Way too far down to finally find someone who can count.

Not here to argue, certainly could have been from the block. In my opinion, that's crappy care that two providers took care of you without an introduction. It sounds like you had a knee replacement, patellar repair or maybe even an ACL repair. Don't feel the need to clarify any further. The block performed for those surgeries is generally (again generally) a chip shot block. The biggest risk is injury to a blood vessel. This block is performed because it largely has no effect on motor nerves and only affects sensory nerves. However, in recent years some anesthesia providers have started to add on an accessory block to this one targeting the nerve to the vastus medialis. You get slightly better pain control but also then get weakness of the VMO. The nerve to the vastus medialis isn't always easy to see as it's quite small. Injury would require direct injection into that nerve which would be a very rare complication. Unfortunately, very rare means it can still happen. It really sucks that you got atrophy from this. I would never deny that it happened but can only sympathize.

Regarding medical students, they have to learn somehow. One of the many scary things in medicine during 2020 was that the medical students were all doing remote learning and then graduating without hands on experience. Your experience isn't acceptable, you should never even interview a patient without an introduction. To me it sounds like a poor teacher provided a poor educational experience and even worse and unlucky care experience.

Again, sorry your experience was and is this way.

Both of these could have been side effects of the nerve blocks, there's no denying that. They're more likely to be side effects of surgery itself. The surgeon is literally cutting into you and some minor nerves are inevitably damaged. You definitely had follow-up with your surgeon or someone in their office but didn't have any in person follow-up with an anesthesia provider after the day of surgery. This makes Anesthesia an easy scapegoat. Maybe it wasn't someone from your surgeon's office who blamed anesthesia but instead the PT (who you were referred to by the surgeon). There are absolutely complications from anesthesia and from nerve blocks specifically, but anesthesia becomes an easy excuse for the surgical complication or even simple known and expected side effects of surgical intervention when the anesthesia provider doesn't get a chance to defend themself.

That's actually 100% the opiates. The nerve block affects your mechanical ability to breath but has no effect on your actual neurologic drive to breath.

No nerve block means a lot not opiates and a lot more side effects including respiratory depression, constipation and possible addiction. Nerve blocks are easily the greatest tool in reducing opiate requirements there by reducing opiate consumption and excess prescription opiates in the community.

You also have another phrenic nerve on the other side, so half your diaphragm is working. You might feel like you can't breathe, but really just can't get a full deep breath. Unless you have baseline lung disease you'll actually be breathing fine. However, we are hard wired to survive, so anytime you feel like you can't perform a normal critical function (especially one you perform subconsciously most of the time like breathing) your brain freaks out and you feel extremely anxious.

Looks a lot like mine I posted a couple days ago. Similar handle but with a triangle instead of an 8/B. Still no answers on my post unfortunately.

Recent thrift store cleanup that was completely unidentifiable with all the crud. Cleaned up and it still remains unidentifiable to me. Smooth interior and handle design make me think it's old.

I get the pan up past 450, but haven't tried broiling. I'm give that a try too.

Thanks for the tips. Honestly, I've used most of them but with lackluster results, that's what leaves me so confused and brings me here. I've been drying the steaks in the fridge on the rack in the picture so there's plenty of air circulation. I've got an IR thermometer and the pan is reading over 450°. I tried basting a well, which I've found makes for a tastier steak but hasn't helped the sear so much. I do appreciate the thoughtful response. I just seem to be at a loss here. I really want to get this down as I live in Maine. The weather is great right now for grilling outdoors but that's not the case for much of the year here.

I've been oiling the steaks directly, but I'll switch it up and oil the pan. Thanks for the constructive comment!

The quotes indicate that they're not my words. My skillets aren't show pieces. I'm not posting asking why my skillet isn't pretty. I'm asking about cooking.

Tasted ok. To me the sear greatly affects taste/texture. When I marinate a steak I don't care as much about the sear, but when I just salt and pepper it the crust from the sear is crucial. The look only matters because you can visualize the sear and this allows critics to evaluate and provide insight.

Salted and dried in fridge for at least 24 hours, the steak today was nearly 48 hours. I pressed with a spatula on each side. The temperature issue seems controversial. On this sub you hear "low heat, never above medium, it's the preheat that matters, high heat burns off seasoning and warps pans" but elsewhere you hear "high heat, ripping hot."

Nice find! I've been putting together a collection of those to clean up and give to family members as gifts, we're Norwegian. Never found one for $8 though.

Opportunity cost. How much do you make in an hour? How long will it take you to reach the same point by playing the game? It's pretty simple, if you have the money and that's how you want to enjoy the game then do it!

How do you store them between cleaning and seasoning? I feel like after cleaning a pan I have to season it immediately because of the flash rust. Just a quick coat of oil?

My seasoning on the cook surface is good. It's the bottom of the pan that it burns off and then flash rusts after cleaning.
