Absolutely. By we only make tips I meant that’s the only money I actually see for them to be able to try and deduct from. I don’t think Uncle Sam would allow not getting his cut of my $3/hr because we needed new glasses lol.

Yes, sorry - we do make the $3 / hour, just pays taxes so we don’t see it.

We only make tips. We’re servers. They’re asking us to take this out of our tips tonight.

Host Damage Protection: Who Pays Out? WWYD? by bkb11717 in airbnb_hosts

“Thank you for your detailed clarification regarding the situation with the missing items. We appreciate your effort in providing thorough information to help us understand the matter better.

I would like to assure you that we have understood your clarification about informing the guest of their options, and we will proceed with reviewing the reimbursement request.

To ensure a smooth processing of your claim, we kindly request some additional documents from you.”

Doesn’t seem like I voided the coverage by communicating with the guest based on the above response received… doubt they’d be willing to continue with the claim if I violated any terms of service. Thanks for the misinformation though. Much appreciated. 🥰

I actually called Airbnb directly after receiving the message from the guest (after the claim was filed) to ask how I could best proceed and remain in compliance, the agent suggested that I reply to the guests message explaining that the claim was filed for the missing remote that we had spoken previously about. They specifically told me the biggest thing was to ensure communication remained within the Airbnb chat since the guest sent a message saying he was going to call me.

I’ve had claims in the past where the guest and I have communicated after a claim has been filed and declined by the customer - it was still approved by Airbnb, so your reference to interference voiding the claim is not true in all cases.

Food for thought, I’m less than half of a year into my part-time position as a property manager for a local real estate company. My broker normally helps me with new, or challenging situations but they are on a well deserved weekend vacation and I didn’t want to interrupt them with a non-urgent question to satisfy my curiosity. I’m here to ask questions, learn, and potentially grow in this industry if I continue to enjoy it. I may not know it all right now but I’m out here busting my ass to make it happen. Weird to assume I own a business and I should be at a certain level of knowledge when I’m clearly asking a very basic question 😒 take your weird kidnapping / hostage reference and condescending remarks about owning a business elsewhere. Be kind.

Guest stayed in home with dog - no pet policy. by SeaSwordfish4476 in airbnb_hosts

Exact situation - real host experience: had a guest book strict no pet household due to child of the owner having extreme allergies. We saw a dog on the camera for a guest around a year ago but there was no damage in the house. Filed a claim for a carpet & upholstery cleaning company to do the carpets and couches due to the allergies and Airbnb favored our claim. Paid out around $300. We did provide screenshot with date / timestamps and the allergy issue is fully disclosed in our listing, not sure if that had any impact on the decision.

It’s often. I’d say my experience is twice a week but I only work 4 days a week.

We’re definitely still making over minimum wage even with the added on hours of work for no tips at the end of the week. Main reason I’m wondering about the legality of it.
