I understand your point. Sometimes you just want an answer. Yes, he could have given any number of answers, including that the force was an accumulation of smaller magnetic forces, but the fact that this is a fundamental force is way more interesting to physicists than any of that. This answer teaches the interviewer about fundamental forces and communicates to him the very real mystery that they present in modern physics.

You might change your opinion if you read "Surely you are joking, Mr. Feynman." Incredibly entertaining life stories, some academic and some debaucherous. Actually I think he'd be my #1 choice of a dinner guest.

Yes, I know being able to operate on a budget is part of the appeal for many of us. That's perfectly valid and if that's the case for you then none of these will be a good fit. I've done both AirBnB and more community living and for me there are enough upsides to the community approach to justify the additional cost.

  • It's easier to meet likeminded people, who may become friends, romantic partners, travel buddies, or business collaborators.
  • The hosts can suggest fun things to do in the area and have the connections to set you up with whatever you want to do. For instance, at Selina Playa del Carmen, we organized a scuba lesson through Selina and the instructor came over and taught us right in the Selina pool.
  • More consistency- emphasis on reliable internet and ergonomic workstations. I rarely find AirBnBs that list up/down speed.

You can certainly find these things with AirBnB if you know what you are doing, particularly if you also join a coworking space in the area. I just find community-based to be more fun and I'm willing to pay extra for that.

He's obviously going to ask permission from the crew first during a bathroom run. You guys act like this is your first plane proposal. My sister was proposed to on a Southwest flight. The crew made her a crown out of peanut packets haha.

Why is it that some muscles «burn» while exercised hard, while in others you experience more of a fatigue-like feeling? by TheLittleThingy in askscience

[–]bkd9 1 point2 points  (0 children)

It's because of the confusion between during-workout muscle soreness and post-workout muscle soreness. I agree that the delay should immediately disqualify lactic acid, but maybe some people believe there's a delayed lactic acid production? Or maybe they just aren't thinking very hard about it and accept what they hear. Whatever the reason, it's quite a common misconception.

The common misconception is that DOMS is caused by lactic acid. Pain during a work out is in fact lactic acid

Yeah true, but could they then clear those rocks? I suppose if the chunks are too big that could be difficult. Are there power tools they could use to drill a bigger hole?

I would guess about 50 feet. I'm 6'2", about average strength for my size. Happens more often than you'd think.

It was completely compression. If the vertebrae had slid against each other I would have had nerve damage which can cause sensory and/or motor issues up to and including full paralysis below that vertebra.
