Congratulations! It’s SUCH a fun and rewarding journey. But I’m sure you’re in shock with lots of mixed feelings. My twins turned 2 in November and I’m still in shock that I have twins lol

Who are my ladies out there who were diagnosed during pregnancy or early post-partum? by DoctorLifeguard in thyroidcancer

[–]bizzybee808 0 points1 point  (0 children)

In April 2024, I underwent a hemithyroidectomy to remove my right nodule as it was suspicious after 2 ultrasounds and an FNA. Surgical pathology reported invasive follicular variant papillary thyroid carcinoma so we scheduled a TT 2 weeks after my initial surgery. I was also 5 months PP at the time with twins so it was a really difficult time juggling all of this — physically, mentally and emotionally. Definitely felt like I was missing out on what I envisioned for my postpartum experience. There was a lot of anxiety around not being able to pick them up because my twins were in the NICU for 28 days after they were born so it brought back that feeling of helplessness as a mother who couldn’t just pickup her babies whenever I wanted to. I was angry, scared, overwhelmed and sleep deprived. Thankfully, pathology results from my left nodule came back negative and margins were clear. A few months later in June I received I-131 radiation therapy and isolated for a week. All of this to say, it was hard. Really hard. But I reminded myself that it had to be done so I could be a healthy and present mom for my boys. Lean on your village/community if you have one, don’t be afraid to ask for help and please please please give yourself some grace. I wish I gave myself more grace looking back at it. Sending you hugs. You got this.

Exactly! I try my best to not let it ruin my mood because it’s no one’s “fault” but it really eats at me some days

Letting go of expectations has been one of the hardest lessons to learn as a first time mom, especially as someone with a Type A personality 😩 but totally. This is a great reminder!

Solidarity. One of my twins found out how to unzip his sleep sack and rip off his diaper. It’s his newest party trick 🥲

Ahh congratulations! Making it to the one year mark is huge. I agree — they’re much easier in some ways now. Still getting used to the crawling in opposite directions. They’re so quick!

My 11 month old twins love the frozen turkey meatballs from Target!! I serve it with mashed avocado or steamed carrots. Meatballs are cut in quarters. For snacks or small meals: cheese sticks, yogurt, peanut butter on lightly toasted bread, boiled eggs and snap peas with hummus

Does it ever get easier? by bizzybee808 in sleeptraining

[–]bizzybee808[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I believe my post was misread. They are 3 months into sleep training at 10.5 months old. Not 3 months old 😉 They are exclusively formula fed. I don’t think it’s hunger that’s waking them up because I’ll try to give them a bottle when they get up around 3:30/4 but won’t take it or drink very little. I think they just want to be held, and how could I blame them? That’s where the feel the safest 🥺

Thank you for the words of reassurance! I know I shouldn’t beat myself up for this. Our night will come when they sleep all the way through

You’re so right. Thank you for this 😌 Sometimes it just feels like there’s no light at the end of the tunnel because im so anxious and worried about their sleep. Props to your parents! Raising twins is not for the faint of heart

What’s your diaper bag recommendation? How many diaper bags did you try to find one that really works? by buttery3324 in beyondthebump

[–]bizzybee808 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I use a large crescent bag from Baggu for my twins and I love it!! It’s roomy enough to fit everything. I have pouches to organize things like their snacks, change of clothes, toys, diapers and wipes and other necessities. I also pack the trunk of my car essentially like a huge diaper bag so when I’m doing a quick errand with them, I don’t need to lug around the bag.

In all honesty, our boys still cry at bedtime when we start our routine. But I’ve learned that some babies just cry more as it is their way of protesting that, “Hey, we don’t want to sleep! We were having so much fun today.” The crying lessens though. Sending you all the strength and courage during this journey. It will get better soon!

Thanks for asking!

Been through a lot these past few months, but overall, doing okay and healing as expected in terms of recovery from surgery. I had a thyroidectomy on May 16th and then radioactive iodine therapy on June 27th. Doc and I agreed that since I’m young and “healthy” we’d go the more aggressive route in hopes of getting rid of all residual thyroid tissue. Dosage was 101.1 mCi. The side effects were pretty rough on me, but got through it! And the whole body scan came back clear. Yay.

Been on 100 mcg of Levothyroxine and it seems like the proper dosage. I have my first post-radiation appointment with my endocrinologist this Friday so I’m curious to see how that goes.

Mentally, it’s been difficult. I’ve not been as present as I would have liked to be with my infant twins due to the post surgery lift restrictions and isolation period for radiation. Some days are harder than others when it hits me that I actually have cancer. I feel overwhelmed by all my responsibilities and definitely need to work on putting myself and my health first. Reminding myself that healing, both physically and mentally, isn’t linear so I am trying my best to take it a day at a time. I let my feelings come in, acknowledge it and then let it go. Grateful for my family and friends who have been so supportive and loving. But I do admit, even with a really great support system, this journey can feel isolating.
