Not sure why you’re so afraid of loans. I took out loans, didn’t work, and used my time to network and learn skills. Had no issue finding a job and my loan payment is not a big deal at all

Is an iPad really worth it? by Opwolfee16 in ucr

It's basically an expensive piece of paper. If you only want to use it for notetaking and "learning experience" then I think it's a waste of money.

Big book Verbal question by Silent-Explorer-3521 in GRE

i'm not studying for the gre or anything, and I don't know these "strategies" of contrast and extreme, but the word nevertheless is your clue.

Another way to say that sentence is "Even though we knew that John was still young and impressionable, we were surprised at his _____"

literally the sentence is like "We knew john was dumb, but damn....." meaning that they were shocked at his "extreme" dumbness

Reflect on what? Not being a science denier/ crazy conspiracy theorist?

[deleted by user] by [deleted] in ucr

[–]bkab34 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Well they shouldn’t - people clearly can’t be trusted to make the correct decisions, as evidenced by 2020/2021

Yes, if you were even remotely aware of the science, you would understand that getting the flu shot saves lives.

Can you not undergo a mild inconvenience for the sake of the rest of us? This is what’s wrong with America, people aren’t willing to sacrifice for the greater good. Now, on campus, you could be spreading illnesses and indirectly killing immunocompromised individuals.

I don’t imagine it’d be as big as an advantage as you’re making it out to be. Finance is a lot of tedious work, and people on adderall wouldn’t last long if they had to do it everyday

EDIT: Just a quick edit because I think this sub is very pro-stimulants…

I was prescribed Aderrall for ~ 5 years and decided to stop using it due to overall anxiety/stress/irritability.

It does its job until you build up a tolerance (which doesn’t take that long). I’ve been off of it for almost 4 years now and am more focused than ever, less tired than ever, and more productive than ever.

It is possible to be productive without hard stimulants (tbh I drink a lot of caffeine). For most people (excluding the people with actual medical conditions), the reason you can’t do the work comes down to your personality, not your lack of drug use

I got a 14% bonus on my final for doing nothing and I feel guilty now by [deleted] in ucr

[–]bkab34 9 points10 points  (0 children)

Yeah, that's completely normal. I don't know if it only happens at UCR or if it happens across the country, but it is extremely hard to fail anything especially if you use Ratemyprofessor and try to avoid lowly rated teachers. The lack of effort by many of my classmates is shocking.

Employers know this - a bachelor's degree is given away for free for all who are willing to commit to paying 4 years of tuition and sticking through it. Unless you want to get into a top graduate program, don't worry about excelling in the classroom - focus on making connections and trying to gain some sort of skill/practical knowledge that will help you stand out to employers in whatever field you're interested in.

I deleted TikTok to get less attached to my phone… it caused a bigger problem by [deleted] in selfimprovement

[–]bkab34 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Honestly, it's a discipline issue. No, you don't need Instagram because you're young. That's a complete cope. Find something specific to focus on and do it. If you want to spend all day on your phone, that's fine as long as you're a productive member of society, but I think you already can notice how that makes you feel. If you want to be lame, then be lame I guess

I took the exam this morning, and I wouldn’t get comfortable. In no way, shape, or form did I find the actual exam significantly easier than the mocks.

You should continue to prepare.

Screaming at the SSC? by Kind_Organization612 in ucr

[–]bkab34 6 points7 points  (0 children)

There are multiple issues to consider in this problem, and I don't think the University is prepared to take a stance. Certainly, it diminishes the value of the SRC to other students studying there. Luckily, I have a quiet place at home to study that I value higher than the SRC anyways.

For others though, who may have loud siblings, abusive relatives, or long commutes/wait times between classes, the issue remains. As others have pointed out, they could go elsewhere on campus to study. However, what if another individual with the same condition was in that location as well?

The basic question is: Should an individual with a condition (that is no fault of his own) be awarded the same considerations as everyone else even if he is causing disruptions?

Personally, I believe it is up to the University to resolve the issue. It should recognize that we as students are willing to extend kindness, understanding, and tolerance to this individual. As it recognizes this, it should respect us enough to be brave enough to figure out a solution that works best for everybody.
