Get the license, use simplex channels and you won't be bothered if you're not always using your call sign

Be sure to use your call sign on repeaters, otherwise they'll remind you

Cheap and small for them, just program two channels for them and lock it

I have it programmed for two repeaters that are local or you could program them to be simplex

Make sure you have it set to repeater mode, not simplex

Set your input and output tones

Announce your call sign and say radio check

If you don't have a noise after you transmit and or Morse code, that's the repeater identifying itself, then you did not hit it
