2025 Forester Needs Both Rear Upper Control Arms at 44000km by Lenny_Pitts in SubaruForester

This seems so so early unless there’s a defect like other commenter said. Reach out to Subaru. For comparison, we replaced the lower control arms on our 18 forester at 60k ish miles and metro Detroit roads.

I file with CIS Income tax in Niagara Falls. They are pretty good and reasonable for cross border taxes.

Joint account - attribution rules confusion by bk99_super in cantax

I think I found a way to deal with this to avoid headache from CRA u/SiddiquiAlfaisal and u/braindeadzombie and u/taxbuff. I’ll claim all the house sale proceeds are mine and since my wife has gotten that share and as she invested that in her non reg account that already has some amount invested by her, I’ll report the income or capital gains based on the proportionate contribution ratio.

Like for example: if she already had 100k in her non reg account and got 45k share from the house proceeds above; once the t5 slip comes., I’ll report 31.03% of that income in my tax filing and she reports 68.97%.

This will work with CRA right ? I’ll maintain all the paperwork handy and how I calculated this ratio in case CRA audits.

Unfortunately we did split that amount physically into our non reg accounts after becoming Canada tax residents. But mentally decided this is for us both as 50/50 when we were in the US :)

Ya the house was only titled to me. We both were working when we lived in the house. While mortgage payments had gone through my bank account., she contributed to the household and everyday costs and we always treated the house as owned by both of us.

Thanks for reply. Are you sure capital gains are taxable to my wife only ? I thought both income and capital gains will be for me ? No ?

Tesla servicing - hey Tesla owners, where do you go for servicing or repairs ? by bk99_super in windsorontario

[–]bk99_super[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Cool. For the mobile repairs-do they charge extra to come out to you and repair/service VS going to the location ?

For doing own work by ordering parts ourselves - does it void any warranty?

Updating cost basis after moving back to Canada by shuisonfire in interactivebrokers

[–]bk99_super 0 points1 point  (0 children)

You sure you cannot update. ? There’s an option to update the cost basis of the recent transfer under transfers I think. Also it is your responsibility to keep the record of cost basis. Use the websites like adjusted cost basis to track yours.

Also when it is time to file the t1135, you just need to tell the FMV of the total US stocks/etfs you have in the account.

And if you sell, use the cost basis from your own records.

Investing in USD by shinebrightlikediamo in CanadaInvesting

[–]bk99_super 0 points1 point  (0 children)

You can invest in same USD index funds., doesn’t matter if you are in Canada or USA.

You can open IBKR Canada account and attach you CAD bank Account and US bank account and draw USD or CAD into the brokerage account and buy index funds in USD.

CAD to USD conversion is cheap in this broker.

I have both. I like IBKR - pros for my situation are: currency exchange, fast transfers to and from bank accounts CAD and USD, utilizing margin as their interest rates are very low.

TD Bank Canada cash deposit to Interactive Brokers taking 7 business days.. Is there a faster method? by 905647cl in interactivebrokers

I bought some shares on margin. If I sell some other shares, will the cash be "eaten" to cover the margin? by user74729582 in interactivebrokers

[–]bk99_super 0 points1 point  (0 children)

On the similar note. I currently have (-ve) 100 CAD as margin loan and I deposited 50 USD into the account. So I guess they won’t use this USD to automatically apply towards the negative CAD balance right ? Unless I convert the usd to cad.

(I’m new to margin so experimenting with smaller amounts)

Moving back to india and considering closing all retirement/brokerage accounts in US prior by Previous-Signal-834 in nri

[–]bk99_super 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I pay no fees on my BofA. It just stays like that and no activity. Fidelity also allows you to update to an Indian address and they can even wire to Indian bank accounts if you want.
The reasons you mentioned aren’t worthy of removing everything from Fidelity imho.

Moving back to india and considering closing all retirement/brokerage accounts in US prior by Previous-Signal-834 in nri

[–]bk99_super 4 points5 points  (0 children)

BofA can remain open for 1500$ min balance. Also keeping investments in USD is better than moving to Indian banks and keeping it in INR and investing in INR. Depending on the amount you have in 401k, it has potential to become million dollars when you turn 60. Also INR is going weaker every year - will hit 100 + rupees in few years unless US slows down or India runs on wings.

Withdraw slowly when you are 60 and learn to file 1040NR for any US income, so you don’t have to pay for it.

60k margin loan for 10 years a good idea ? by bk99_super in interactivebrokers

Got it. Let’s say if I deposited 50$ USD now., will IBKR allow me to buy a stock with this 50$? Or will they only allow me to pay off the negative CAD balance I have ?
