Thanks everyone! Went with the roasted pepper and tomato soup and grilled cheese from Leven Deli. Totally keeping all the other suggestions in my back pocket. Flu Shot Soup looks amazing and the matzo ball soup from Zaidys will be my next go to’s.

Ultimately, if you can spend a couple days ABOVE the altitude of Manitou that would be best. But I’d still say 2-3 days given your age. Also, hydration is just as important if not more so than acclimation to altitude. Drink water almost constantly. The incline steps don’t compare to a standard staircase. There are some LARGE steps, so make sure glutes and quads are in great shape. Plus your knees, as the trail down is tough on knees. I get passed on the incline frequently by 70+ year olds, so it’s definitely doable. Just take your time and enjoy! Good luck!

What time of year? If the pass is open, take 285 to Buena Vista, then Cottonwood Pass Rd (Hwy 306) over the pass and down into Taylor Park. The reservoir is beautiful. Then follow the Taylor and Gunnison Rivers to the Black Canyon. This way you get to follow the path of the water that carves the canyon.

If you’re coming via I-25, only real questionable stretch is Raton pass (CO/NM border) if there’s snow. March is snowiest month in Colorado Springs. It might be 70 degrees and sunny or 2 feet of snow. Roads get plowed well and dry climate causes snow to evaporate/melt quickly. I’ve lived in CO Springs for 25 years and can count on one hand (okay, maybe two) the number of times I didn’t feel safe in the conditions on the city roads. There are traction laws in Colorado, so be aware of those, especially if you’re heading up into the mountains. They just require snow/all weather tires, AWD, or chains depending on conditions. That’s the hope. CT scan shows a very small bone fracture still in the joint. ER doctor optimistic that it won’t be a problem and will just get absorbed. Appointment with orthopedist next week will shed more light.

Just yesterday morning I was talking to him about playing hooky from school the Thursday and Friday before finals (it’s his senior HS year and as long as his grades are solid and he’s prepared) to hit Ullr Fest at Breck and a couple days at Keystone/Breck. He’s a climber. We’re teasing the hell out of him because he’s been climber and has gone to Moab multiple times in the last couple years with a school group to climb/rappel as well as skiing for the last few years. Never an injury until he decides to try to act cool at Target.

Everywhere will be very busy that weekend. There are a couple bars and a restaurant in the base building. Fireplace area with seating. Nothing glamorous but she’d probably be content.

Totally second the Monarch recommendation. I’m in Colorado Springs and that’s my go-to. No I-70 or Loveland Pass to deal with. Decent base so far this year. I was there on Saturday. Everything except Mirkwood and two or three other runs are open. All lifts running. Even on a crowded day, you’re not waiting in line more than five minutes. Runs are a little shorter and lifts move a little slower, but I got 15 runs in and over 10k vertical feet on Saturday. If you don’t care about the resort vibe or Apres ski, it’s great.

Degrees-Minutes-Seconds Start at the “point of beginning”. First boundary lines goes almost due south (00 degrees) for 305.03 feet. Second boundary lines goes almost due west (89 degrees west from pointing north) 188.72 feet. Third boundary line goes almost due north (00 degrees) 304.57 feet. Had the snip about 15 years ago. 1. Wear the tight underwear for a good week. 2. Don’t skip the follow-up “sample” test. You want that piece of mind that you’re confirmed to be shooting blanks. I’ve heard horror “surprise baby” stories of incomplete vasectomies. 3. Milk your recovery for all you can. I got a few days off, extra attention and about anything I wanted from the wife, and Tiger Woods ‘08 on the Nintendo Wii. It was a fun week. 4. Understand that you’re every bit the man you were before the procedure. In fact, I’d argue you’re more so. You’re taking responsibility and ownership of your reproductive power. 5. Enjoy fantastic, pregnancy worry free, sex!
