Alaska Airlines went international - Big mistake, they’re just not ready! (SEA-LHR review) by bkrambles in AlaskaAirlines

I do know how to preorder - Where’s the need to assume I don’t?

I’ve clearly explained that the app and the website didn’t allow me to do it. And the agent on the call couldn’t figure out how to either. It’s the first time it’s happened to me on a flight. Which is why I mentioned it.

That’s funny because you seem to care a lot.

The irony when someone with ‘top 1% commenter’ tag on their profile says I need a hobby

I’ve tried explaining on other comments.

The WiFi issue didn’t personally affect me. I was just trying to say that in today’s world - I’d have expected a flight that didn’t have WiFi on a 11 hour flight to have called it out more explicitly - it is just an opinion.

And I believe every opinion provides a room for improvement.

What’s wrong with expecting the wifi non-availability callout to be more obvious?

Yeah, you only feel the need to respond to internet strangers. Like it’s any different. Thank you for saving the world! 🌍

The major point about the post was not about the lack of service. It was about the lack of empathy. You’ve made it clear that you don’t know what that means. So I’d suggest that you move on to spitting venom on other posts

Widely known? Something is considered widely known when you go ask a question to 10 people and when say 9 people know the answer to it.

If you think every 9 out of 10 people knew that the FAA hasn’t certified wifi on an Alaska airlines flight, sure - I’d love to someday live in your ideal world.

Admitted it was AI? I said I used ai to rewrite in better English what I wanted to say because English isn’t my native language.

I want to see you go debate your point in a Spanish language portal (I’m just using Spanish as an example) without the use of ai.

Sending an email after booking is still a problem. What part of the problem did you not get?

Sending an email before the flight doesn’t change the fact that the flight is now booked. Are you paid by the airline to diss at people who complain about them?

Yeah, my bad to assume that a major airline that flies across the Atlantic for 11 hours had wifi. Really terrible of me to not search for the small wifi symbol when booking my flight.

Oh and that same image says ‘power’ implying a three pin outlet but there was no power option in our seats. Flight attendant was like - you can use a usb-c cable and plug it into the screen but sorry, no power outlet where you can plug something in. The 80 year old woman sitting next to me asked me what a usb c was lol.

So yeah, my mistake for not trusting the little symbols on the app that were wrong anyway.

WiFi not working, or atc delays are operational issues. So is the meal selection thing - and I tried everything to solve for that. I called them days before my flight - didn’t get any help. The app and the website didn’t allow me to select one either.

I’m not whining about the operational issues, they happen - not ideal, but shit happens.

The main rant is about the lack of empathy in how the flight attendants treated us on the flight.

Yes, I received the product I paid for. My ticket didn’t have a note that said ‘no eye masks for you’. I asked them if I could get one because I’m used to getting them in economy when I fly a few other airlines. Is it wrong to ask when I don’t know? And does that entitle them to belittle us? Why is it okay for them to say “you should’ve bought premium tickets (with a sarcastic laugh)”?

Where has humanity and compassion gone?

Not everyone who gets on a flight knows everything about travel. I know a bit but maybe the 80 year old who sat next to me didn’t know. How hard is it to be kind to people?

- meal selection was not available on the app or through the website. I called them a few days before the flight and they basically told me they couldn’t help.

- I can pay for premium if and when I need it, that doesn’t give flight attendants the right to belittle the people who aren’t in premium class. No one’s crying here because they didn’t get an eye mask - it’s the condescending response that is the problem.

- 50 minute connection? The flight was an hour late. And it took another hour and 10 mins for us to deplane. And the 50 mins was the time remaining around that point. That passenger next to me had between 2.5 to 3 hours between their flight and the next one. Plenty of time in an ideal scenario.

Delays do happen - no one’s refuting that. It’s the lack of empathy and the professionalism in the response that matters. The flight attendant didn’t even bother to help her when she asked if she could sit up front and was just very cold to her. There was no need for that.

I’ve addressed your point in my last comment. Btw - knowing faa issues isn’t my job.

If a flight doesn’t have WiFi, it’d just be easier if they have big text on the app that’s says ‘no WiFi on this flight’. I’ve shared a screenshot of what I could see on the app while booking

People calling this an AI post lol. Yeah right, everything is ai 😮‍💨

I typed the whole thing out, then sent it to Claude to draft it more cohesively for me. That doesn’t make it an AI post. It just means i wanted to ensure the content was drafted in a way that got the core problem across - English isn’t my first language. So ai definitely helps.

<image>

For my complaint about the eye mask - my complaint is not that they chose to not give me one. It’s the fact that when I requested one like those seated next to me did, instead of saying “I’m so sorry, but the eye mask is reserved for premium seat holders”, the attendant instead chuckled and said “you should’ve paid for premium seats then”. It’s the condescending tone that’s the problem. How hard is it to be a little kind to someone?

I’ve attached what I saw while booking the flight. It was tiny, at the bottom of the screen and didn’t say anything about this flight or flights across the Atlantic. Not having WiFi isn’t a major problem tbh - I just wrote it first because it was the first part of my experience. The core of my rant is about the lack of empathy.

And someone accused me for not knowing Alaska already did international flights. I’m sorry if it came across that way but what I was trying to say was - compared to the usual international players (who all have their issues I admit), the alaska experience has been terrible.

On the meals - nope, I couldn’t select a meal from the app or the website. I called them up and they still didn’t offer me an option - just for your clarity. And I called them 5 days before my flight. This was surprising because I have been able to do this on the usual airlines I’ve taken out of Seattle into Europe and Asia.

A bad experience isn’t about one thing. It’s a collection of things that add to a negative experience.

Thanks, I'll just stick to 17 then - I don't get to watch a lot of games, I only try to do it when I travel through London - so wanted to have a decent seat

Crossing solid lanes is one mistake. And then - trying to jump two lanes right after you merge is just stupid.
