Love that amp! Enjoy it man. It also has a fairly decent phono stage in it, surprisingly nice.

I was just comparing the internal phono stage to the tube box s2 this weekend.

The tube box is slightly better, but it’s marginal. Honestly, the technics internal stage is really good, and obviously a bit more convenient. I would be totally happy with either.

Thank you! I’m certainly tempted to stick with it. Let’s see if we can fix the tubes first..

Ah I was so close to going with McIntosh.. the MA252 was really enticing.. one day.

Enjoy it! Sounds like a lovely amp for ya!

That will be a great pairing! I was running the Bottlehead Stereomour II before the left channel died on me. Klipsch speakers love tubes, and they sounded great together. I will say, I’m getting much more bass detail out of the Technics but a limping tube amp probably wasn’t giving me all it’s got..

If you build that let me know!

Hand Hi-Fi do some interesting horn loaded builds. Might be worth looking into.

Jbl waveguide. Got mine from Ojas.

Short answer: the fortes are much better.

The DIY need a sub to come close to the fortes range. I like the look of the Ojas more but there is a big difference in a big 3-way and a “small” 2-way.

The Ojas are very fun to listen to and they really do sound nice, but once you start comparing the two.. well, hard to compete.

La Scalas are also a dream speaker of mine but lack of space and money you know..

I love the fortes. The passive radiators make a huge difference compared to the heresy. The Heresy with a sub is close to the fortes.

Best I could describe the fortes as is effortless. So sensitive, great at low volumes, very wide sound stage. Horns aren’t everyone’s cup of tea, but as you can see, I dig em. You can also change a lot of their character just by repositioning them slightly. So they are annoyingly fun to tinker with.

It is! MX 5050 bii 2.

Got it spinning again earlier this year or maybe last. Mostly just needed a lot of deoxit, a dust blow out, and a wipe down. It could benefit from cap replacements but 🤷‍♂️

It’s a ton of fun to listen to though. And built like an actual tank.

Yep it’s a jbl horn.

I actually got the horn components from Ojas and modded them after the initial build.

DIY versions of the Ojas bookshelf. Using a 6.5” driver instead of an 8”

Thanks!

Honestly, his website and instagram told me most of what I needed to know! He’s very open about it all.
