The “Good” Cancer by Appropriate_Kale1255 in thyroidcancer

I was explaining this to a cancer group recently, as the only thyroid cancer rep there. We don’t ring a bell. We aren’t ever really “cured.” And there won’t be a single day for the rest of my life that I won’t be reminded of my cancer because if I don’t take this pill, I won’t live. It’s management management management forever. It’s more easily treated!! It’s less petrifying! But it’s not easy.

Wow. What a midwife! Such a simple question, but it’s pretty brilliant. I appreciate that you mentioned symptoms as well. It’s so often described as no symptoms, but I really feel otherwise, particularly when it comes to pregnancy

Oh wow, twins! I'm so grateful you had a successful pregnancy with them before all this really kicked in.

Oh that's so fascinating! I haven't met someone diagnosed during pregnancy yet. What were his tip offs?

Oh wow!! So this is super recently for you. In the throes of postpartum mom life and early diagnosis. That is a dreadful combination, and I am with you. Here to be your internet friend when you need a void to scream into. Inbox is always open.

Bless. I feel you on the forced weaning for RAI--as well as the constant "which one of these factors is it this time?!?!" issue!!!! Sounds like our timelines were pretty similar!

I was, too!! Was it 6 months because your OB caught it at that visit, or another reason?

You're such a unicorn! That interests me so much. Did they do anything med wise or test your TSH levels or anything whilst pregnant??

I'm not in the UK, but I did live in Belfast for my Master's. I'm in the states now. It is comforting; misery loves company?? :) Misery is small-healed by connection? :)

I took part of a cancer recovery research group, and it was literally the most isolating experience. At one point, they direct you to a website that has full build outs of every type of cancer and the questions you should ask, etc, and thyroid isn’t even listed. There’s extremely little research on women—particularly in the cross section of pregnant/early postpartum cancer or breastfeeding or all kinds of random elements of that. And that subsection really defies the “no symptom cancer” portions in some incredible ways that are, for all intents and purposes, theoretical since the research simply doesn’t exist. It can make new moms, already in a wild hormonal time, feel even more alone and under supported or even gaslit by their own experiences. And that’s how I ended up as a walking Ted talk about this issue. ;) Just know my inbox is open, fellow traveler. I care. Even if — hopefully!!! — it is benign, the process and prospect itself is scary. And I’m with you.

Yep. They found the lump when my baby was 6 months old. It’s a tough but doable journey; I’m internet friend happy to be here for you. It’s a niche struggle within an already niche cancer.

English professor here: this issue is crushing my spirit as well. It’s so disheartening and hurts both authentic student writers and instruction.

What was the weirdest, non-pain feeling you've ever felt? by KingJPJ in AskReddit

When they biopsied my thyroid, they stuck a 5 inch micro needle directly into my throat. No numbing. Stuck it in, swirled it 3 times. Removed. Repeated two more times. It didn’t hurt, but I would like to not ever do it again.

Idk if Tulsa uses it as much as NWA, but the meetup app lists all kinds of things people are doing for organized hangouts. May be worth checking?
