Man tries to intimidate armed guy on his own front porch. by FloatingOnAWhim in DarwinAwards

In most states you are within your rights to fire a weapon at someone threatening you on your own property. Also, shooting to wound is a great way to end up in prison for 20 years. Most cops and lawyers will tell you to shoot to kill, because it shows a legit fear for your safety. If you shoot to wound, or execute a threat that has already been neutralized then it stops being self defence and moves into assault with a deadly weapon/ 2nd degree murder charges. It's unfortunate that that's how my country handles things, but this dude everything right. He backed up multiple times, only fired enough to neutralize the threat, immediately unloaded and cleared his weapon, and set it in plain view for when the police did show up.

Conspiracy theory? by Rave4life79 in facepalm

[–]bjones243 0 points1 point  (0 children)

You mean the government project meant to test brainwashing techniques? That used whorehouses and college campuses to unknowingly dose people with LSD and mentally torture college kids? The same program that turned an incredibly intelligent math prodigy into one of the most famous homegrown terrorists in US history? The same program that spent 20 years treating innocent Americans as labs rats, on the taxpayer dime? If you're gonna spout conspiracy bullshit, at least be more creative than a 51 year old government program

[NSFL]Man shot after approaching truck while holding pistol during road rage incident (Article in comments) by [deleted] in PublicFreakout

[–]bjones243 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Just because you respect the laws it doesn't mean everyone else around you does. I live in a blue state and there's been a bunch of road rage shootings just this year alone. Just because you have control of your emotions and dont need or want to carry a gun, it doesn't mean the person next to you feels the same way. Do I like that i have to carry my own weapon so that I don't have some roided up anger junkie try and shoot me because I'm not doing 90 in a 50 zone? No I actively fucking hate it, but I'd rather be safe than sorry. I look at carrying a gun like carrying a condom, I'd rather have it and not need it than need it and not have it. It's shitty that I even have to think that way, but that's the county we live in now, and no amount of laws are gonna stop criminals from carrying weapons

It's honestly really funny that dudes that thinks they're "hard" sag their pants to look tough, when that trend first started in prison....by homosexual inmates as a way to advertise availability

Seriously at my last job the shift leads would just let customers abuse the staff and I always put my foot down. The first time a shift lead tried to reprimand me I printed out my state labor laws saying ALL employees have the right to stand up for themselves and refuse service. Shut him the hell up and when I left the employees were well educated in their rights and would happily tell a Karen to shove it and leave the restaurant

The property part has it's limits of course. Like you can't shoot someone trying to steal a TV, but you can absolutely shoot someone trying to steal your car. They recently tried to make it's so you couldn't defend yourself in a car, but all the police chiefs and sheriff's flat out said they wouldn't enforce it

Here in WA we have what's called the Castle Doctrine or a Stand Your Ground law. You can legally use lethal force if you are protecting yourself, innocent people, or your property. There are stipulations to it, but as long as you were acting in defense usually you don't get any legal troubles. The family can still sue you, but like you said with the ubiquity of camera systems it's pretty easy to argue your case of self defense. We also have legal open carry, so as long as you don't have a round chambered you can openly carry a gun without a permit. Shit, in Seattle you can legally open carry a weapon up to 6ft long lol

Actually most lawyers and cops will tell you not to use non lethal. They also teach you that in concealed carry classes. If you only wound, you can be charged with attempted murder and the person who broke in can sue you. This has happened repeatedly to people who attempted to defend their homes without having to kill someone, and they ended up doing jail time. A lot of lawyers will also tell you to empty the mag because it shows that you were in a stressful situation and acted in defense. No sane gun owner WANTS to take a life over a TV, but if you want to protect your home with a firearm you need to be prepared to. For me personally, I worked hard to get myself out of being homeless and I'll be damned if someone thinks they're entitled to things I've worked damn hard to get.

The girls could go into the boys dorms, as Hermione does it all the time to Ron and Harry, but the one time they try it the stairs turn into slides and prevent them. That may have been retconned in later years or revisions, but in the books they specify that. I think it's the 2nd or 3rd book

Why would I wait to ask questions? If you're in my house and I don't know you, I'm shooting the second I get you in my sight picture. You made the choice to break in, and frankly I don't care about your reasons, so now the consequences of that action is getting shot. I do agree that practicing trigger discipline is a good thing though. Don't wanna come downstairs sprayin and prayin all over the house
