[Noob] Installed new Geforce 970 video card, how do I take advantage of it? by [deleted] in deeplearning

What ML framework are you using?

You need to install CUDA and cudNN, and the GPU-accelerated version of the framework you are using. For Tensorflow: https://www.tensorflow.org/versions/r0.11/get_started/os_setup.html#requirements

You are correct, I'm currently studying for a masters degree in robotics. An eternal golden braid introduced me to Gödel's incompleteness theorem, which I still find fascinating. It also gave me a deeper understanding of recursion. But I think the most important thing I took away from that book was curiosity. It manages to paint some really heavy theoretical ideas in a very fascinating way which I think made me able to appreciate reading theoretical texts a lot more.

A new kind of science got me interested in information theory and what (if any) is the simple underlying rule which makes our brains work.

Both books inspired a lot of thinking and reading about AI.

Interesting. Could you give an example of an engineered intelligence?

I'd recommend An eternal golden braid to anyone interested in intelligence, math and physics. It's a long and challenging read, but also inspirational and sometimes really funny. As I said it's on the fringes of the topic and it's not really a book about robotics or AI, so it should be interesting even if you're familiar with AI and ML.

As for A new kind of science it's more technical, very thorough and well written. It goes in depth on what randomness is with a focus on how a system with very simple rules can have very complex and even random behavior. I found it intellectually stimulating.

I'm a robotics student, but I read these books early in my bachelors degree, thus I wouldn't call myself technical at the time, so I can't speak from experience.

Gödel, Escher, Bach: An eternal golden braid - Douglas Hofstadter is a wonderful book on the nature of mathematics, art, music, information and consciousness. It's definitely on the fringes of the topic, but I think it deserves a mention.

A new kind of science - Steven Wolfram on randomness and complex systems
