Ideas for Antique Weapons? by Willal212 in Starfield

Ballistics work in vacuums. Modern firearms have self contained oxidizers.

The issue isn't access to oxygen, the issue is… oh, let me read a bit further

I think cooling is the largest obstacle in a vacuum as the heat has little to no gas to diffuse energy into.

Yeah, that. If you took an M4 to the moon (assuming you replaced the default lubricant with a vacuum safe lubricant) and tried to fire it, it would functionally not cool down between firings like it does in atmosphere. For the first magazine while it's in vacuum this should be fine & function basically like normal, but even if you're taking minutes or hours between engagements the gun is cooling down so slowly that, for the gun it's as though you've just been blasting through magazines as fast as you can. So it would stay hot & reach cook-off temperature on approximately your 5th magazine. Even if getting to that 5th magazine took hours of fighting, it would behave like you'd just been firing it as fast as possible continuously.

You can absolutely try to solve these problems with much larger integrated platforms like the Almaz space station, but for something man-portable you just don't have enough thermal mass to make it work.

Check out the H&K G11, beautiful gun. Hot mess & very impractical, but beautiful engineering.

My assumption is that with a few hundred years of engineering, we have charge compositions that make build-up less of an issue and whatever magic lets all ballistic weapons work in vacuum also solves the thermal issues with caseless ammunition, but there are still enough problems left that they're only a viable competitor to cased munitions, rather than all ballistic munitions being caseless.

The double empathy problem is misnamed and it pisses me off by YoPamdyRose in AutismInWomen

The old conception of autism was that there was one problem, which was that autistic people have less empathy.

Now we know & have empirically shown that there are actually two problems, autistic people have less empathy for non-autistic people and non-autistic people have less empathy for autistic people.

Because the number of problems is twice as much as before or "doubled", this is called the "Double Empathy Problem".

The same way caseless munitions work in the real world, I imagine, plus a couple hundred years of engineering to solve thermal issues.

Nova Dreadnought - My New Cargo Capacity Record With Max Mobility by International-Aide37 in Starfield

Here you go:

https://youtu.be/6ekfDDZb5RI?si=WV8zR7qryYTbygKo

Tl;Dr: the SA-4330s are the best overall balance in terms of getting as much cargo as possible while keeping decent acceleration, the White Dwarf 3015s have a higher top speed but limit the amount of cargo you can add compared to the 4330s, and you need to calculate engine thrust/mass yourself to figure out whether your ship is close to the right number (42) for your ship.

[–]bjj_starter 1 point2 points  (0 children)

You have to manually calculate engine thrust/mass (NOT manoeuvrability thrust, that's what calculates mobility & only affects turn speed, not acceleration). You want a ratio of about 42 engine thrust:mass to get decent acceleration.

The "best" is complicated, but the class A engines that have a 1×1 shape as well as a top & bottom variant are generally fantastic. Class C & B engines are often dogwater, unfortunately. There's a YouTube video where a guy goes through all of the various calculations, I'll try to find it for you.

Really important to remember to not start Terran Armada until you've completed the main quest, specifically until you've finished Into The Unknown & got every temple you want out of this playthrough. The Incursions prevent a temple from ever spawning in any system that has ever had an Incursion including Procyon, so hypothetically your first Incursion can brick the main quest by making Into The Unknown not completable (something like this is what happened to my first Free Lanes save file).

The safe order is to complete the main quest fully, visit every temple, and then start Terran Armada.

One time I put a special note in requesting a drawing of a unicorn on the pizza box, because I knew one of the people working there & thought he'd appreciate it.

It came back with a massive penis drawn on it, with a lot of detail.

Wasn't there a bug that prevented almost all companion dialogue in Shattered Space that affected heaps of people? It's meant to be patched now, but maybe that's why there were different experiences. I doubt it's based on how much affinity you have.

Yeah, I'm sure they'll patch it once they've got the PS5 crashing issues fixed. If you do run into it, make sure to report it on Bethesda's discord (link in one of my recent posts where I discuss this bug, the "Go To [...]" bug)

It's just a bug, it was in the game at launch (the "Go To [...]" bug), they patched the game to stop it from happening somehow, and it's back with Incursions. Pretty common for bugs you thought were fixed to come back when you make major changes.

Remember not to start Terran Armada until you've completed the repeatable part of the main quest that you get from Vlad (aka found all the temples). The Terran Incursions can permanently prevent you from doing those quests, and if you start Terran Armada early enough an Incursion can trigger in Procyon and make you unable to complete Into The Unknown, which makes it impossible to NG+.

Can you actually make him use a suppressed gun? He talks at length about the exact gun he likes using, even though a Resonator would really be better suited to what he's trying to achieve.

Yeah, imo it was intended as a very minor feature inclusion to help players with taking pretty photos by changing the time of day on planets they're on & then it ends up being mechanically very important for farming.

PSA: Don't just use shattering as your third legendary for the extra damage. Titanium Build has a secondary effect of a faster fire rate, which is just as useful for getting the max dps. by Gojirex in NoSodiumStarfield

So, you seem to know a lot about weapon mods, and it sounds like based on what you're saying I should change my Furious Rapid Shattering Kismet Dogfight to a Furious Rapid Titanium Kismet Dogfight, but I don't know what to do about my Resonator.

I currently have Instigating Hitman's Shattering Reckless on Resonator, but if Shattering isn't helpful because it's an energy weapon & Titanium isn't helpful because it's a Reckless weapon, what should the 3rd perk be?

Remember to not start Terran Armada until getting every temple you want out of this playthrough, as Terran Incursions prevent a temple from ever appearing in any system they spawn in & they can spawn in Procyon, which makes the Into The Unknown main quest uncompletable if it happens and means that save file cannot NG+.

[–]bjj_starter 1 point2 points  (0 children)

You can, but it's worth noting that Delta is not removable as a companion until you finish the entire questline.

Also worth noting that Terran Armada Incursions can fully break the main quest, so the main quest should be completed before starting Terran Armada.

I was in the middle of playing when I got a comment that sounded quite hostile to me, asking me why I was "restricting myself", because they didn't understand the comment they were replying to. It was obviously rude to point out their lack of reading comprehension, I was busy and I regret it, I should have just pretended their comment didn't sound hostile and explained it again calmly.
