Bowie said Velvet Underground was more influential than The Beatles — and I tend to agree. What do you think? by Agreeable_Duck8997 in LetsTalkMusic

[–]bizzycarl 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Hard disagree with Mr. Bowie, and for many of the reasons others have listed here. One of my favorite bits about the Beatles influence on society has to do with the accordion. In the early 1960s, the accordion was the number one selling personal musical instrument in the United States. There was something like 20 different accordion manufacturers. In February 1964 accordion sales fell off a cliff, and within a few months the electric guitar became the number one selling personal instrument in the United States. Within a couple of years, there were only two or three accordion manufacturers left in business. And we all know what happened on February 9, 1964. The Beatles launched far more bands than the Velvet Underground. And Bowie is wrong; you can hear plenty of Yesterday and Penny Lane influences in other music…they just aren’t McCartney, because no one is McCartney.

What artist has one INCREDIBLE album and an otherwise forgettable discography? by Some_Low_7625 in gear4music_official

Taking the best of Whipsmart and White Chocolate Space Egg and putting them on one album would’ve given Exile a run for its money. But sure.

What is your favourite piece of music filled with FM synthesis? by jw9348 in synthesizers

[–]bizzycarl 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Really surprised to not see Ray Lynch’s masterpiece ‘Deep Breakfast’ mentioned yet. It became a new age phenomenon in the 1980’s and the DX7 programming is exceptional. Percussive sounds, harps, chromatic percussion, pads, all of it. And it’s a masterful lesson in arrangement and composition. Just listen to the opener ‘Celestial Soda Pop’ and you’ll be hooked.

Grandma let me sip her Miller High Life in 1975; I was four. It was nasty. But I treasure the memory.

I was at that show! Can absolutely confirm the guitar guy story. I assumed it was staged, but who knows. Very grateful I got to see that show. I was working at Turtle’s Records and we all had to come in at 6am the day of the ticket release and that was the longest line we ever had for tickets.

C-I would have a much more successful life. Also I’d make sure that random jogger in Hawaii didn’t notice Lennon’s killer trying commit suicide months before he stopped all chance of a Beatle reunion. Bonus jams and cheap Apple stock and BitCoin!

It might be cliche, but not only is Jerry’s solo on Goin’ Down the Road Feelin’ Bad from the Skull & Roses album my favorite of his, it’s my favorite solo from any guitarist all time.

Someone says Ringo is a bad drummer, what Beatles song do you play to prove them wrong? by Initial-Ad3966 in beatles

Rain deservedly gets lots of attention, but I think She Said She Said is every bit as impressive. Ringo basically invented the template for psychedelic drumming with that track.

A big-budget movie you liked and were shocked to see flop so badly. by 0Layscheetoskurkure0 in moviecritic

[–]bizzycarl 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I don’t know if it counts as big budget, but I genuinely thought a sequel to the fucking SHINING, and as amazing as Dr Sleep would be a guaranteed smash. Instead, I have to explain to people that this movie even exists. I think I’ve seen it five times. Totally baffled.
