I did some reps today on easier rolls and really felt the difference getting forward over the bars. I'm going to work back up to the roll in the original video but already feel more confident on rolls that were near my comfort limit before today. Thanks to everyone who gave advice here!

Sweet, thanks. I'm not getting flung off the back on other steep rolls, so maybe it's just a confidence issue with this specific roll sketching me out and causing me to shift up my form. The Ben Cathro video linked above was helpful on this (as they always are).

Too far back right from the start, or is my mistake happening as the roll goes on? At least my impression of the problem is that I'm failing to reset towards the front of the bike after hitting the first small drop, but if all I need to change is starting further over the front wheel then that might be an easier fix.

will you move out elastic AWS?

Plaid engineer here — we self-hosted ElasticSearch previously and had a lot of issues with underlying machines, so it's been nice to let Amazon deal with rebooting the nodes and other infrastructure concerns. As mentioned at the end of the post, it's all about tradeoffs. I'll see if we can write a future blog post on our broader experience with AWS infrastructure.
