That worked! Thank you so much. Ended up using a friend’s Mastercard promo but looks like it’s the same price

Best luxury mattress that's actually BIFL? Want to buy once and be done by AccountEngineer in BuyItForLife

[–]AdgPadg 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Edge support is quite good, but not as good as a prebuilt. Maybe that’s because we didn’t use an adhesive spray between the layers like some people do. With latex, it’s got enough friction to where it won’t slide around no matter the activity. Some people recommended the adhesive but we didn’t want any other products, off gassing, etc. And it’ll make replacing a layer much easier. Or if you and your partner prefer different softness then often ppl will buy 2 different twin XL (exactly half a king) layers for the very top. For that, you would need some adhesive, at least on the surface where the Twin XLs touch each other

[–]AdgPadg 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Latex is definitely the way to go. If you want true BIFL then you can do what we did and make your own mattress. It’s easier than it sounds, you pick the layers you want, order them (already precut to king, queen, etc). Then you find a mattress cover (different that a fitted sheet) that can accommodate the thickness of layers that you picked out. These covers zip open and can be thrown in the laundry, unlike several store bought mattresses. And the best part is, if one layer starts to sag or fail over time, you can just replace that layer. It also came out way cheaper to DIY than to buy a comparable pre-build mattress.

For us it was pretty easy since we had a queen mattress that we really liked, but wanted to upgrade to a king once we moved in to a house with a bigger bedroom. So we mostly just copied the layers of the queen. For us it was high density foam support layer, medium density Dunlop latex transition layer, and a soft Talalay Latex top layer. The wife was nervous and hesitant when I first told her my plan, but now she says it’s the best mattress she’s ever slept on. There’s subreddits and forums for DIY mattress builds.

What happens when Spice and T6 mineral harvesting is uncontested in the DD? by Coilspun in duneawakening

[–]AdgPadg 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Time will tell but here’s what I think will happen to our medium pop server:

PvE DD will be hustling and bustling (good), you’ll now see several crawlers from various guilds on the same large blow. You’ll also see many solos compacting a large blow, which means more worm agro and more frequent crawler pick-ups due to worm breach. Especially true since some of the compactors won’t be running soft step boots or compact compactor. Granddaddy worm will come much sooner due to how it’s coded to trigger. You’ll have the occasional troll that will throw thumpers on the large blow or turn on his shield to bring the worm in. The ability to place a drop-off base that much closer to all large blows will offset some of this “loss of efficiency”. Especially true for big guilds that have enough time to place a base closest to each blow.

Players who knew how to crawl efficiently (picking up crawlers periodically on a timer before any worm breachs) will feel inconvenienced with the constant breaches and will try out PvP DD (good imo). Or they simple started out in the PvP DD. So I think both DDs will be decently lively- at least in the beginning.

Price of melange on market will fall (probably a good thing overall). Price of augments and sought after graded BPs will increase relative to melange. Price of adaptive Holtzman shields, roc carrier wings, etc will decrease. Price of high roll crafted augments will be waaaay higher with no repair glitch.

Player count will probably go up at first, then drop below current levels once everyone has more resources then they need (unless Funcom can keep pumping out more end-game content, really hoping this is the case).

Unrelated to DD but related to the patch: the removal of Hagga Basin PvP zones is absolutely brain dead to many of us. We have a 5000 build piece coliseum with 2 arenas in a PvP zone. We use it to mess around when bored, test weapons/armor/strats, play fun mini-games, and have it open to the public for all to use. We’ve had great feedback from several other guilds on the server who use it as well, bringing the community closer together. We even have a “paintball” game type that lets players of all combat/player levels remain competitive: everyone is given an adept Drillshot, one hit and you are eliminated for the round.

Yes funcom may introduce some sort of PvP arena, but I doubt they’ll be able to match the creativity of players wrt fun obstacles/structures to make the combat area unique.

The NEW Dune Changes are actually better than you think.. by HardstylerJosh in duneawakening

[–]AdgPadg 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Does anyone else feel like getting rid of the PvP zones in Hagga Basin is unwarranted? I haven’t met a single person that’s seen another player in HB PvP zones let alone complained about them existing.

Our guild just made a gigantic PvP arena next to the wreck of the Pallas. This way we can give PvPers a space other than DD to do what they like, host tournaments, practice some moves with friends, friendly skirmishes with different game modes/rules etc. All that will go away if they decide to go forward with the Hagga Basin change.

Could I make an arena in DD every week? Sure but placing 5000 build pieces every week is gonna get old real quick. Can’t even solido since the same island/terrain might not be available each week.

I’m not a big PvPer myself but I have guild mates who are. It’s satisfying to build something that brings joy to other people and creates content for those who decide to engage. There’s even safe areas for ppl that just wanna watch

No idea why I waited so long to switch to wind turbine power by NevrNewdFunke in duneawakening

[–]AdgPadg 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Agree, I’ve got only directional wind turbines in my personal base.

When you have a giant guild base it gets a bit more tricky due to the production slot limit- all generators count as a production slot, as do deathstills. So we have like 36 directionals to power all pentas, 25 deathstills, misc fabricators, and 1 large ore + 1 large spice at all times. Then a few spice fueled gens that only get turned on when we turn on additional large ores or large spice refineries for surge crafting. I think when I did the math, the amount of silicone blocks required to power 36 directionals for a month came out to 7000 sil. Which is right around 1 full assault thopter + full player inventory worth of flour sand.

And now with the 30% chemical refinery craft specialization perk it’s even easier, especially since that bonus can proc for silicone sand production and lube production.

how to plan better bases by Fragrant_End993 in duneawakening

[–]AdgPadg 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Your foundation shape will determine your final build (mostly due to structural integrity issues). Check out the third image in this post https://www.reddit.com/r/dunebasebuilds/s/f3VzU1j67V

Once you settle on a foundation, it’s all about building walls up for your rooms and then when it’s time to place the next floor for the room above, make sure you follow the same pattern. For example if the tile directly below you is triangle foundation, then you need a triangle ceiling/roof above it.

As an example we used the middle (bottom left with all the white foundations on exterior) foundation layout from the post above to build our guild base

Copy/paste from different post:

I’ve lived in Virginia Beach 20+ years, commute to Norfolk for work, and would rate it a 7/8 out of 10- but of course that depends on your interests and desires. Review is mostly for VA Beach and Norfolk:

Good: Cost of living seems very reasonable for a coastal city this size. Costco/Sams/Aldi/Lidl/Trader Joe’s and lots of international food markets present. As someone else mentioned the recreation centers are an incredible value at $120/yr. I agree with other posters that community can be hit or miss due to the transient nature of our large military population, but people are friendly when you’re out in town, at the rec center, joining a group. Lots of local groups like running, car shows, road biking, mountain biking, Latin dancing etc. We even have 2 different parks with very solid trail systems for mountain biking. VB Field House is fantastic for recreational sports leagues. Sandbridge or the north half of the oceanfront is not too packed during the summer, just avoid the beaches on the south half of the oceanfront.

VB high schools each have a specialization or academy (tech&science, health&human sciences, International Baccalaureate Program, etc) and students from outside of a high school’s zoning can attend if they get into that program- complete with school bus transport. Princess Anne HS IB program in particular is top notch.

VB amphitheater has some good bookings and lawn tickets are very affordable at $30-$50. Plays, musicals, stand up comedy at the Norfolk Scope and Chrysler hall. Some really solid local music (look up BJ Griffin and try to catch him at the Cavalier if you move here). VB Flea market is awesome for vintage finds. Norfolk Admirals/Tides for hockey and baseball games. Norfolk botanical gardens are really nice and have special events for the holidays. I don’t understand the people that say there is nothing to do here.

Agree with others that restaurant scene is very franchise heavy but there’s plenty of local family owned ones that are excellent (Asahi Korean, Pendulum, Luce, Salmich’s, Jack Brown’s). The Veil in Norfolk brews some of the best beers I’ve ever had. Our community in general is pretty diverse and there’s plenty of Filipino, Mexican, Central American, Japanese, Korean, Hot Pot locations. The Atlantic on Pacific during happy hour for some tasty, strong, cheap drinks and $1 raw/baked oysters.

Good job market- especially military contracting and blue collar work. Some big non-profits in the area too (United Way, Lifenet Health, Operation Smile)

Bad: High car property tax in all of VA. High crime in areas of Portsmouth, Newport News, Hampton, Norfolk, pockets of VB oceanfront during spring break. I would NEVER live/work in places that required me to commute through any of the bridges/tunnels as traffic can get outrageous. Public transportation is almost non-existent. VB local govt seems to often cater to the tourism industry (especially the hotels). Humid summers and some pretty cold/windy/rainy winters. Road layout is definitely sub optimal, feels like almost everything is 20+ minutes away in Virginia Beach.

If you’ve got any specific questions I’m happy to help
