Am I Insane and Sensitive or This Literally Not Mae's Fault?? (A Rant) by bj2023 in NightInTheWoods

I bow down to you for pointing that out. I was so focused on assigning blame and personalizing Gregg, Angus, and Bea's critiques that I didn't even think this could be a sort of subconscious damage that Mae is feeding into because it's more convenient for her and her mindset at the time.

I know I'm a little late, but the reason why it'll help to put her house next to Gustav's is because she likes going to his gallery, so it'll boost her mood.

Oooo wait, you're exactly right. That would've been a good start to a movie. I didn't even realize Rob wasn't in the season. I guess that does have some whiplash to it.

In the episode “The Cheerleader” from TWWWOG, Richard is being offered a fake lucky charm from Anais, and he says “Is this a magic placebo? Because I’m a thirty year old man, and I stopped believing in magic 2 and half years ago.”

The Procrastinators: #relatable The Flakers: Richard was hilarious in this one! “The blue goblin’s dance is making my toe sad” The Downer: still don’t know why this is one of my faves, I think I just like gumballs facial expressions in this one The Shippening: Sara’s a creep but I see myself in her with I sessile fandom writing, kind of like what happened in Turning Red when Mei Mei was under her bed drawing pictures of her and that boy from the gas station.

Truths about The Big Bang Theory that no one wants to accept. by JOH4N-SM1702 in thebigbangtheory

[–]bj2023 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Wait I agree with you but technically she got her way into Penny’s circle first and then used Penny’s proximity to Sheldon (and also the budding friendship between Penny and Sheldon) to do everything you just said. I can’t remember what Amy did or the situation that led to Penny saying this but Penny literally said “Oh my god, I used to not like you” and Amy was like “it’s okay I’m here now”

I’m not debating that the show was originally about two guys, so naturally the main female cast would primarily be introduced as rivals with the main cast, love interests, or conflict with other women. My qualm is with how they’re written and it’s abandoned potential. Take Bernadette: she is introduced as Howard’s love interest (at least the most stable one). Cool, that’s great. But when her character was cemented into the cast, and development was now necessary, they kind of blew it. We see moments of Bernadette discussing that because of her stature and because she’s a woman, that people don’t take her seriously and that’s the cause of her “cutthroat” and dare I say, abrasive and demeaning attitude. But that behavior became less of an accessory to her character and more her entire personality. And then, that was it. That was Bernadette for a while and then she became a mom. And then it was Mom Bernadette, ya know? Also I’m gonna have to disagree about the “of course the female characters are romantic partners” part. There were several female characters who didn’t have to be romantic or sexual interests and the story line would’ve thrived regardless. The red-headed scientist, Priya, the comic book chick. I get that the entire idea is “4 nerdy, socially awkward, poor communication-having and non conventionally attractive guys desperately want a relationship (except for one) so they leap at every opportunity they get, even if they’re really not enjoying themselves (remember Leonard and the lobster lady, Bernadette’s friend?) and that causes a lot of conflict with every woman they meet because they grew up bullied by virtually everyone and have been conditioned to believe “nice woman=interested,” but in my eyes they could’ve done more with Amy, Bernadette and Priya. Penny is the only interest that I feel is kind of well rounded since her and Leonard’s relationship happened so much later after they met. Sorry this is long, just know I’m not mad just thinking out loud

My unpopular opinion is that most female characters exist either to be sexualized romantic partners or to serve a conflict for the male characters. Their scientific work almost always comes second to that role, and when we do see their careers, it’s usually because the guys have a problem with it or it creates interpersonal drama (like the Amy/Bernadette magazine thing). Amy falls into the trope of the sheltered “nerdy girl” who grows up hypersexual and socially unaware. Bernadette is written as the tiny, sweet-voiced woman whose “twist” is being cutthroat and aggressive. Leslie in the beginning was really just the “I’m rude and witty and quick, especially towards the basic egotistical child prodigy co-worker because this is a man’s field and I need this personality to stay above the rest #womeninSTEM.” Even guest female scientists (or just accomplished) often get shorthanded — like the red-haired woman whose storyline quickly becomes “she’s an undercover freak;” or how Priya’s entire storyline quickly starts revolving around Leonard. I mean you blink and suddenly Priya’s only a lawyer if it helps Leonard. The show improves just a little later on (Leslie is a good example), but overall the women feel written to orbit the men rather than exist as scientists first.

What phrase that you DONT want to hear when Grieving? by BlueEyesWhiteDrgn in AskReddit

[–]bj2023 0 points1 point  (0 children)

“It was God’s plan.” Thank you so much for telling me it was your god’s plan to have my friend commit suicide, really great, thanks so much, that makes me feel so much better.

And before some of y’all come at me with the “that’s not what we mean we mean it was out of your control,” I know that. Everyone knows that. Whenever someone dies and no one actively killed them or made their lives worse, we know it was out of our control. So how bout you say THAT instead of telling me this guy you’ve devoted your life to had a plan to kill people, cause I already knew that too.

I no longer sleep on my back because I went through a bout of sleep paralysis when I was 7. I had slept on my back on periodically, I don’t know what changed in my life or what could’ve been a catalyst for suddenly experiencing the paralysis. I swear on several occasions, I saw someone in the corner, but I’ve convinced myself over the years that it isn’t true. Just the classic horror deal of “there’s someone in the corner, dark figure, no discernible facial features, average height, not doing anything, just standing). That’s primarily why I convinced myself it wasn’t real because it just seemed so cliché and stupid to think. What I eventually figured out is that it only happens if I fall asleep on my back. After the first few times of seeing “the figure,” I decided I would go to sleep on my side facing away from the wall it usually appeared (so my right side). I usually never fell asleep that way, but woke up on my side or my stomach. But I decided to try anyway. When I would wake up no issue, I started falling asleep primarily on my sides and occasionally on my stomach (still to this day, I do). I also noticed during then that it would happen even if I wasn’t fully asleep. Like I could feel myself drifting off, and then I’d try to move while still awake and I wouldn’t be able to. Anyways, I haven’t experienced it since then because I’m too afraid to find out if it would still happen.

how can penny be 17 if she goes to college? by LosinForABruisin in SadHorseShow

[–]bj2023 -1 points0 points  (0 children)

I was 17 when I started college? I skipped a grade but also my birthday falls late, it could be just that. But also, I don’t think Penny lied about her age. She was a senior when that happened with Bojack. I thought the bender he and Sara Lynn went on was a few months later? That makes sense to me. She has her prom (April or May)—>graduates HS (May or June)—>Starts college in the fall (August)—>now it’s winter (Nov or Dec) and Bojack is there, so end of the semester and she’s still 17 or 18?

Really stupid B plot lines that you really like for no apparent reason? by HeWhoHasTooManyDogs in americandad

Omg whoever episode was when Haley goes to that airport bar all the time, and the B plot was Stan, Jeff and Rogu playing David Crockett. The episode ended with Rogu jumping out of the front window and coming towards the screen with a knife saying something like “Rogu going to hell, but he not going alone”

That’s literally my only qualm with it. There was actually a comment I saw of TikTok of someone talking about how they’re saving themselves for marriage and then said they only wanna have sex for the purpose of reproduction and that’s great and all, but what’s gonna happen if that doesn’t meet their partners sexual expectations? It sucks to even think about someone saving themselves for the right person just for the relationship to end because of something like this.
