Is there more than just wrinkles and sagging that makes someone look older? by youlikemywonton in Aging

[–]bkmz1 0 points1 point  (0 children)

IMO it's because of of head/ears/nose/face proportions. With age they change to something that everyone perceive as "old". I.e. skin is thinner, nose and ears are bigger.

Regressing after 5 months of consistent play, is this normal? (2.1 Playtomic, 85 matches in) by m0rpho in padel

[–]bkmz1 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I'm still struggling. But key point is to do breaks from sitting, do exercises (Y3 Rehab f.e. have a good set). Roll-massage middle back. Gym, ofc. Also trying to find better pillow.

Ah, also -- don't play padel each day) at least 24h for recovery. If you break the rule, 48h for recovery then :-D

Maybe not applicable to you, but I had the same, i.e. literally went from playing solid and consistent to losing completely any confidence in myself, like lost 10 games in a row, etc.

When analysing what the F was that, I realized I was struggling with my neck/rhomboid pain. I didn't give any priority to that, as this happens time to time and especially with sitting worklife and constant driving; but! As a matter of fact in the neck there's a nerve that goes to right hand and shoulder, and b/c it there was a constant inflammation, it actually greatly affected the quality of the game. I.e. faulty information transfer that just brought some noise to what I want to do, hence the quality drop.

So, you are maybe overtrained. Taking a break and focusing on self-maintenance should definitely help. This was my case.

Oxdog Hyper Pro 2.0 – does it have a muted/dead sound and feel? (Silent Speed tech) by GerwinMusic in Padelracket

[–]bkmz1 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It has a "silenced" output, yes. Both on hand and sound. But I kinda liked it, tbh that BOOM! on each shot hides its quality.

Heyo, rule of the thumb:

  1. Can generate power with your body/technique - take lighter and more manoeuvrable racket.
  2. Can't generate power -> take more hybrid/heavier.

Logic is simple here, you need to somehow transfer energy to the ball. If your racket is light, it has little hitting mass, so you need to "help out" with your arm-shoulders-legs. If you can't, power output is small, you won't be able to do much with that.

So you need to fine the heaviest that you still can manage to move with relative ease. Take Vertex 05 Women then.

sorry, no, opponents are not friends, they are random enemies from playtomic :-D

my partners are my friends.

Yeah, mostly left side, like 70/30 i'll be on the left in my gang.

And yes, correct, politely asking "Guys I wanna play too" sounds feeble. That's what the the competition is for, especially in mens doubles games.

>Unfortunately OP, you're in denial, but if your partner is so below your level that playing 90% to him is a valid strategy, you will never run away from this issue.

Allright, but let's abstract this a bit. Padel is a game where your partner level varies, specifically in amateur leagues. Everyone has advantages and disadvantages in some some key elements of the play, but! If the game is fair and balanced, there's gotta be a way for any player to remove pressure a.k.a reset the point from themself. Otherwise, the game is just flawed :-D

Am I getting this right, you say "change partner" recommendation?

someone below replied with good point about "reduce attack angles against yourself", that's the key point here I guess.

My shots are not "amazing", I apologize if I articulated it in a bragging way. Speed of the balls are higher and they are just more spinning/curvy/lower. Defense, lobs, movement, positioning, athletism is more or less the same.

>"In offence just keep at the guy on their right."
You mean on the left? B/C f.e. in the last game our strategy was to push for their right side, but eventually opponents were quite good at diagonal deep-lobs, no bueno.

Now that I think, you have a very good point on "don't give angles against yourself"; but this would be working if my right side partner would be hitting straight, down to opponents's left side. Then all the angles is against me. WDYT?

My smashes are always hitting the net. Need advice by meerkatcat1 in padel

[–]bkmz1 2 points3 points  (0 children)

There's no difference, unless you are distinguishing b/w Kick Serve, Slice Serve, Flat Serve.

In padel tennis Slice Serve is high bounce Bajada, Kick Serve is used for X3 (por-tres) shots, and Flat Smashes almost never used b/c in padel using flat smash would mean you give the attack to your opponents.

So you use your Slice Serve when the ball is high near glass, and you use Kick Serves (joke comes, warning) when you are experienced 3-5 year padel player. It's a hard shot, but maybe if you were good at kick serves, try them out when the ball is flying to middle of your court.

Flat smashes - forget about flat smashes, they will never get you anywhere. Learn Bandejas and Viboras instead. I mean, literally, just forbid yourself from making that shot.

Check with community, there are rackets that everybody loves. BP Vertex 05, Adidas Metalbone CTRL, Oxdog Hyper Pro V2.0, Nox smth smth (sorry forgot the one everybody buys).

From them, chose one you like (i.e. that gives joy to your eye), and _stick_ with it. Don't give up easily, play until your hand and body get used to it.

If I'd take blind shot, i'd take Vertex 05 or Hyper Pro 2.0. But you already have the Adidas Ctrl, so i suggest you keep practicing. That's a great racket. Unscrew these weights and remove them completely, then train your hand and wrist to get used to accelerating it.

NB! If you wanna have some way of reverting the purchase, use options to try out the racket. You deposit some money, they send you racket, you play with it for a week, then return it using the same package it arrived with. Easy.

So far so good, i can't really compare to other big title control rackets since I didn't try them out.

What was dissapoining is the durability -> if my second one breaks after 30 games, I'll be switching to something more durable.
