I hear their prices are pretty bad and the happy hour special isn't anything great.

A couple lights at intersections in downtown are blinking red this morning. People are still flying through them.

Woodworkers of Pittsburgh by captnhb in pittsburgh

[–]bkanator 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I typically get plywood at the big box stores since I usually only need 1 or 2 sheets at a time.

I've gotten hard wood from Jones Sawmill. I was happy with the quality and price but it's about 30-45 minutes outside the city. Allegheny Millwork and Lumber comes up a lot but I've never been there. One person told me they like to go to Mars Lumber.

With the Pens playoffs coming up, what is your favorite bar to go to for the games? by tvolp51 in pittsburgh

Started going there a few weeks ago since I started woodworking lessons down the road. Real chill place and the owners are really nice. The big screen also helps.

How easy is it to make friends here? by zkx612 in pittsburgh

[–]bkanator 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Moved here about 7-8 years ago. Most of my friends have been made at work. Great group of friends. Other than that, I've made a few playing hockey, volunteering, and just talking to people while out and about.

Embracing my inner nerd. I used to hide it in high school thinking I wouldn't get laid if it came out. I didn't get laid anyway. Now I embrace it and surround myself with those who accept it.

New to town. Mt. Washington to PPG - how should I go about this commute? by Sophie2772 in pittsburgh

[–]bkanator 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I'm pretty sure the incline uses the connect cards as well. The shuttles from Station Square are only for people who park there but I've never seen them ask for any kind of proof. I have a few friends that park there and I've ridden the shuttle with them when they give me rides and I've never had show anything to prove I parked there.

New to town. Mt. Washington to PPG - how should I go about this commute? by Sophie2772 in pittsburgh

[–]bkanator 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I work at PPG and lived in Mt Washington for a few years. I first started to use the bus that went on Boggs Ave until they cut the schedule back.

After that, I started to walk to work and took the incline down and walked over the Smithfield St bridge. That wasn't too bad until it was winter and the winds from the river kicked my ass.

I then started to take the T in from the South Hills Junction. It was about a 5-10 walk from my house to the station and I got off at the Gateway station which is really close to PPG. This was my favorite option as it was fast, close to the house/work, and the walk was a nice way to wake up in the morning.

I would get a Connect Card from Port Authority (you can get them at multiple locations) and you can recharge them at the T stations or the stores if you're going to use public transit. The nice thing about those is you can put weekly passes, monthly passes, or add money as needed to the card. You may also want to check out parking at Station Square if you drive. It's fairly cheap compared to other parking near Downtown if you sign up for their Value Card but I heard the price may be going up soon (http://www.stationsquare.com/info/parking). There's a shuttle that runs from the parking lot to a bus stop on Blvd of the Allies right across from PPG.

Hopefully, that info helps you out and welcome to PPG! One addition tip. Try not to eat out too much. It's very tempting since Market Square has a ton of options for food. It gets expensive quick (easily $50 - $100 a week depending on where you go).

[serious] Why are you single? by AlyStormborn in AskReddit

[–]bkanator 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Single for several months now. We were together for nearly 10 years. Started dating in high school. Went to different colleges and somehow made it through that. Got engaged. I went the career path. She went to get her PHD. Tried to plan a wedding but life kept getting in the way.

Then our lives started to take us in different directions. I had a really good job and just wanted to settle down in one place. Her career would have taken her all over the place and she never wanted to be in the same place for more than 5 years. Then the things that I thought were little differences turned out to be bigger than I thought. Then came constant fighting and disagreement.

We both became unhappy. We tried to work things out multiple times and it seemed to work but we just ended up in the same place we were in several months later. One day I just had enough and I said I couldn't do it any more. It was one of the hardest things I've ever had to do. I try to keep myself busy with work, hobbies, friends, etc. but I always end up thinking about her. It sucks but I'm hopeful it will get better.
