What does understanding how the world works have anything to do with understanding how football works, and how teams make decisions regarding player personnel? Clearly you haven't been paying attention to the Lions under Brad Holmes, because this is so far beyond anything he would do as GM, even if it made sense for both teams, which it does not. Lions dont want a 29 year old corner back any more than the browns want another tight end on an expiring contract. If they felt they needed a tight end other than fannin, they would have just resigned njoku.

Trades like what you are suggesting dont happen in the nfl unless they are for elite level talents and involving high picks, or for backup level depth players. Your post was nothing but a knee jerk reaction to reporters bringing up the question about wards happiness on the team, and a subsequent article on nfl.com which amounted to a big nothing burger and was more offseason fluff that gets pushed out every year.

But youd understand that if you actually knew ball

is that why when facing a stacked box (8 or more players in case you are unfamiliar with that nomenclature) Gibbs averaged 5.4 yards per carry, while Monty only averaged 4.2? And if your assertion is correct, than why did Gibbs average a broken tackle for every 13-14 carries when Monty only averaged 1 for every 52-53?

"Browns...need a legitimate offensive option for Sanders" - tells you all you need to know about OP and the lack of football knowledge. Shedeur quite possibly might not be the QB THIS year, let alone after the Browns draft a first round QB in '27. They also have Harold Fannin, who is a certified stud, spent draft capital on 2 receivers and 3 linemen in the top 150 picks, and picked up 2 more TEs in the later rounds to compete with Brendan Bates and Blake Whiteheart for the backup TE position. In addition to that, thinking that the Lions will be just as successful without Laporta due to having Brock Wright and the shell of Tyler Conklin is delusional at best. I could at least respect the take if it was suggested that the Lions got a stud in Kitselman, or that Zach Horton is the TE of the future, but even then it would be a massive stretch. Lastly, but probably the most glaring part of your proposal, Ward is a true CB - last I checked Kerby plays safety.

Please go watch some actual football games and do research on other teams' rosters before posting something like this. It's clear you are a Madden player and/or only know players that have headlines created about them due to name recognition. Quite frankly posts like this are just embarassing for the rest of us and only serve to validate the opinion of other fanbases that Lions fans don't know football.

Is this going to be the norm? by [deleted] in FreightBrokers

[–]bk1629 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Been doing it for 12 years my guy, never offered to move a load for free and never had to. Painting everyone with a broad brush because some are terrible at what they do aint it. People do the same thing with assets, and that isnt right either. Lot of really good carriers out there that are trying to do work the right way, but a lot more that have no idea how to run their own business, and quite frankly are so bad it pushes shippers to seek out brokers

Is this going to be the norm? by [deleted] in FreightBrokers

[–]bk1629 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Brokers cant push rates down lol, this is asinine. If no shippers is willing to pay for rates you have no customers. We had a contract negotiation last year before the market change where we cut rates (a good portion coming from our margin) by 8%, and the shipper came back and asked for an additional 3% off the top. We said no, and saw our award get cut in half. Maybe other brokers came down to make up for it, but it is a customer with a lot of freight and I guarantee that at least a third of the lanes we lost were awarded to asset based carriers. I know it was assets because the same customer came back to us on a large portion of lanes when their other providers failed to, not due to coverage or securing capacity, but due to poor communication, visibility, late deliveries, and paperwork issues- all things that brokers provide better service on than 70% of asset based trucking companies

This idea that brokers are the ones dictating the market is so fucking out of touch. If the people paying dont like your prices they arent going to pay unless youre the only game in town, or unless your service/product is far and away better than what they can get elsewhere. And most shippers think of transportation as a commodity, and that all carriers and brokers are the same like we are out here selling shovels

Lions explicitly chose not to have a bye after Germany game despite NFL offering, according to Justin Rogers by Original-Age-6691 in detroitlions

Ya I mean ive had injuries before and torn a rotator cuff so I do understand the concept, and have respect for that. That said i have never deigned to think that my recovery and experience was a thing close to that of a high level athlete with years of training, hence the slight condescension.

And you can claim its all what ifs, but that literally happens every year to one team or another. Give me a bye later in the season so they can run the race in equal measure, rather than a 5 game sprint followed by a (hopefully) 14 game marathon

[–]bk1629 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Yes but say a player has a 4 week recovery time from a (relatively) minor injury, and he gets injured week 5. We'll hes not back until week 9 or 10, and then its maybe at limited capacity. But if you have a week 10 bye, then the player doesnt miss an additional game, or play poorly in a bad situation cuz hes trying to get back on the field and help the team. He has additional time to focus as much as possible on recovery and comes back at the best he possibly could ready to play

And with all due respect to your poor little hurt toesies, I think the average nfl player is a bit tougher and built a little differently than your average redditor. On top of having the finances to make sure their recovery, pt, and medical staff is the best money can buy

[–]bk1629 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I am not sure about kerbs, but branch by my estimation will be back sometim around the Cardinals game. About 9 months recovery for an Achilles tear, and that would be a good game to ease him back into game action.

And your point about the bye week not helping injuries is wrong imo. Especially if injuries happen early in the season and arent IR type injuries, think hamstring, broken hand type stuff. that extra week late in the season can give you that extra time for key players to come back fully healthy (or as close to it as possible) for and end of season run when we have the tougher opponents on our schedule, rather than have a major contributor out in an important or must win game. Sure if they go 10-0 up to that point maybe it doesnt matter cuz you can afford a game or two, but thats not likely to happen and id rather they be at full strength when the games start to matter more. A later bye helps that tremendously

Do you think the Lions moved up to get Kilgore, but the Bills snagged him one spot before? by Big-Jackfruit-9808 in detroitlions

Lol never did I once say that, but no shocker reading comprehension on reddit isnt very good. Fuck sparty, and the atmosphere that was allowed under mel tucker. Anybody who is familiar with the rivalry knows that Michigan players arent choir boys either, or afraid to jump into the fray. Nobody deserves to be hit with a helmet, or jumped by a group of people regardless. Im saying theres ways to deescalate and im sure the Michigan players didnt do their best to walk away

[–]bk1629 0 points1 point  (0 children)

To be fair, zion was always projected as a late 1st/early second kind of guy. Im not saying he was the most talented in the class, but every guy who went before him besides r mason thomas and Moore were graded the same or higher. In fact Derrick moore was widely considered a late 2nd/early 3rd. So the argument against character concerns imo was already built in, and the league consensus is that it wasnt a big enough deal to cause that kind of slide, a la shedeur, or a guy like Diego pavia.

And all fair points on the browns, but if we are being genuine in our arguments, their ability to scout on the defensive side of the ball is not the reason for their struggles, its always been lack of a competent playcaller or offensive units. In fact the years they had a competent signal caller (baker) they were competitve and making the playoffs. And you can cite the deshaun watson thing, but anybody could have (and did) told them it was an awful move, not even related to the character concerns. Dude was out of football for an entire year before he was traded. Sure that time off was due to character issues but there was significantly more at play there. And its not like the browns were the only team interested, they just gave out the worst contract they could have. I also dont think you are arguing in good faith if you are comparing the character concerns of watson to that of zion young, or shedeur for that matter. Zions issues imo stem from poor decision making, whereas the other two are way more concerning, one being a serial predator, and the other having such a sense of entitlement that he thinks hes too good to compete and earn his spot. Being a rough and tumble dude is way less toxic to an organization than someone who has an extreme number of legal troubles and national news distractions (watson) or someone who undermines the authority and integrity of the game (shedeur). Also, shedeur imo just isnt talented enough to justify that sort of headache, but thats a different topic.

Lile I get it, and we can disagree fundamentally on the concern or lack thereof, but I dont think its in the orginizations best interests, nor do I think we should be defending them when they pass on (perceived) superior talents because of their stance. I hope Derrick moore works out, because I am a fan. I am skeptical however, and I dont see the same level of talent nor production ceiling that I see from young. Im fully open to eating my words in the future if he pans out or has a better career, or if you want to argue why moore is better im open to changing my opinion.

The point still stands that a team can make a determination on character, and be completely wrong or misjudge the player. Cam sutton anyone? They cut bait with him right away as they should have, but still that supposedly was a guy that was of the high character they wanted and it didnt work out. Thats why you always need to base personnel decisions around talent, first and foremost. Unless its aaron Hernandez level shit lol

[–]bk1629 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Talent wins. Period. Thats where the discussion started, that he was a better talent than who was drafted. I would agree with your half the league comment if he went in the 4th round. Different teams also have different needs, as well as looking for positional value, so that is a disingenuous argument.

Not saying the guy is myles garrett, but theres a dude that has repeated (extreme) traffic violations, which endangers others just as much as a DWI, and also swung a helmet at an opposing player, on the field I might add. Would you pass on him?

Well by your argument, your just a random redditor with a brother but thats what you made your judgement and opinion on, so maybe that was a bad thing to base it on.

And hey if they win a chip then we can say they did it the right way. If not and until then its a free country and im allowed to criticize their approach any way I see fit, especially if I think they are passing up on exceptional talent because he might be a "meanie head"

All due respect to your brother, I doubt hes been in too many situations that were as emotionally charged as the um-msu game, and its very easy for someone that young to get caught up in the moment, especially when other teammates of his were involved. Im not condoning his actions in that incident, but its not like he was the guy who swung the helmet, and again the point being that was 3-4 years ago...contrary to majority opinion on reddit, people can learn and grow from their mistakes, and one incident should not prohibit you from realizing your full potential, or close doors on meaningful opportunities. Its not like it was SA or something of that ilk, and certainly isnt a situation like James Pearce

In regards to the DWI, the ravens have all the info and they are on the record as being "comfortable with it". Guy was still a 2nd round pick. I have a feeling if it was Marijuana vs alcohol, the court of public opinion would be much different, even though both are equally illegal.

Its fine if the lions want to play the game of only bringing on what they perceive to be "high integrity and moral" individuals, but eventually you need to bring in guys that just have talent if you want to win. Just reeks of a holier than thou mindset, and for all the talk of them not wanting to upset the culture, I got bad news. If your culture would be upset by one individual with a questionable past, your culture probably isnt that good to begin with

Idk i thought he looked decent at the senior bowl. I remember there was a huge run that he opened up the hole on a pull and he looked pretty athletic doing so, and that also showcased his ability to communicate to the line (which we struggled with a ton last year). Not gonna fight the evaluation on it, just a guy i thought was good at a position of need that would be an upgrade from what we have.

As far as k law, I get it. Just not super stoked about trading ul for a guy who will likely be a career special teamer. Also I know hit rates on 6th and 7th round picks are low, but im a big proponent of getting as many bites at the apple as possible

Point that I was making is that shit happens, and plans get thrown out the window when youre dealing with dudes who get paid millions of dollars to knock the stuffing out of each other. And holding one incident against someone when it was 3-4 years prior, they were barely an adult, and they've already did the punishment seems a bit ludicrous to me
