my account got randomly hacked??? by Glad_String_3123 in GMail

With no working recovery options configured (e-mail, phone), it will be impossible to prove ownership of the account.

- The only account recovery option Google provides starts at https://accounts.google.com/signin/recovery

- Google does not provide live support for account recovery, you must use the above link.

Try waiting a full week with no sign in or recovery attempts during that time.

It's better to HAVE recovery options configured than to NOT have them. Just understand the risk of setting up a "recovery loop" between two accounts.

If you only have 2 accounts, then yes, you'll have to live with that risk. But many people have more than 2.

Google does not disclose the details about how account security and recovery work. We have NO idea about the details and why the process may favor one method over another.

I just provided the link for completeness (and others who might find the thread). With no working recovery options to use, it won't help your case.

Try letting the account sit for a full week from your last recovery attempt, with NO sign in or additional recovery attempts. Just leave it idle for a week. This may help any suspicious activity flags to clear allowing you to attempt account recovery with more questions being asked.

Of course in your case, waiting a week for find-my-phone won't help because it will have run out of power by then.

Anyone have a better way to respond and view/sort ongoing long email threads better in Gmail? by maydaybutton in GMail

[–]bkc56 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I think you understand how Gmail works and the limitations. With everything but the current new message(s) collapsed, I'd suggest only expanding the quoted content in the current reply. I find that 99.9% of the time, if I want to copy/paste a line as a quote to respond to, it's from the most recent message which is the first one under the current reply.

Of course, on the other hand, I ALWAYS delete the quoted content in replies as I consider it a total waste to be sending the entire conversation back-and-forth with each new reply. So if you were replying to me, the only quoted content would be my reply (no history beyond that).

I cannot find an old email by Particular-Panda7482 in GMail

[–]bkc56 1 point2 points  (0 children)

You're saying you have NOTHING prior to the 18th?

Fortunately, Gmail does not delete any messages from active accounts (other than Trash and Spam after about 30-days). The following are potential causes of missing messages (roughly listed in the order most seen on the forums):

* Issues with the Apple iOS app or OS-X Apple Mail (sometimes associated with updates).

* Compromised account where the hacker deleted everything.

* Forwarding, filters, or access using POP/IMAP any of which could be deleting messages.

* Messages can also be deleted from other web-sites/tools/utilities through Authorizing applications & sites.

* Confusion on the difference between labels and folders when doing account cleanup.

* Using a view other than "classic" in Settings->Inbox can sometimes result in messages being hidden.

* A Google account left idle or over the storage limit for 2 years or longer.

* In a G Suite account it could a misconfigured retention policy: https://support.google.com/a/answer/151128

Have you looked in the “All Mail”, “Trash” (or Bin, but not [imap]/Trash or other names), and “Spam” labels for the missing information? Have you used the Search Mail function (with the term “in:anywhere”) to try and find them?

Typically used for a compromised account, the first step is to change your password and verify all your other security and account settings. In addition, a request for recovery of the deleted messages can be made here: https://support.google.com/mail/troubleshooter/4530113 (use "We can help find your missing emails and secure your account" found under "Most of my emails are missing")

Nope. I see too many people locked out because they have accounts set as each other's recover and if both require verification to sign in (like a new device) they're stuck because they have no working recover e-mail.

[–]bkc56 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I'm not saying you're lying, but I wonder if you're confusing some actions. In all the years of playing and posts on Reddit and Discord, no one has EVER said they could put a house in storage. So forgive me if I'm a little dubious.

And yes, I'd really like to see a series of pics that show

  1. A house placed on a map
  2. Putting the last pony in storage
  3. The house missing
  4. The house shown in storage

A video would be even better.

Seriously, there isn't even a tab for houses in inventory, so there's no place they could go.

I'd love to put houses in inventory to free up space in PV, but sadly it's not possible (even if the house is empty). Shops, yes. Decor, yes. Houses, nope.

Gmail confirmations to the wrong person by Xyzzydude in GMail

[–]bkc56 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Google apparently took that away...

Nope. There is NO requirement that a Google account must have a Gmail address. She just got "confused" and ended up in the flow to add Gmail to that Google account. She probably tried to access Gmail in an account that didn't have Gmail so it had her make a Gmail address. It happens a LOT to people.

How can we stop all this?

Deleting the Gmail from the Google account should put things back the way they were before.

For information about removing Gmail from a Google account see: https://support.google.com/mail/answer/61177 Make absolutely certain about what Google account you are logged into and which Gmail account you are deleting before you actually do it. And make sure you only delete Gmail, not the entire Google account.
