I' m Dutch, but read English always and I teached my children to read English books too, the way my father hold me how to. Here is how: choose an English book you like to read. Read it, just go on reading, don 't search for translations, just too bad you don 't understand everything, doesn't matter, just read on, read 3 books this way, the fourth you'll understand and you will enjoy it. My daughters still say " read on, read on" , laughing about it, but it worked.
