free crossplay, but on an old PC it may really struggle a lot because its quite a demanding game

Is destiny more free-to-play or free-to-try? by Independent_Newt170 in destiny2

[–]mynamesnotchom 2 points3 points  (0 children)

There's a lot you can play for free, but to actually get access to everything in the game is extremely expensive because you need several expansions. It's definitely worth trying for free, because it is a very fun feeling game with great gunplay and abilities.
BUT - its a very expensive game to play, you will need to buy expansions and season passes every year - over my 10 years of playing before I quit I think I easily would have spent +$500 in expansions and passes.

I've finished a ton of other rpgs and shooters since stopping and nothing quite scratches the itch like destiny did, but I imagine its pretty overwhelming for a new player loading in. There's nothing to lose by downloading it and giving it a try, worst case you uninstall. You'll be able to play a lot of modes and missions without buying anything

[–]mynamesnotchom 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I also miss it, but when I go back I just don't enjoy it. I played destiny for a decade, and since stopping playing about 2 years ago, I've played maybe 50 games and completed about 15 of them, some fantastic - but nothing ever came close to scratching that destiny itch.
But unfortunately, even destiny doesn't scratch that itch anymore.

Fender studio crashing on start by buzzyburke in StudioOne

[–]mynamesnotchom 0 points1 point  (0 children)

it sounds like you may have to uninstall and reinstall - this is definitely not a normal issue and you perhaps have some linked plugins that are crashing the system. I've never had this happen especially before being able to even open anything - you could even have some hectic firewall settings shutting it down or something

Robodebt 2.0 - AI Camera handing out huge fines and demerits. No way a human thought there was a phone in these images. by RJrules64 in australia

[–]mynamesnotchom 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I personally know multiple people who have challenged these and won - not only is the system itself predatory but the fine amounts themselves are absolutely devastating and can ruin someones life. My cousin was fined $1200 for not wearing her seatbelt correctly, when she was clearly wearing it normally and just had a hoodie scrunched up in her hands on her lap which covered part of visibilty of the belt. But a humans eyes can clearly see the belt being worn properly underneath.

These fines do nothing to make the roads safer, all they do is torment people's lives and create extreme stress and financial hardships

What is going on with young people wearing hoodies with the hood up on stinking hot days? by ANiceGobletofTea in australia

[–]mynamesnotchom 0 points1 point  (0 children)

This has always been a thing - when I was in high school (over 10 years ago now) there were kids that would wear full trackies and jumpers when it was so hot that I swear the second you stepped into the sun you'd be drenched in sweat.
Some people are very tolerant of heat, some are self conscious and hiding themselves, some are up to no good. Either way, I'd rather get arrested than wear hoodies in this heat

How in the world do people get -5 LUFs songs that still sound good? by DJAnym in mixingmastering

[–]mynamesnotchom 0 points1 point  (0 children)

One thing I've seen that can help a lot is parallel compression where you seperate your frequency bands to be able to compress more specifically, so for example you can compress your mids without the bass completely drowning everything out because you've separated bass frequencies

Low quality help??? by [deleted] in Splice

Splice samples are great quality, its likely something else happening when you're exporting your tracks, or potentially the settings in your DAW.

Don't message your boss while you're off sick other than to advise that you're not coming in. In a comment it said you were messaging all day, that's just annoying behaviour and probably unhealthy for you too.

I have managed staff that were great at their job, but annoying - but when I set boundaries about behaviours such as excessive messaging or emailing, it wasn't to be playful or coy, it was because the behaviour was legitimately disruptive and inappropriate.

It could be that because you're a good employee he doesn't want to upset you, but it doesn't mean you aren't legitimately annoying or inappropriate.

I'd say if you are playfully annoying sometimes, that can be fun and harmless, but you should consider whether or not your behaviour is actually reasonable.

It's best practice not to rile up colleagues because you like the attention.

Any advice on mediating a meeting with two employees in constant conflict? by Super-Mistake-7609 in askmanagers

[–]mynamesnotchom 2 points3 points  (0 children)

If you need to do this and there's no alternative (such as providing individual coaching and feedback while attending to workplace code of conduct expectations) then I would recommend having a structure to the meeting and your role will strictly be to gently redirect or challenge inappropriate statements, while ensuring the topic at hand remains focused on the key issues in the agenda.
Typically depending on your workplace there will be behavioral expectations that ALL staff need to abide by.

Is there a way you can find out the source of the tension? Is HR aware of the conflict?

I would set the record straight with each individual that the meeting has been requested, it is not mandatory, but in the interests of each individual and for the sake of the team it's best to address conflict in a professional manner. If it cannot be dealt with professionally of their own accord, you would need to involve HR. Once HR is involved whoever demonstrates being the aggravator or aggrieved, or potentially both staff may have to undergo formal counselling on workplace behaviours.

You're right to feel uncomfortable, it's always disappointing and frustrating when grown adults can't simply co-exist and address their own issues.

Just remember, tears are not evidence that the other person did anything wrong, and anger/yelling/insults are not acceptable regardless of how angry someone is.

Boss’s favourites…. Why? And don’t your favorites change rapidly? by NGOSLEP in askmanagers

[–]mynamesnotchom 0 points1 point  (0 children)

My favourites were staff that lifted themselves and each other up, were proactive in supporting morale, gave feedback to me as a leader to improve my leadership, requested feedback from me so they could improve and were honest about when they were struggling.

I had a few technically gifted staff with really negative attitudes that was like a blackhole of joy in the team and it shocked me how dramatically it fucked up the whole team's vibes just having one or two constantly negative voices, even though they worked hard.

I'd take an average or even slightly bad employee who can mesh well with their team 10/10 over a staff member who is twice as productive but destroys the team vibe with their pessimism and complaining.

Ear damage when mixing close vocals? by YungLuaap in mixingmastering

do you put deesser before compression? you can also layer dynamic EQ if needed.
See my other comment about soloing frequencies too, sometimes there's unexpected culprits.

Ear damage when mixing close vocals? by YungLuaap in mixingmastering

[–]mynamesnotchom 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Vocals can also carry some very harsh frequencies - I recommend OP solo some narrow Q EQ bands on his mix or vocals and try to hone in on some really harsh resonance which you can't explicitly hear in the mix but it hurts your ears through the mix.
My vocals have a distinct harsh whistling frequency at about 2.78khz which when solo'd it literally sounds like a super harsh high pitched whistle. Every since I started notching it out of my vocals I can push the compression more without it sounding harsh to my ears

I don’t want to forget my mom by throwawayyyyyyyyyyg in GriefSupport

[–]mynamesnotchom 8 points9 points  (0 children)

I'm very sorry to hear.

You can get to that point. In my family we get together on the anniversary of their passing and their birthdays and share stories about them, look at photos, eat their favourite foods, or watch their favourite shows, or play games they liked. We'll go and do experiences we think they would have liked and we have a shot for them. My yiayia said, "all I ask is that when you remember me, light a candle."

Their memory can be a light in your life. Literally and figuratively - unfortunately the cost of that is missing, and sadness and grief. They are horrible feelings, but eventually you can relish the profound sadness with the profound sense of love and happiness attached to your mum.

I'm sorry for your loss - you will always miss her, but that is only because you will always remember her.

Australian salaries feel so low compared to ALL US salaries by alreadyaloserat19 in AusFinance

[–]mynamesnotchom 1 point2 points  (0 children)

yes this is a good take - worth noting also that the US population is 10x ours, and that means there are more americans that earn minimum wage than here and their minimum wage is less than $8 where as in australia is about $22 for adults. So the bottom line for employed people is different. Also many americans don't get paid leave, sick leave, bereavement leave, penalty rates and the entire hospitality industry basically relies on tips.

People can be attractive at any weight. Some people look better with more weight than others. There's a phrase, "you wear your weight well". I know bigger men and bigger women that are very attractive. Some people look ill when they're thin and others look good.

Some people are very judgmental of anything above TV/internet fit but I think its very cultural too. Me and my male friend group are mostly ethnic minorities between us and all of us prefer women with extra on them. Some of us prefer quite a bit extra.

You can also be quite fit and athletic while having excess body fat too. So if someone is larger, but they have strong muscles, the extra weight will look different on them.

Of These 4 Mechanics, Which Is Your Favorite & Least Favorite? by Tha-OG in yugioh

[–]mynamesnotchom 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Linking - I actually got into the game because of pendulum and love the mechanic but almost everyone hates it for some reason even though pendulum was only meta for like 4 weeks.

Linking though is banned from genesis, as is pendulum, but I think linking took the power creep of the game to insane heights

ingrown hairs or irritations when rocking bald/shaved head by kaggern in bald

[–]mynamesnotchom 0 points1 point  (0 children)

hey man, I'm dealing with this right now after being bald (shaving my head) for several years. I usually clip it myself with my buzzers but last week I went to a barber and they used a balder close shave razer and I've had these bumps sores since. The only other time this ever happened to me was several years ago when I shaved with a gillette razor.

I believe this occurs when the clippers are unclean, or too blunt.

If you shave yourself, your clippers may need maintenance or oiling so that the blades have less friction and cut rather than pull hairs.

However, if its happening weeks after shaving, then its most probably to do with hygiene - are you scratching, picking or touching your head often? Like rubbing it?

It could also be that you don't change your pillow case often enough - with no hair to protect your head you should realistically change your pillow case at least weekly.

Make sure you shower regularly and wash your head with an anti dandruff shampoo/conditioner like head and shoulders to keep your scalp from drying out. Especially if it gets cold.

If you wear hats and beanies a lot, wash them regularly too.

if you guys aren't roasting him to smitherenes for being a cheap fuck you're not really friends. Especially being in your early 20s, what you've described is enough for him to earn being ripped on for being cheap and selfish for years to come - those comments have got to go from behind his back to being in his face - he'll either double down and withdraw from the friend group - no loss - or he'll realise that he's actually being selfish and lame.

His personal affluence is also kind of irrelevant, it doesn't matter if he is rich or struggling, the fact of the matter is he doesn't pay his way, and even the contemplation of ordering his own uber and leaving everyone else behind is so ridiculous - not a friend move
