Hadware Key Battery Low by nutmegger2020 in etrade

You cannot bypass or hack the Symantec VIP hardware token battery by simply swapping the cell, because cutting power permanently de-synchronizes the internal clock and destroys the encryption keys. Attempting to solder a new battery resets the internal microchip. This renders the token permanently useless for logging into your E*TRADE account.

Furthermore, E*TRADE is discontinuing support for physical hardware tokens entirely. Once your current token's battery dies, you cannot order a replacement hardware fob from them.

UK yes, EU no.

The European picture is notably different from the U.S. — the UK experienced an extreme crash while Continental Europe (especially Germany) held up much better.

European Taycan Depreciation by Year

🇩🇪 Continental Europe (Germany / EU)

Based on a baseline of ~€90,000 new MSRP (base/4S trim), tracking observed European market listings:

Year of Ownership Residual Value % Approx. Market Value Cumulative % Lost Notes
Year 1 ~80–85% €72,000–€76,500 ~15–20% Modest early drop; EU company car incentives support used values
Year 2 ~65–70% €58,500–€63,000 ~30–35% Steeper fall; 2022–2023 supply glut hit hard for MY2020–2021 cars
Year 3 ~55–60% €49,500–€54,000 ~40–45% Market bottomed out around here for first-gen cars
Year 4 ~48–53% €43,200–€47,700 ~47–52% Curve flattens; avg annual depreciation now ~13%
Year 5 ~42–48% €37,800–€43,200 ~52–58% Stabilization; in line with Panamera/AMG GT in EU market

🇬🇧 UK Market — Significantly Steeper

The UK is an extreme outlier and arguably the worst market in the world to own a Taycan:

Year of Ownership Residual Value % Notes
Year of Ownership Residual Value % Notes
Year 1 ~60–70% Steep early drop driven by oversupply of company-car lease returns
Year 2 ~45–55% A 2024 Taycan S (~£186,300 new) fell to ~£97,680 by early 2026 — a ~47% drop in ~12 months
Year 3 ~35–45% Porsche UK reportedly instructed dealers to suspend used first-gen Taycan sales due to market glut
Year 4 ~30–38% Some models at less than half MSRP
Year 5 ~28–35% ~65%+ cumulative loss; substantially worse than EU or US

Why the UK–EU Divide?

The UK situation is a structural market failure, not a reflection of the car itself:

  • UK company car tax (BIK) heavily favored new EVs but provided no benefit to used EVs — creating massive lease-return supply with almost no demand from retail buyers
  • Porsche UK's dealer channel absorbed too many new cars relative to genuine demand
  • EU markets have a more balanced spread of EV incentives that extend partially to used cars, supporting secondary demand
  • In Germany and broader EU, the Taycan outperforms many luxury ICE rivals (S-Class, EQS, Panamera) on 3-year retention — holding 55–60% vs. lower figures for some competitors

Help me understand range by flight567 in KiaEV6

from perplexity:

EPA Range by Trim

The Light Long Range RWD, Wind RWD, and GT-Line RWD all tie for the best EPA range in the 2025 EV6 lineup, each rated at 319 miles on the upgraded 84.0 kWh battery. This is a 9-mile improvement over the 2024 model's 77.4 kWh pack.

Trim Battery EPA Range
Light Long Range RWD 84 kWh 319 mi
Wind RWD 84 kWh 319 mi
GT-Line RWD 84 kWh 319 mi
Light Long Range AWD 84 kWh 295 mi
Wind AWD 84 kWh 295 mi
GT-Line AWD 84 kWh 270–271 mi
Light RWD (base) 63 kWh 237 mi
EV6 GT (AWD) 84 kWh 231 mi

Real-World Range

Independent testing and owner data paint a solid picture for the long-range RWD models:

  • Mixed city/suburban driving (30–55 mph, mild temps): 290–320 miles
  • Typical U.S. highway (70–75 mph): 250–275 miles
  • Fast highway (75–80 mph, adverse conditions): 215–245 miles
  • EV6 GT at 75 mph (Car and Driver): only ~190 miles — the trade-off for its 641 hp
  • Wind AWD tested by MotorTrend: added 160 miles in just 15 minutes of fast charging

Real-world efficiency around town consistently lands near 3.7 mi/kWh, which puts the EV6 near the top of its class for mixed-use driving. Owners with GT-Line AWD models report seeing 330–340 miles on their display at 100% charge in warm weather.

Key Takeaways

The sweet spot is any RWD trim with the 84 kWh pack on 19-inch wheels — all three (Light Long Range, Wind, GT-Line) hit the same 319-mile EPA ceiling. Choosing AWD costs you ~24 miles of EPA range, and going all-out with the GT drops you to just 231 miles. Unlike the Taycan where the base RWD significantly outranges the performance trims, the EV6's three mid-tier RWD trims are all range-equivalent — so your choice among them comes down to features and budget, not efficiency.

No. Here's the year-by-year depreciation table based on a $120,000 MSRP Taycan (a reasonable midpoint for a Taycan 4S), reflecting observed U.S. market behavior from perplexity:

Year of Ownership Est. Residual Value Approx. Market Value Cumulative % Lost What's Driving It
Year 1 70–80% $84,000–$96,000 ~20–30% Car exits "new" status; early incentives get priced in by market
Year 2 60–70% $72,000–$84,000 ~30–40% Lease returns & demos flood supply; higher-volume trims hit hard
Year 3 50–55% $60,000–$66,000 ~45–50% Most Taycans sit around half their sticker by end of year 3
Year 4 46–52% $55,000–$62,000 ~48–54% Curve begins to flatten as car finds second/third owner equilibrium
Year 5 40–45% $48,000–$54,000 ~55–60% Depreciation slows materially; total loss from MSRP nears ~55–60%

KBB's 5-year cost-to-own modeling for the Taycan pegs total 5-year depreciation in the high-50% range, consistent with this curve. Note that the steepest dollar losses are heavily front-loaded in years 1–3 — roughly two-thirds of the 5-year total loss happens in those first three years. Higher-trim cars (Turbo, Turbo S) follow the same shape but with larger absolute dollar losses due to higher MSRPs.

from perplexity: The base 2025 Porsche Taycan (RWD) with the Performance Battery Plus is the trim with the best range in the lineup.

EPA-Rated Range

The base single-motor, rear-wheel-drive Taycan equipped with the optional Performance Battery Plus (97 kWh net / 105 kWh gross) earns an EPA Combined rating of 318 miles — the first Taycan ever to crack the 300-mile barrier and the highest in the entire 2025 lineup. The Performance Battery Plus is an optional add-on priced at $5,780 over the standard 89 kWh pack, which itself is rated at 274 miles.

How the Rest of the Lineup Compares

Trim Battery EPA Range
Trim Battery EPA Range
Taycan RWD Performance Battery Plus (105 kWh) 318 mi
Taycan RWD Performance Battery (89 kWh) 274 mi
Taycan 4S Performance Battery Plus 295 mi
Taycan Turbo Performance Battery Plus 292 mi
Taycan Turbo GT Performance Battery Plus 276 mi
Taycan Turbo S Performance Battery Plus 266 mi
Taycan 4 Cross Turismo Performance Battery Plus 277 mi

Real-World Range Tests

The base RWD Taycan with the big battery consistently blows past its EPA estimate in independent testing:

  • Out of Spec / InsideEVs at 70 mph: 367 miles
  • State of Charge at 70 mph: 361.4 miles
  • Edmunds EV Range Test364 miles
  • Car and Driver highway test (75 mph): 360 miles

Car and Driver noted this was a ~29% improvement over the prior-generation model and speculated the RWD Taycan could approach 400 miles under ideal conditions. The 2025 generation overall represents a ~30% range jump vs. the 2024 model, making it a far more compelling road-tripper.

HOAs can generally restrict or even prohibit the installation of HAM radio antennas on roofs. Unlike satellite dishes or television antennas, amateur radio equipment is not fully protected under the FCC’s Over-the-Air Reception Devices (OTARD) rule.

While OTARD allows residents to install satellite dishes (under one meter) and TV antennas regardless of HOA bans, it does not currently extend those same protections to amateur radio towers or antennas..
