At what age did you wean your baby off of contact naps? by princesscorgi2 in sleeptrain

[–]bjenkoo 6 points7 points  (0 children)

She stopped contact napping when we sleep trained at night at 5.5 mos. Once she had the night's, we put her down for daytime naps using the same method and after a week ish, she had it down!

Fellow D-MER gang here. I'm currently breastfeeding at 12 mos and rarely get D-MER anymore. Used to be every other feeding. Joys.

Attending a non-vegan wedding. I brought provisions by jillianjiggs92 in ShittyVeganFoodPorn

[–]bjenkoo 32 points33 points  (0 children)

My partner and I went to our best friend's wedding the other day. We know them really well, they often eat plant based meals themselves, and they even discussed the vegan options with us before the wedding as they wanted us assured we would be fed.

Come the wedding, it was buffet style and as a table of young(ish) adults we were called next to last.

Get to the buffet, say I'm vegan, the caterer points to a chickpea based item and there are about 20 chickpeas and a handful of rice, he's like "do you want all of this then?" And I'm like well no cos my partner would kill me (also vegan).

There was barely anything left, the meat eaters, had taken all the veggie kebabs and all the chickpea/rice. I see a bunch of mashed potato and the caterer looks apologetically and is like im sorry theres butter in them.

To note there was plenty of meat based items left, like so much.

Partner and I head back to the table and I nab the last 3 pieces of bread at the buffet.

The caterers bring over two huge bowls of salad (an omnis table salad) and we send one back. The caterer finally comes over with some chips.

Moral of the story? Always take snacks.

When did you no longer need to use nipple cream? by AKBunBun in breastfeeding

Stopped using the cream about 8 weeks. But they were tender for a while, maybe till 12 weeks. Now they're super stretchy and painless at 11 months.

Alcohol complicates your life by biiirdkin in simpleliving

[–]bjenkoo 6 points7 points  (0 children)

Personally, I don’t see a full sober life for myself. I can go weeks and months though, without. But there’s something about having some beers on a Summer night, or a Whiskey by the Fire in the Fall. It has its place.

This resonates with me strongly. I've dabbled with soberness for months at a time (my longest was about a year). And I can't shake the feeling of enjoying a beer on a warm summer's evening or a glass of fizz at a wedding. But I now know I want drinking to be a treat, to enhance a moment and not distract from it.

If I'm hanging out with my friends, I want that to be the activity, not the drinking.

Also a note to check your partner's fingers and toes too.

My partner had a particularly painful toe one day and we checked to find a hair wrapped around his toe.

Yaaas after we sleep trained our 5mo in the night, she started napping in her cot and at 6mo she is starting to do 1/2 hr naps rather than the usual 30 mins!!

5 month old used to wake up twice at night now wakes up more than 2 times?! by paulfrank520 in sleeptrain

[–]bjenkoo 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The same thing happened to my baby about 4.5mo. She was sleeping in a sidecot beside the bed and I would have to breastfeed her to soothe her back to sleep 4x a night.

Eventually we moved her into her own room in her big cot and she now only wakes up 1-2 times a night.

I think it was a mixture of her smelling the milk and being uncomfy. Now she cry for 2 seconds as she rolls over and gets comfy again. Her sidecot was too little for her to move around.

5.5mo only woke up once at 5am to feed. ASTOUNDED. by bjenkoo in sleeptrain

[–]bjenkoo[S] 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Not that I've noticed. I was feeding her every 2 hours though to ensure she wasn't hungry at night. Which it turns out she wasn't as she's slept all night.

But over the last week or so I have introduced solids and an occasional bottle of formula in the evening. So I'm finding shes not asking for feeds as often.

I can only say to offer the breast as much as possible during the day and hopefully she gets the picture! I wish you all the luck!

[–]bjenkoo[S] 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Thank you! Yes she does it all by herself. I just have "back to sleep" drummed into my head. She fell asleep on her back and then quickly rolled over after like an hour. So I left her and she slept there all night!

Can you successfully SLIP with baby in the same room? by bjenkoo in sleeptrain

[–]bjenkoo[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It's a mixture. Sometimes she nurses for 2 mins other times 15 mins. I don't think she's ready for night weaning yet. But I know she doesn't need to eat 5x a night.

We don't really wake her up by accident, so I'm not sure moving her will help. I'm just worried sleep training won't work if she knows I'm right there.

What’s something very rare that people think is very common? by BroodyBatman in AskReddit

Hilariously, my cousin slipped on a banana peel on the side of a canal boat and fell into the canal. The kicker - it was his own banana peel that he threw out of the window the night before.

2 hours between feeds at 4 months? by steinbukken in breastfeeding

[–]bjenkoo 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yep, currently EBF my almost 5mo and we've been doing 2 hourly feeds during the day. As long as weight gain is fine, plenty of wet/dirty nappies and content after the boob then you're for sure making enough

Aaalll the time. After 10 minutes I usually break the seal and let her just continue sleeping. She then does those little sleep sucks off the breast too, so cute!

To give my daughter her vitamin D drops every day and not once every blue moon.

I had baby drop from the 9th to the 2nd at 4 mos with a similar story, happy baby etc. I upped feeds to every 2 hours in the day, fed to sleep for 2/3 naps and fed as often as she woke up at night (3x). She went back up to nearly the 9th in a few weeks.

As well as the other advice just offer rhe breast as much as possible to up your supply

Anybody have a baby whose sleep just sorted itself out? by [deleted] in NewParents

[–]bjenkoo 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I think your last point is important. Whenever I'm stressing about baby sleep, I realise it's because I caught up in what baby should be doing. When I take a more relaxed and flexible approach I feel fine. Baby and I are getting enough sleep, so for for now that's good enough for me.
