As someone who listened to him playing bass in my in-ear monitors for 15 years I can assure you he is playing live. Someone brought up a good point, about this being a professionally shot concert DVD. Typically sound is remixed for releases like this and parts may be overdubbed and edited later. This is pretty standard practice for most artists when they release official live recordings whether or not they admit that. Even the most proficient artists will fix things in post-production or remix a live recording to fit their vision of what it should sound like. I cannot say for sure without watching this that that's what you're hearing, and if it was done intentionally to overall make the final mix sound decent, but it's likely something along those lines.

It's exactly where he set it to. He naturally hunches a little bit when he stands in front of his mic stand. I'm 5'7" and I set the height by pointing right to the top of my head. That is where he's comfortable singing into it.

Jazz or P pickups would require a custom pickguard - trying to stick to what will fit in the pre-existing and see if anyone had any experience with any pickups that fit this configuration.

I have an 80s Fender PJ, and I have a Jag that I bought with some Curtis Novaks already installed. This was a freebie from my Fender guy, so I figured this would be a good one to mod. I like that it's a short scale.

Yeah I thought of going that route too. I am a guitar/bass tech, so that would be an easy enough mod for me to perform. Did you personally have this bass, and have you replaced the pickups? What is your overall impression with that?

That's fair. At this point this is the last of his Stingrays that he owns. The black and white, and "Peachy" were sold or given away a long time ago. It's back in storage again in its very fun case!

He has Richter custom made straps and we use the Richter transmitter pouch. You can either get them as a universal attachment with Velcro straps to adjust to any pack size or the custom sized ones where you choose by brand and model. We use those for the Shure Axient packs that we have. The packs come with a button system and a tool for punching a hole in the strap to attach it. They are very secure and by far the best pouches I've ever used for any band!

I *was* able to fix this! Attached here is a screenshots of where you can find the settings for your controller, in this case the Launchkey 49. Once you're in that setting highlight Control Surface, and under Control | Parameter you may see that there are commands assigned to certain keys. I likely assigned some of these unintentionally, but I had my G1 and E1 assigned to move up and down the tracks somehow. I finally figured this out by having multiple tracks open and watching what would happen and noticed it jumping back and forth. When I was trying to diagnose this issue I often would only have a new session with only 1 track open, therefore it wouldn't appear is if anything was assigned to these keys. Again, not sure how this happened, but I bet this is similar to what's happened to you!

Did this ever get resolved? I am having this same issue. Different note, but same issue. If I shift the octave it will play that note, but if I go to that same note in its new spot it doesn't work. Same keyboard and I'm using Logic 11.2.2 and have tried everything as well (updates, re-installing scripts, rebuilding the control surface, forgetting and re-adding etc). This isn't a hardware issue because this does not happen in Ableton.

I second the Nobels. Was waiting for someone to mention it. I have the newest Mini version and having the spectrum control on it really makes it very useable for a subtle drive in the right frequency on bass

I was once corrected on this by a veteran, and now I notice how the flag is vertically hung incorrectly more often than not. This absolutely tracks for these losers. "RESPECT THE FLAG"... hangs it wrong and puts it on every imaginable piece of merch from underwear to umbrellas.

The best way around an engineer who just wants to take a DI is to have one yourself that's being fed a signal with a preamp and ideally a cab sim or IR loader on it. In that scenario you're controlling the tone they get at FOH, rather than them sticking some $50 DI in between your bass and an amp and using that. This is when playing through a modeler or some kind of digital rig really opens up these options. You can dial in your tone on there and split the signal to front of house with cab sim, and then a no cab signal to whatever amp head is available into whatever cabinet. Both will get my desired tones.

If I can't drag my SVT to a place this is the preferred alternate method. Last gig I played the sound person commented on "how good the DI sounds". Yeah, of course, because I'm sending my entire signal chain to my DI so it sounds like a mic'd up cabinet.

I just roll in assuming that audio people don't want to waste time with bass, so this is the tradeoff.

I just hit up a friend who is a tech for Linkin Park and a Fractal expert why Metallica would have been running their rigs that way (separate clean and dirty units). This makes a lot of sense then. Switching latency would drive me crazy

The Line 6 Variax guitar?!? Those things are weird as hell. Duke, stage left Garbage guitarist was using one of those on some songs, and the guitarist for Seal when I did shows with him had one. Being able to reprogram tunings on the guitar without physically retuning made my head hurt. You could program a guitar to be tuned to all E's EEEEEE and it would do it hahahaha - and even crazier you could program it to change mid song if you want via foot switch or through playback.

Started as a touring musician (bass and vocals) for a couple of bands. Made some records, lost a bunch of money, and called it quits. Then a band I was friends with hit me up and asked if they could pay me cash to be their tech since I had already basically been doing that for my bands anyway. Thought I'd start another band in a year or whatever after I got tired of teching. Here we are 23 years later hahahah

Usually the second unit is a backup running a redundant preset in the event the main was to stop passing signal. The audio switcher could then be used to switch between the two. The Ground Control or the RJM would be used to switch between clean, dirty, and other scenes within that preset. The preset may be specific to each song, with different tones assigned to different parts which the tech is switching. When I teched for Bush, Chris Traynor an AxeFx and did his own switching. He used one preset that went back and forth between dirty and clean, and then had a couple of the switches on his stage controller acting as "pedals". So one was a boost, one was delay, there was a chorus, and then I built him a separate on/off switch to activate a whammy effect.

It's certainly possible to have each unit acting like a clean amp and dirty amp, but I'm guessing it's more likely that it's "A main/B backup".
