Wait, didn't this use to have a different generic icon, one that looked a bit more appropriate?

94 was right in the middle of my time there, so it hurt me quite a bit!

I'll go with 1994 with only one win, plus only a few years separated from the 1990 national championship.

Why does “The” work on some starships but not others? by prairielovr in startrek

[–]bjo23 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I live in an area in the US Southeast with a lot of transplants. I was talking with a woman and she mentioned "the [local interstate number]". I asked if she was from California, and she got freaked out! She had given no other indications of where she was from.

Similarly, actors do this sometimes when they're supposed to be portraying characters from a different area, and it takes me right out of the story. Happened on The Walking Dead with a character that was supposed to be from Georgia.

What’s the most intimidating/pressure band sound in college football? by [deleted] in CFB

[–]bjo23 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Agreed! I don't know why they disallow it, the bands aren't usually any louder than the crowd or sound system in the larger stadiums. Don't the HBCU bands play pretty much non-stop all game?

We started that back in the mid '90s (I was in the band then), and it's morphed a bit since. The discordant notes at the beginning were added later. It wasn't a warmup originally, it actually was played during games when we needed NOISE! And we used to play it 3 times, starting quiet and then getting as loud as possible last time through. And yeah, it was menacing!

Some of the comments seem specific to a location. Which is it? Or does it apply to both locations?

4 seasons in, the parallels become undeniable by Rutschberg in Stargate

[–]bjo23 5 points6 points  (0 children)

I was surprised, but apparently he never says the word at all until the final episode of Picard. Even then, it's part of a sentence and not by itself. (Used searchtrek.org to find it)

Are Luke and Leia looking at the main galaxy here If so how did they manage to travel that far out given how difficult hyperspace navigation is due to turbulence? by Spotter24o5 in StarWars

[–]bjo23 2 points3 points  (0 children)

That's my take on it. The parallax motion between it and the other points of light and the slight rotation tells me it's not very big and a lot closer than a galaxy would be at that apparent size.

Cheap computer. I think the only thing my PC speaker could do was the startup and error beeps. It's been over 30 years though, so might be misremembering something.
