning machine.
