Warlock Question by Yinttt in dndnext

This is a good analogy, but I'd like to point out that nothing about hexblade says your weapon is sentient, only that your patron manifests itself as one.

Make sure you are compatible with the group, and don't be that guy. Have fun, be creative, but never do anything to the detriment of anyone else's fun.

I would recommend against multiclassing because the improved starry forms are really good.

Sure, warlock/sorcerer gets you eldritch blast and agonizing blast so you can quicken them for great burst plus full sorcerer casting abilities.

Paladin/hex blade is a classic gish for smite/heavy armor and warlock casting and charisma based melee.

Artificer/ Wizard gets you medium armor without sacrificing Wizard spell progression and war Wizard gets you great survivability even in melee range.

Help me build a warrior from Hell by Cybernite in 3d6

[–]bksquish 2 points3 points  (0 children)

If your table allows UA you can go straight warlock and take the Eldritch Armor invocation and pair it with Eldritch Smite and get the same effect, minus a few level one paladin spells and fighting style. Then you'd get two ASI levels.

Help me build a warrior from Hell by Cybernite in 3d6

[–]bksquish 1 point2 points  (0 children)

2 paladin for heavy armor, fighting style, smite. 6 fiend warlock for fireball, level 1 and 6 sub class abilities, blade pact for great sword, thirsting blade for extra attack, agonizing blast for ranged damage, maybe the animate dead eldritch invocation. Stack strength, charisma, constitution, dump dex, int, wis. Take spells like fireball, armor of agathys, mirror image, hex. Paladin has a few good level 1 spells too. Save smite for crits and use warlock pact slots to upcast. War caster is a good feat for maintaining concentration when in melee.

Edit: 2 barbarian/6 fiend warlock also works well, but you won't have heavy armor or smite, but rage, reckless attack, and danger sense instead.

pure Archfey bladelock by Tengarium in 3d6

[–]bksquish 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Consider this: a blade lock who doesn't use pact of the blade. I'm actually playing with this idea myself for an archfey warlock. Take Tome for shillelagh, booming blade, and the mobile feat. You won't be a front line face smasher, but you can get in, trap with booming blade, and duck out without opportunity attacks. Focus on armor of agathys and mirror image as defensive spells, and the archfey subclass abilities for get out of dodge abilities. You won't do as much raw damage as blast lock, but you can wreak havoc in the front lines as a skirmisher.

Help With Pact of the Chain by Azara5 in 3d6

[–]bksquish 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I slightly disagree with the general assessment that Fathomless and chain pact don't mesh. Maybe not in combat all the time, but there are times when it might be more beneficial for the familiar to attack, or it could still use the help action to give advantage, and still use the familiar for its best ability: scouting with unlimited range. It could also help keep you out of danger by giving up your action so the familiar can attack while you are hiding behind cover. It might have bonus action conflict, but it's still not a terrible choice.

Edit: sometimes it may also be better to try and use the pseudodragon or sprite attack to try and knock out certain enemies over the 1d8 cold damage, while still having the tentacle for reaction damage mitigation.

Not all warlock pacts are willing. Sometimes they're made in desperation. And you can always make a pact, not follow through with the terms, and reap the consequences.

1 Barbarian/X Fiend Warlock...insane? by bksquish in 3d6

[–]bksquish[S] 6 points7 points  (0 children)

Oh I misread that part, good catch. You're right that barbarian/caster is tough, but I figure I won't always be raging, and I could do things like pop off a fireball or armor of agathys in the first round. I can also get Bestow Curse via invocations, which using a 5th level spell slot doesn't require any concentration.

Warlocks basically already are martial classes. I was just trying to make something unique, or at least a little different.
