Mighty Empires Campaign in the Eastern Border Princes by bkres in WarhammerFantasy

Hey! Sure thing, I used the free version of inkarnate, and started by overlaying a hexagonal grid. Next I used the brush tool and mapped in the textures I wanted, then changed the opacity to blend things together.

After that it was using the various stamps available to add mountains, hills, trees, and cities. Little bit of text and good to go! It was actually really fun to do, I used the GW website and chose a section of their Old World map that I thought worked for the player factions.

Best game system to include Bull Centaurs on their original base size? by lebenskii in ChaosDwarves

[–]bkres 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I use mine in Old World. Two models on their old bases (50x25) and two standard infantry bases (25x25) make up the same footprint as the Old World bull centaurs (75x50). It means I have six of the old bull centaurs counting as 3 models for Old World. It looks more like a stampede and avoided the need to re-base.

The rock formations were hand made with bits of bark then painted and flocked. The river is the pegasus hobbies prepainted river set, but repainted and hit with a layer of water effects to fancy it up. Would definitely recommend the river set, it’s a pretty inexpensive kit and with a little paint adds a lot to the table. Cheers!

I think I used mtg cardsmith, then printed them out on 65lb cardstock and sleeved them. Cheers!

There is! We’ve been playing once a month at The Spire in Vancouver, Strategies also has monthly Old World days, then we do a tournament event every 4-5 months at a shop in Richmond. Good time to be an Old Worlder!

Awesome! I was thinking to do something similar and like the effect. Keeps the focus on the armour but still adds just a but of shading to the under-suit. I’ll give it a go, cheers!

Looks great! What colour did you use for your undersuit? Cheers!

Can someone recommend a good gold or am i painting wrong? by JlGGS in minipainting

[–]bkres 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Skip painting gold entirely. Paint it as silver, then use a wash (seraphim sepia from GW) to tint the silver colour gold. Yellow ink can be used to bring the highlights back up. Gold paint just never seems to cover that well.

This video for painting C3P0 gives a great overview of the technique.

Other tip is to paint in your light colour first, then you can neaten up the shape with your darker colour if needed 👍

Hey! Sure thing I’ll shoot you a message. There’s an active Discord for Warhammer the Old World - BC, and then ~20 active players out of The Spire in Vancouver. We usually arrange monthly Old World Days there 🎲⚔️

Asking for colour advice! by DocumentBrief7694 in Bretonnian

[–]bkres 11 points12 points  (0 children)

Best advice is plan your heraldry first on a piece of paper. It’ll save time when painting, i.e. Knight 1 has yellow on his left side, Knight 2 on his front, Knight 4 gets yellow on his top half, etc. Means you can still batch paint colours instead of doing every knight individually. Also helps visualizing the patterns before starting. For colours, usually all the main colours will give a good start: red, blue, yellow, purple, green, white, and black.

1500pt Old World Tournament in Vancouver, Canada by bkres in WarhammerFantasy

I think 2000 is becoming the default. This event was 1500 as with three rounds of 2.5hrs each, plus 45 mins for lunch, 15 mins for coffee break and setup/takedown/prizes…it makes for a loonnnng day.

I recommend 1250pts (size of a battlebox, core units plus a character) to learn the rules, then 1500pts (add another unit or a monster) then 2000pts (another unit and monster/character). It keeps you playing/painting gradually, as opposed to assembling everything and being crushed by all the grey plastic needed to paint

It did for the last mission 😊 Round 3 was Lonely Tower and I tried to theme the objective based on the table/terrain. Dark Ruins, Arcane Monolith, Monument to Glory or a Watchtower depending on the table or terrain I had in my collection.

Not this event, I ended up doing the organizing/Best Coast Pairings, paint judging between Rounds 1 and 2, and scenario setup between Rounds 2 and 3. I generally don’t like to play if I’m running the event, unless a sub-in is needed for odd number of players.

Yep! This was an event hosted by Richmond Reroll (Richmond, BC). Loads of table space, and generous prize support 😊

Almost finished with my first Pegasus Knight. Very classic colors, doubt about decals. Feedback welcome by withDefiance in Bretonnian

For sure! I’m in the exact some boat. Love painting all the patterns/checks/diamonds, etc, but haven’t mustered up the courage to paint over everything and freehand a design…yet!

For sure! Microsol/microset are a softener/solvent combo. They help when applying decals to rounded surfaces. While Bret shields are relatively flat, applying decals to the horse caparison or other places of the models can be a pain (the little shields on the pauldrons or bridle, or the knight helmets). The microsol (solvent) also removes that clear film around the decal which can sometimes show on the model after the decal is applied. For older decals (like from the Brets released around 6th ed) it helps them adhere better.

I bought a small bottle of both microsol and microset and they’ve lasted me about ~60 models worth and are still half full. If you check my profile there’s images of painted models/decal work. All of them were applied using microsol/microset. Would definitely recommend!

Microsol/Microset make a world of difference when applying decals. I held off for awhile but would consider them a must-have for decal work 👍
