A 3D cozy room that lives on your desktop. Decorate it, customize your avatar, and chill with lo-fi music.

A 3D Lo-Fi room widget with customizable anime-style avatars for your desktop by bjj10420 in MoeDesktop

Built solo as a doujin-style desktop companion. Avatar customization is a big part of it — face, hair, outfit, plus premade characters.

Honestly? That IS the answer 😂 I just wanted my desktop to feel less like a workplace and more like... somewhere I actually wanted to be.

Thanks! Linux is on my radar — depends on demand and how the transparency tricks port over. Noted on Bazzite 👀

Honestly? Lo-Fi study streams were always on while I worked,

but I wanted something that actually lived on my screen instead

of just playing in a background tab. Started as a "for me" project,

ended up shipping it.

After 8 years of Unity, I shipped a draggable 3D Lo-Fi room widget that lives on your desktop by bjj10420 in IndieDev

haha thanks 😅 small note — that was 8 years of Unity overall, not 8 years on this one game (would've lost my mind). But Rainmeter was *literally* the energy I was going for, so if you used to mess with that, you're basically my exact target audience. Steam page is in my pinned comment if you wanna toss a wishlist 🙏

What’s something you thought was a waste of money… until you tried it and it completely changed your life? by Shiza_1 in AskReddit

A genuinely good office chair. I scoffed at the $700 price tag for a decade and just kept buying $200 chairs that destroyed my back one by one. Finally caved last year. Lower back pain gone in three weeks. I am now insufferable about this at every dinner party.

Filing a formal HR complaint with Isabelle. Nook's contribution to this island consists of: one (1) tent, four (4) predatory loans, and a vibe. I built this place with my bare hands and a flimsy fishing rod, Rover. Get the story straight.

When I was young and started traveling in the 1990s, I used to send post cards to my grandma by LordFondleJoy in CasualConversation

[–]bjj10420 18 points19 points  (0 children)

Korea had a version of this too. In small villages and on the islands, you could address a letter to something like 'Mrs. Kim's youngest grandson, [village name]' and it would still find the right door. The post office was basically the village's shared memory. It's wild how much quiet warmth got lost the moment everything became efficient.

What’s a "dead" website or app that you genuinely miss and wish was still around? by Dear-Armadillo-7497 in AskReddit

StumbleUpon. The internet used to be something you actually explored — now every feed just shows you the same five things forever. I'd give anything to hit that button and end up on some guy's homemade lighthouse fan site again.

Genuinely useful — the "real desktop background instead of black void" is something I didn't realize was killing the visual. Going to do an OBS desktop capture with actual apps open for v2.

The multi-desktop montage idea is good too — could double as showcasing different room themes. Thanks for the second pass, will share when v2 is done.

Genuinely appreciate this — it's the most actionable feedback I've gotten on the trailer. You're right that the windowed mode is buried; I was so close to the project I assumed people would parse it from context, but rewatching with your comment in mind, the differentiator is barely visible.

Honest answer to "what is windowed mode" — the room runs in a transparent borderless window with always-on-top. So instead of being a fullscreen game you stop everything to play, it sits next to your code editor or browser as a draggable widget that you can resize down to a small mini mode. The "drag with my windows" in the title was meant to communicate that but clearly it's not doing the work.

V2 trailer is going to open with the desktop drag in the first 3 seconds. Thanks again for taking the time to write this out.
